Its only been out for 12 hours and I'm already reporting problems? What's wrong with me, right?
No, hear me out. I realize the lag problems and rendering problems that I'm having tonight are due to the early settling in a patch this large needs. I'm sure things will smooth out and go back to their substandard level soon enough. But I foresee problems with 1.7 that should be addressed now, rather than later when CCP has thoroughly p*ssed everyone off like they usually do. CCP doesn't listen to us before they make changes, and they ignore us afterwards, but here is my attempt to help them; help me. There is an apparent lack of project management when it comes to building DUST 514. Probably the best example that can some it all up is the Amarr Sentinel Dropsuit Bonus. But lets get into what we can do about what we have.
Tanks My CEO told me to build a HAV. He told me what to build. It was a Soma with all Militia Modules. No SP needed, only 77k ISK. It was the best tank I've ever rode in in DUST 514, period. Even better than The legend345's tank I stole from him the other week. It's cheaper than a dropsuit, and its unbeatbable. The only AV that can bring it down is an LAV with REs strapped to the hood, and that's if it can catch me without killing itself by crashing into a wall or something.
I'm sure when things settle tanks will go back to normal, but right now everyone is using them. I'm seeing 10 HAVs in every match, which is actually making for some cool action to watch and witness. But tanks never needed any help. They needed to fixed, not changed. They needed their hit detection and rendering to be fixed. These 2 things are still not fixed, it was just covered up with making tanks so OP that core mechanical malfunctions can simply be ignored. Also, there are still not any form of vehicle locks.
Falling ash/obsidian CCP, you're rendering and framerate is lousy at best already. Why would you implement another feature that the engine has to perform? You need to stop adding more content until the current content is fixed and working properly. PC gamemode is pretty much unplayable, and public/FW is borderline. Adding more rendering needs is foolish. I don't remember anyone asking for swirling lava and ash in the atmosphere. I see this being a constant problem for as long as it is in the game.
Scouts/Heavies You have not made these viable yet. You are adding racial variants of these dropsuit frames very shorty, but yet they still have not been addressed or fixed. If 50% of the available dropsuit frames aren't usable, why have them in the game in the first place? I understand that things get fixed and implemented as soon as it able to be so. Whatever gets fixed by the time the next patch deadline is up goes in. Perhaps Heavies and Scouts need to be bumped on the priority list up a few notches.
Factional Warfare Friendly Fire I assume this will be tweaked very soon. It is not fair to punish players over what random teammates do. If a player lays out Proximity Explosives and a blueberry LAV/HAV drives over it with passengers, you are instantly kicked out of the game. Friendly Fire works in PC, because all 16 players are on the exact same page, and usally from the same corp even. Factional is a public gamemode that anybody can join. You will never get 16 random people to coordinate in a game. Especially due to things like lack of personal microphones, broken communication systems, language barriers, etc. Warbarge Strikes on friendlies is common in PC, it will only amplify in FW because of the lack of teamwork mentality. FW isn't capable of being like PC, it is less organized. PC matches are scheduled, FW is nothing more than a public match, just with a different payout system.
You were told Friendly Fire was a bad idea before you implemented it. You attempted to put policing measures in but that can never deter player error. The griefers will eventually subside, but player error won't. As stated in the paragraph above, getting 16 people; mixed in squads and solo to be in perfect communication together isn't feasible.
I hope you take some of these thoughts and ideas and try to work with them. We as a community have more experience in FPS gaming than you. We often inform you of what and why an idea will be bad for the game, and you insist upon it. The DUST 514 vision is taking shape, but the end result may lead to an empty playerbase. Better organization and project management needs to be implemented into CCP's workload procedure. It appears that right now, you are trying to do everything at once and getting nothing done and having to back track all at the same time. More focus is needed. Laser Focus(TM). |
