CCP, I appreciate the effort, but... You're doing it wrong.
You obviously don't understand how to properly balance a tactical FPS.
Problem #1: Current Tier System The current tier system is harmful to game balance. Linear tiers and PvP do not mix well.
Problem #2: No "Real" Roles CCP, I think it's safe to say that you don't focus on actual roles. You'll add new content, sure, but you never define a role for it. Occasionally, you've released items analogous to real-life weaponry, but you never really think about what it's supposed to do, only how it's supposed to act. Grenades in Dust 514 obviously act like grenades in real life, but it doesn't perform the same role at all. Don't assume a weapon will fit a role because it's "similar" to something that does.
Problem #3: Lack of PvE In such a heavily competitive game, like EVE, PvE acts as an important stepping stone for new players to learn basic combat skills without being completely and totally overrun by veterans. Dust 514 completely lacks this vital step. The problem speaks for itself, as I'm sure you're well aware.
Problem #4: No Capacitor Why is there no capacitor for vehicles? That. Doesn't. Make. Any. Sense. Seriously, CCP. You mentioned capacitor multiple times in the older dev blogs, but now you don't even acknowledge that the concept exists. There's absolutely no reason why capacitor shouldn't be implemented. I'm disappointed, CCP.
Problem #5: No Consistency Dust 514 is terribly inconsistent. Not just in mechanics, but also naming and lore.
Problem #6: No Variety It's boring and repetitive as hell. 'Nuff said.
Problem #7: No Identity In EVE, everything feels important, as if it were a piece of me. All of my ships are incredibly personal. My character is shaped and displayed as I want. I can do things that most other players in EVE don't want to, and vice versa. I feel like I have an identity in EVE. There's no identity in Dust 514. Every fitting feels generic. Hell, every item feels generic. And my character isn't even a character. HE'S JUST A NAME, RACE AND SKILLSET.
Problem #8: No Industry Highly competitive MMOs? They don't work very well unless you have something worth fighting over.
Problem #9: Poor Progress Progress is slow as hell, and when they finally DO manage to do something, it's almost always poorly implemented or executed, or should've been very easy to implement. Case in point? The new Racial ARs. Combat Rifle doesn't have any mechanical differences that set it apart from the G-AR, just some minor statistical differences and different visuals. Rail Rifle is pretty much the same, apart from the charge-up time before firing (which should be a very simple change considering that the mechanic for it is already in place and has been added to many weapons already).
Okay, I lied. It's not 99 problems, it's 9 problems. Big whoop, wanna fight about it? |
