Ok, so apparently there is this new HUD display of "blood" or something every time you are hit.
For one, it looks like someone spilled fruit-punch cool-aid on your visor.
Secondly, it does not add immersion. It does not add an appropriate visual effect. The only thing it does is clutter the screen.
This added display is something that makes me want to stop playing. Again, one person saying they're going to leave isn't a threat when you have a constant drain of players, but I want whoever thought it was a "good" or "interesting" idea to know that it wasn't.
It is being recieved poorly. It detracts from the game experience, which is the opposite of what any graphical and HUD changes should be.

Seriously, this is not CoD. That's the reason I'm here. This is supposed to be a Sci-fi MMOFPS. That isn't my body being shot, it is armor being chipped away. I know I play Gallente, so my designs are supposed to look organic, but that doesn't mean that my armor plates are actually alive.

i think it was a good and interesting idea. Its pretty cool, well cooler than a little red bar. i think thats how the suit would actually tell someone that they are being hit from a direction. it would just show the damage on the hud. |

Its not blood, it looks like a digital splatter pattern. Its a damage indicator pointing to where incoming damage is coming from. I like it better than the last damage indicator; last one took too much space in the center of the screen.
GHOSTLY ANNIHILATOR wrote:And nasty , clones are clones not humans! That makes no sense at all. We're clones of humans, therefore we are humans. Clones are whatever species that they're cloned from. Are you really suggesting that clones don't have blood? (but really, the damage indicator is not blood)

I found it a bit weird the first few games but have since gotten used to it. I do find it a bit messy though.

I find the damage indicator helpful, as I don't always have time to look at my health bar. It is far better than what I initially believed you were indicating as to the visual effect. I am glad that it isn't just a red haze that covers the screen like in Quake Arena or Duke Nukem (can't remember which).

It's to let you know your shields are down, we have a HUD indication for when you take shield damage, all they did was add a way for you to know that you're taking armor damage, if it's a bit distracting, than that's a good thing, it's suppose to draw your attention to let you know that you are dying. One of the complaints you'll frequently hear from new players is that they had no clue they were being shot half the time when they die, I remember when I first stated playing this was one of the big issues many had with the game until CCP added a more visible hit marker.
I personally like it, it draws enough of my attention to let me know I'm taking a lot of damage, without distracting me from what I'm doing, it could be a little less saturated and a little transparent though, I find the shade of red unusual and the thickness of the blood can be a little too hard to see past at times. |

Makes sense. At least they should make it golden not reddish, so it doesn't look like we are flesh-tanking. |

The blood graphic is HORRIBLE. It makes a MESS of the screen and makes it hard to see what's going on. Change it!
That said, the good thing is it always shows the direction you took damage from (+1)! So the concept is great the graphic is sh*t.

Flint, Kagehoshi, and Pvt Numnutz posts are opinions that counter each other, but ALL have the "RIGHT SOUTION" merged in them:
The (blood-splatter) attempt was noticed by players around Patch 1.5, and we figured it was linked in conjunction with the new Aim Assist component to "indicate" when you were being the victim of a head-shot, or to "accentuate" those theoretical last seconds of animation, when tech-protection had been fully depleted and rounds were now puncturing your clone body under the suit. It was also interesting to notice that you could here a muffled voice responding in pain just before the kill/wounded screen comes up. (If you have a GOOD sound system, you can study and debate whether they voice-matched the whimper to the gender of your clone---we never really concluded it was clear enough to be certain).
I'm not sure if the voice is still retained in Patch 1.7, but the solution I see hidden in your three combined posts is:
It does make sense that an organic entity of "our resemblance" would use fluids to keep important things distributed through its body, so punctured clone body releasing fluid (tainted red just so us human players can make the right association), is acceptable.
It SHOULDN'T be used just for drama everytime your dropsuit is damaged, because it makes sense that dropsuits ARE not bleeders, they are the tech that prevents bleeding, so we should only see a chance of "blood" at 0-sheild+0-armour (or perhaps at fatal headshots, like we earlier presumed).
The graphics for that blood has changed since the early patch, and just isn't enjoyable--it's not convincing some of us, repelling some of us, so there's great reason to please improve it.
Keep some sort of "blood" animation, because it's a less-boring way of hitting it home that you're being terminated. "We blew up your DS but you jumped out, but we hunted you into a corner, drilled through your suit, and we finally got YOU!" EVE Online (used to?) have a "frozen corpse" animation after loss of a capsuleer, which I think of as "a bit gruesome", so Dust should have it's own exclusive animation too!
Thanks for posting this thread, Cass! Good observation on a tiny graphic change that has a surprising psychological effect. |

It looks like a computerized warning system part of the dropsuit's HUD display, not blood.

What ever it is, it is very distracting and if you are facing away from what is shooting you it will get bigger and bigger as you turn around and by that time you can barely see to shoot. I strongly dislike this animation.

Thanks for the comprehensive overview. And I haven't heard my little scout grunt like a burly man in a few months- that one was silly but glad they changed it quickly. I like that it happened but during that time it was bad.
