Trust me, some ADV suits become better than proto if you fit them right. However, the minmatar Assault isn't one of them I'm afraid :/ It's a rare case where the proto version of that suit is 100x better simply because you can fit so much more. Then again, passive skills usually make any ADV suit good, you just need to use it right.
If I were you I'd get minmatar logi to ADV if you like minmatar. I've been doing super well with it and it has the perfect amount of slots for almost any kind of role.
Having more versatility (i.e. more types of suits and weapons) is much better than just running the same proto suit over and over again. I have skills in shotguns, mass drivers, Forge guns, Heavy suits, HMGs, Scrambler Rifles, and soon here I will have the combat rifle maxed.
I have 26 million, and only have a few regrets in terms of unwise skill point spending (commando suits, plasma cannon, Assault Rifles, uplinks past level 2, etc). Another thing is that I don't have passives like hacking, armor, or shield upgrades past level 4. That amount of skill points they cost to upgrade compared to the benefit of the upgrade is not worthwhile. Same thing with weapon proficiency past level 3 for most weapons (scrambler and combat rifles are the only exception).
If you still can't decide, spend your points towards a prototype suit. You'll be happy later. Weapons are EASY to skill into compared to suits. It costs 600k to get to lvl 5 operation, and another 300 if you want proficiency 3 (9% extra damage). Best part is each step of the way takes only a short while to save up skill points for, and isn't just you sitting there waiting for 1 million sp. You won't ever have another chance like this so use that large chunk of skill points to your advantage. The Min logi is a good suit but I don't think it's well suited to a CR fit. This is because you have no sidearm and the CR has a small amount of damage in the clip (off the top of my head it's something like 1,900 versus 2,200 for AR and RR). I must have thousands of kills with the last 10 bullets of my AR clip. If I was using a CR, I'd have been empty and in trouble.
Although the Min assault is generally a weaker suit than the logi, I think it is quite well suited to using the CR. The main problems with it are the PG/CPU limitations, which are mitigated by using the CR. That said, if the OP is planning to use the CR a lot, the importance of getting it to at least prof 3 can't be overstated. In their shoes I'd probably proto the assault suit and use the AR for now (assuming they have high proficiency), and switch to CR when I've saved SP for some proficiency with it. |

Im sorry, but i completely disagree. The Assault mk.0 is a bad suit, you only need to look at the PC arena to work that out. I know serverall people who have skilled into the suit and don't use it. Also basing ideas off a gun that has come out today with little to no testing is pretty assumptious, even if it has smaller reqs. If anything it would mean we can run 4 bits of equipment again without gimping the logi tank. Mk.0 is too squishy. It doesnt have enough CPU/PG or another low slot to compensate. Theres no lower sig profile for a suit thats designed for CQC, hit & run tactics. It simply needs to be overhauled. Worse proto suit in the game at the moment. I don't disagree, I did say it's worse than the logi after all. If I was advising someone who didn't care about factions I'd suggest Amarr assault plus ScR or logi (any will do) plus AR/RR. But for a Min loyalist slayer who wants to use the CR, which is what the OP seems to be, I think the assault is a decent option due to the sidearm, especially as he already has level 3 Min assault.
I know people don't use the Min assault much in PC at the moment. But that's mostly because you can't fit much on it, which is mitigated by the low demands of the CR.
I also wonder if the specialist rifles might make Min assault more PC viable - if you've not seen these yet, it's basically advanced fitting to fit a proto weapon. An mk.0 assault with its highs filled with complex modules, its lows armour or speed tanked, a proto rifle, and core locus is a decent suit. That wasn't possible until the LP store. |
