CCP has destroyed yet another good sniping location. Thanks for the under the radar but it's kind of a big deal sniper nerf. I guess snipers weren't getting killed enough by infantry. It's bad enough the new map packs have failed to include any decent sniper locations, but getting rid of old reliable ones for no reason sucks.
I'm sure that if there was some sort of reason it would be in the god !@#$ patch notes. |

Again. The greyish black obelisk with a slanted top and antenna. Looks a bit like a shark fin. You can no longer stand on at all. These towers made for great sniping / overwatch spots on many maps. I would sincerely like these spots to be kept in the game. |

Somebody at CCP put some effort into this. I applaud them for giving the antenna substance so you can't walk through it anymore. That's not my complaint.
Not being able to stand on top of the tower at all is my complaint. You just went negative on sniping spots for a lot of maps. After having the mountains removed from many maps after things were retextured awhile back and now this too.
How big of a micro transaction do I need to make in order to get a response to this? |

It's also something known as "overwatch" for planetary conquest. Calling out enemy locations, troop movements, vehicles, and objectives that are about to be hacked by the enemy. Calling out to have the person responsible for remote explosives to be ready to blow them, is a very real thing. |

Here's a full detailed list of the "Sniper Nerfs" from this latest patch, most of which are not in the patch notes.
1. Can't snipe from the obelisks (aka shark fins) anymore. They were changed so you slide right off the slanted angle now. This was my main Thale's sniping spot for PC. In general this means more snipers will be in less useful more predictable places for public matches.
sidenote: You can still get up there to snipe but you're hanging off the bottom edge of it where they failed to retexture with that no stick coating. You're completely exposed and can't even move if you're being shot at.
2. AV grenades were downgraded, combined with drop ship hit points being upgraded. It now takes 4 standard, 3 advanced, or 3 prototype AV grenades to kill a militia drop ship. Where as before it would only take 2. Meaning it's way easier to harass and successfully land next to a sniper on a tower who is using AV as a defense.
3.Everyone got hit by this one, but the shield extender -7% recharge delay. Meaning if I do get shot I have to hide even longer for health to regenerate. Slowing the game down.
4.The health gauge information display was shifted to the right instead of directly below your crosshair. It's really awkward having to shift your eyes down and to the right as opposed to just down and back up.
5. Little or no indication if you successfully hit someone with your sniper rifle, there's no sound upon hit, and often the hitmarker won't appear. Meaning you don't know if you need to line up a second shot if they're close to cover, because you don't know if they're half way dead.. or not. |

So hide in the hills with a thale's and think I'm awesome doing the head glitch trick and rage every time someone actually hits me? No I don't think so. This is not a technical support thread this is a feedback QQ thread, Devs please move this so more people can give their input without confusion of what the problem is.
I don't use Thale's on hills, I don't use uplinks, and I don't waste time with the so called head glitch trick. You're confusing me with somebody else. You can't even pretend at knowing what constitutes a good sniper, I would just stop talking at this point. |

To a part time sniper I'm sure there are "quite a few of new spots". Asking a dedicated sniper to "work harder on finding those better spots" I consider to be nothing short of trolling. That's filthy and low. Your advice on finding new sniper locations is something you would give a novice. What's left of the Dust community I would bet are either long time players or noobs. Don't confuse the two.
And since you always have something to say, where in the dev blogs can i find the changes you mentioned? Is it timestamped somewhere in there? |

except when it comes to the alternate victory of exhausting clones
except when it comes to your only legitimate vantage point for over watch being 400m or further away.
200m and under is easy mode, since they added the fog of war the only real way I get kills is from scanned out targets, and since they're close to my team, I would certainly say killing them serves a strategic purpose. |

Kaalakiota is great for counter sniping and taking down stationary targets with less than a certain amount of hitpoints.
That's the only serious use I've found for it though, other than giving away your position because you need to hit 3 out of 3. You'll miss 1 because they've been shot twice and are surely moving. You'll need to reload, and then they've made it to cover.
There are still "plenty of spots to choose from". However, most of them are not as good. Dropship locations can be a little more obvious but at least you'll know if someone is coming, and you have cover from ground forces. Nerfing sniper spots, nerfs the role.
If they got rid of one or two more spots, would that still be okay? I say no. |

- Damage Mods (Funneling snipers into a new suit to maintain with some loss current damage percentages)
The time to kill for snipers does not need to be adjusted. Having to land 3 shots with a charged sniper rifle on anything other than a Sentinel or Commando just isn't acceptable. Balancing the sniper rifles a couple times a year to match the evolution of the game and the appropriate time to kill would solve all the issues. Should you choose to acknowledge any. Instead it's one incomprehensible stealth nerf after another.
The new suit I was referring to is the
*Caldari Commando*
+10% damage to rail weapons +another light weapon to defend yourself +high shielding good against counter snipers -larger signature radius -larger suit easier to spot / hit / slow movement -no armor regen -no grenades for AV defense -maxiumum nanohives carried is 1
(being physically larger kills this for me)
- AV Grendades (You can't even fend off a militia dropship with 2 prototype packed AV grenades.)
I no longer recognize that these serve any purpose. These at one point provided good defense against getting road killed by enemy drop ships, or preventing a poor pilot from landing right next to you. Currently they provide poor defense, however better than nothing. Come 1.8 nothing would be better actually. (requires less cpu / pg)

I somehow doubt good players were complaining about that.
It's no different than being somewhere in the red line.
Especially with the increased popularity of the attack drop ship. You were still vulnerable to being counter sniped as well. You certainly couldn't be effective if someone was keeping you pinned down up there.

I'm not sure what you mean, explain if you will.
In 1.7 I was using the Caldari Logi for sniping primarily, and a Minmitar Assault for my more aggressive build. No one has ever told me what to do when it comes to sniping or skill point usage. This is my first time ever using a heavy suit for sniping, and it's not for the health bonuses or extra large hit box I assure you. I'm not sure where you're getting your ideas from.

That will never happen. There will always be roofs, mountains, and structures to snipe on. Large open world environments is DUST 514.
If a sniper doesn't want to be bothered by infantry they shouldn't have to be. If you're so determined to kill one go through the normal channels like everybody else.

I guess that means I go to extreme lengths to "get posted". Almost every.. single.. match.. Let me tell you.. It's so difficult being so extreme. My wife and kids left me. I subsist on a steady diet of cockroaches.. and I would end my life should the sniper rifle get nerfed any further.
Situational awareness is certainly still there. You better believe I'm listening for drop ships and constantly scanning the horizon for the main thing that's going to get me killed. (enemy snipers) The sniper rifle isn't nearly as effective if you're not set up somewhere hard for infantry to access. You'll get knifed in the back by a cloaked scout faster than you can say. (shotgun)

They weren't removed, you can still get up there if you know how and get lucky. It's quite possibly a large waste of time for a reasonably bad spot. You'll get counter sniped in a heartbeat and are forced to jump down. I do not recall anyone asking to have those spots removed. And it makes no sense that they were honestly. The incline isn't so steep that you shouldn't be able to walk up it. (I've done it before and walked up other similar surfaces) It's just annoying.
If you got some links to people complaining about the obelisk (shark fin) link them. The only real problem was the sometimes hollow antenna array on top..

I have double your win percentage.. triple your kills.. less than half your deaths.
You farm war points because you're likely good at nothing else. 2.2 million.
It looks like you screw around every single game, and make a lot of bad decisions.
What do you even do?
Full-time armor-repair? No. Any logi with a pulse has a 2.0 k/d. That can't be it.
Suicide hacking uplink spam scout? No. You'd have a higher win/loss ratio.
Sniping? No. you'd have a higher k/d, less wp.
I have no idea what you're doing, but it's not helping you win.. get kills.. or stay alive..
Your opinions are terrible and unfounded in knowing what it takes to do well in DUST 514.
The name "Djinn ConJecture" would have been far more fitting for you.

That's okay though. You're right you do have to be creative. I've been creative for over a year now. The new maps were intentionally created to be bad for snipers, so finding great spots was a fun challenge. Just doesn't change the fact that they removed a very good spot from the game.
