I'm loving 1.7 but lets be real here...there's plenty of terrible players who don't use their brains to overcome the odds.
No tutorial can give a mercenary war wisdom and what would appear to be common sense to thwart the plans of the enemy.
Extension of Academy is not going to teach the player how to work together with other mercs on the same team
It's also not going to give a mercenary a steel heart for those moments when defeat seems inevitable.
It's going to take the player to build these things. Not Academy and not the inclusion of more detailed tutorials.
My father used to say that old saying, "You either born a Marine or you're made one"
This is true in Dust 514. You are either built to take on the dangers of New Eden or you are made.
Not everybody can understand that though and think hand holding is the answer.

That's such a common generalization when someone is told to toughen up. It is not arrogant. Those who have played with me know I am a humble person. Nothing is arrogant about having the mindset to push forward and to learn from your mistakes. Crying about it and knee jerk reactions are understandable but it doesn't get you to the place where you need to be.
So what I'm discussing here is about having the proper mindset. When I got my butt whooped the first few weeks, I was pretty upset about it. We had no academy then. I was thrown to the wolves. But something in me wouldn't allow me to just give up or to continuously gripe about it. In order to change, I had to change my mind and think forward. I had to search for what it takes to win. So that is what I am offering. I am saying it begins with you. The help is there. The bright future is there. You have to go out there and get it. Don't we say that to folks IRL when it comes to changing their lives and having a better environment for themselves and family?
There's nothing wrong, arrogant or dumb about having a strong mind and will. There's nothing wrong, arrogant or dumb about someone telling you to toughen up either. Don't take the words personally. Evaluate. Adapt and overcome. This is no different than playing football and boot camp. You either focus your will to become one of em or you're cut like the rest of em. |

Well that logic is why people quit so much, this isn't real life, people simply just uninstall dust.
Anyway by your logic, people wouldn't learn from extra time spent in the academy? So people don't have the ability to learn you are saying? People don't have initiative?
Completely disagree, your logic works in real life, not in a game.

You simply do not understand. It's a mindset we put to all things. The mindset to push forward. To learn from our mistakes. To gather information and knowledge that will help us succeed.
No a person wouldn't learn from extra time spent in the academy.
Let's examine that further. What exactly is Academy teaching the new player? Is it teaching the new player that you should drop down nanohives for that heavy so he can keep protecting an objective? Is it teaching the new player that suppressive fire could save the man getting hit next to you, clone? Is it teaching players that when your clone reserves are at 70 with MCC shields failed and the other team has full MCC bars plus 120 clones left to keep on going and that the tides can change? You see my point?
It's a mindset that can be applied to anything. Wisdom can be applied to all things. You cannot simply dismiss wisdom for the simple fact its "just a video game" or that this isn't real life.

LOL I don't think you do understand or read what I said. How can the Academy teach players what we veteran players deem as common sense? How can the Academy teach people how to work together or concentrate fire on a proto? To do what is best for the team and not for your own personal KDR?
And like you said, people without the initiative will never good. And where does that initiative comes from? The mindset of wanting to succeed. The ability to move forward.
Like I said, that same mindset carried me and others through Dust when we first started WITHOUT the aid of Academy. Not saying Academy is bad. But for what the community wants for blueberries to do to become better starts with the player themselves. No matter what.

To consider. It's good information that may place a spark in them and hopefully spreads to others as we as a community grows.

No I have read everything you said and you even agreed with me.
People with initiative will get better and those without won't, so for the benefit of those with initiative the academy is good but for those without they'd quit before they even finish with a longer time spent there and we wouldn't have to deal with them in matches as much.
As for you being very up front, I am also the same, reality is too much for some to take and they get offended lol.
