...Let me first say, no matter if Patch 1.7 is ultimately judged a flop or a fan's-choice of the year, it is the one patch that has generated some of the FUNNIEST, MOST ENTERTAINING, LAUGH-AT-WORK-TILL-YOU-CRY-FROM-HOLDING-IN-THE-GIGGLES posts and feedback ever. That alone has made this patch worth the trip.
I read another thread where AV players are discussing some ideas to defeat HAVs, because they admit they spent almost every match last night huddled for shelter in buildings together--with hordes of zipping-fast HAVs circling them for 20 minutes!
I personally did three Skirmish matches where I was able to WALK (like a blind hobo) clear across the maps without a single sniper or red dot throwing something at me (which as we know is UNHEARD of in Dust 514---usually you take 5 unguarded steps alone in the open, and the bullets wiz). The one moment a red dot jumped in front me ready to proto me for my carelessness.... he immediately was smooshed by one of his own HAV's, doing 80 clicks per hour and running from who-knows-what, and he didn't even look back to see what he'd done and didn't even notice ME in the middle of the road un-attacked.
Umm, but yes, the Friendly Fire will need to be perfected in the coming weeks. The "punishment for damage to friendly equipment/vehicles" is not really needed. Often you'll have to fire rounds on the skin of friendly equipment to kill the red dot who is attacking your friend or trying to hack the equipment! I doesn't make sense for me to "hold my fire--I might nick my friend's LAV and get a demerit notice".
One of us should start a Feedback thread suggesting some sort of "amnesty" mechanism for damage done to friendly equipment: the Blue who did the damage gets no negative effect at all to his standing. friendly fire on a blue vehicle or installation damages shield, but has immensely slow damage on its armour, thus reducing FF equipment damage nearly completely (well, NEARLY). the Blue who lost his vehicle to friendly fire gets no loss in inventory, so he can immediately RDV it back onto the field.
The posts here are correct. Penalizing for damage done to blue equipment/rides is nearly as improper as rewarding points for destroying them would be.
