Ok. 1.7 is out. People are lollygagging with their new weapons and speedy tanks, cool. Problem is, WE'RE STILL LAGGING!
CCP, I emplore you, optimize your game. There's a serious serious issue with this game in that it's incredibly fun, has high stakes, and yet the game will sometimes simply kick you in the nuts because its framerate drops to that level of stutteriness where every action in-game is a quarter to half second behind you in real life.
PC especially has been plagued by poor performance and we all knew that already, but it's really not limited to just there. If you go into the Gallente Research Facility or Orbital Artillery while things are going on (vehicles driving around, uplinks being spammed, explosions, bullets, etc etc.) the game just poops out on you. You just kind of have to deal with it the entire time. It really hinders the overall experience when the game is not running smoothly.
Please, going forward, you guys really need to heavily improving the running performance of this game. Dropsuits, maps, weapons, all that stuff aside; make the game run at a constant 30 FPS (60 FPS would be MAGICAL) or at least give us the option to turn off all unnecessary effects to make it that way. I would rather be playing with no textures and at 30+ FPS than a pretty game that runs like a slideshow.
Let me play you the song of my people!

Just to get overly technical frame rate and lag are actually different.
While the frame rate drops when a lag hits the most common reaction is for the game to stop momentarily. Solving one, striving for 60 FPS for instance, will not even address the problems with lag that DUST has. Most of them are actually network or network related architecture problems. A network architecture that is designed to support an elaborate screen saver that dials back time to 10% of wall clock and then lags as well is not the choice others have used to support multi-player FPS.
Also, what battle type, which map, server, UTC date/time and basic information makes this a rant. Of good quality no doubt but it is useless as information to the Devs.
Just saying. |

I too was under the impression, that the framerate had gone down this update. I also thought i spotted some new/better textures. If the average framerate is indeed lower than before, it might also be an explonation for the complaints about problems with (perceived) slower movement and/or imprecise aiming.

There are options to lower texture and effect quality... Dust is the only consolegame i can remember with such a thing. Yesterday i started to test them out. Didn't had much time to play since then, though, so i don't know yet if or how much it helps.

Yes. This is the actual Dust 514 core problem. Framerate and controls. The rest is just fluff IMO, since there will always be broken mechanics, OP weapons and stuff.
Its quite simple: If Dust runs at >30 fps constantly I, and many others, will play it more.

Regardless, resolution is a poor measuring stick - it all depends on what's being rendered. For example, 1080p pac man - not so impressive. |

Most who have fought in PC battles over the past year can attest to framerates being low. At some points I have been down to single figure framerates. Certainly not playable and really needs addressing by CCP.
A CCP dev said they would investigate once 1.7 rolls out - Well were well into 1.7 now - Any word from CCP? |

Yeah..... even starhawk lied :O!
Even having the ability to turn the "DUST" affect off would be awesome... you can't tell me that doesnt cause me massive frame rate issues when we have 32 people in a tight city fighting.. let alone adding ANYTHING to PC FPS and latency issues for the sake of a cheap visual. |

This is honestly the #1 reason I'm so distraught with this game. It's simply impossible to ever have a consistently smooth running match because regardless if it's PC or a pub the framerate drop is GOING to happen.
CCP please please fix the ****** framerates in this game. We've been dealing with this crap for so damn long and it's just been driving more and more people away from DUST. Even reviewers have said this game runs choppy. What is going on in your "testing" that you guys can't blatantly see this game runs so poorly?

+1. And just as important as a high framerate is a stable framerate. 30 FPS stable would take away virtually all the frustration and we prolly can't expect more than this on the PS3.

I've got a stable 25 with occasional spikes of lag and increased performance not runing PC 24/7 helps, an occasional reinstall helps as does lowering graphics, but PC seems to **** your stuff up, now kb/m input lag needs to gtfo, equipment spam is also a serious issue too.

I put everything on low and even run an SSD and I still get really bad performance, especially in PC and large sockets. Reinstalling doesnt help.
I think the problem is the game is exceeding memory usage for some reason despite the DEVs' attempts at staying within their "memory budget". The PS3 only has 256 MB of VRAM and 256 MB of system RAM which is really not much. Some sort of bottleneck is occurring in either memory or processing power which is only exacerbated once people start to spam equipment and explosions.
KB/M input lag is an entirely different issue that seems to get worse in conjunction with the framerate. Accuracy goes out the window in PC with a KB/M due to the lag. DS3 users don't suffer as much because if aim assist working through the lag. Their input is probably delayed as well but they don't suffer as much because of aim assist acting as a buffer.
