A lot of "good" dropship pilots don't have this issue because they fly ADS and hug the flight ceiling most of the game, so they're not anywhere near RDVs being called in. Thankfully they changed RDVs to come in pretty low now, but it's still like roulette. Half the time they won't even render until after you're on fire

It's basically entirely random. Some people just have worse luck, wrong place wrong time. All it takes is flying within shooting distance of the ground to make you subject to this. Plenty of the time the sound will glitch, or they won't render until a few seconds after their cloak goes down.
And as a rule of thumb, the more you fly, the more likely you are to run into this. It's gotten better over the months, but it's far from gone.

Dropships are not for the faint of heart.
I burned through a bit over 100 Million in just a couple weeks right after Uprising deployed, trying to make a PC worthy logi ship. Took the respec and now I'm only a part time pilot, because CCP doesn't know how to balance vehicles and AV. Since then I've probably flown another 100 Million worth.
It keeps you poor.

Im lucky im quite good with money, im only about 10m short from what i started with....
I'm just stubborn and like to fly. After Uprising I was trying to make my ship work as quickly as possible to be viable for PC, so I just constantly deployed with all the cash I had gotten from closed beta, in the hopes that maybe it was just my tactics, or I had the wrong fit. Nope, they're just ******* garbage.
