Greatings,
i'm a EVE player and got myself a PS3 for Dust last week.
What should i say?I started with 5-2 or so in my first game and i was happy about beeing abel to dive deeper into EvE. Then the reality of Pro vs Casual kicked in. How? just read...
game 1-10 learning the gameplay and testing mouse/keybord vs aimbot from the dualschock game 10-30 starting to understand that the guys that look like starshiptroopers are proto gear and they mow me down if i dont see them first and come from behind.
so then.. THE GRIND
i started with the gun, because i was thinking it will let me kill faster and so i gain more exp. i found it that i can buy about 5 "T2" guns per match before i end up without making money
i was thinking: ok, time to save up money and skill suits, so i can tank longer and IF i use my good gea, then i will have a better change about winning the encounter.
so now i got my basic advanced gear. i can drop ammo and spawners, i got my armor repair midslot and my damage mod lows. i'm still testing the guns and think that i would be abel to now have a nice time, after i died to so many people and shouldnt be the last one in the line anymore...THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING...
The reality is that there are A LOT of 6 people premades that come with 2xlogi support and the heavys, so they end up wiping the floor with my whole team.
I dont know what to say.. is there any way that i dont autolose? PvE is of the list for the hardcore faktion warfare. is there a chance that we can get a Q for people that got max 2 people in there squat, so the 6ers are forced to play other sixers?
i like eve.. but i wonder how long i can play dust without getting so frustrated that i quit. and if you think about it.. i like eve.. what about new players that dont care about eve?
please work on this.. i died my way up to a point where i can now kill solo proto guys, but i dont think that a random noob would be willing to take this much of a punishment, while people can burn millions just by trying to fight against those premades.
for the sake of dust.. please give the casual player a way to farm money/SP without beeing forced to be the donkey for some 6ers |

as with eve -cores are key for being affective at a price. -look for hours at all the skill bonuses and item stats to have an idea where you want to go.
-killing is not the best way to make isk. -unlock enhanced armour plates.
I came to PS3 and dust the same way, its hard but when time goes on its a rewarding game.

This game used to reward different styles of gameplay. However now its just slap on as many plates as you can ad slot in some dmg mods.
Forget about speed, I used to 'speed tank' as a scout but now that's useless. The most viable tactic is just to stack as many hp as possible and add damage mods. ** Yawnnn...........** |

There is a method to this game that is not evident, and really it comes from observing.
1) Join a Corp (not an NPC) 2) Get in a Squad (some skilled players would be willing to help you out), This game is squad based, not solo, so you need to work with someone else to win, you can not do it alone. 3) Develop your Core Skills (like in eve), its a long grind but youll be thankful after you have done it. 4) Pick a suit and pair it with a weapon 5) incrementally improve your suit to tweak where you need more buffer.
MUST READ (All Suits): The Logi Code. You depend on it.

You don't have muxh sp so I recomend this Start a new character Go to dropsuit upgrades get shields and armor plates to lvl 3 Its cheap and imo the most effective beginer skills

Just like EVE when it first came out, CCP can't get the core mechanics right and the game has no identity. Let's hope it doesn't take 10 years for Dust to be fun and balanced.
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

God, I really need a keyboard to reply to this. You are very right. This is coming from an experienced player with 17 million SP. They (CCP) implemented the Academy mode to shield noobs from the threats out there, but it's a joke. Just yesterday, I played game upon game against 6-member proto squads. It is so unfair that my team mates were getting stomped on as badly as they were. One player told me it was only his THIRD night of playing. They need some kind of balance.
I assume they (CCP) won't fix it because, if you want to be as good as the enemy, buy our crappy, disposable Aurum items! Sigh. They have to make money, and I understand the struggle they must be experiencing. They risk monetary gain with some of the updates they do, or could be risking it with the potential updates people want to see.
For now, use the Squad Finder in-game to get a 6-member squad. Maybe even use an active scanner to make sure they aren't gonna bombard you, so you know when to stay out of hot zones. You're not gonna win that way, but when you're outmatched, defeat is inevitable.
If you want to boost your ISK and SP gain, drop drop uplinks in good spots, heal team mates while they're under fire (+30 pts for each heal pulse & +45 pts for being a guardian to them - POINT BONUSES apply while around SQUAD MATES, if you didn't know), place nanohives (namely repair/triage 'hives). That works better with pro gear, obviously, but that's the source of the most points. I got ~4200 war points yesterday, with little help, by spamming all of that, and whilst only having killed 1 or 2 people.
If you, or anyone else, need anymore tips, feel free to ask. Best of luck. :) |

Best advice you'll hear: Start squadding up. Look in Local Chat, use squad finder etc. Playing solo is much more difficult and costly, especially for a newer player. Getting in with a decent group, you'll learn the game faster, get better, die less and so on...

i'm ok on this one... i just have a problem with the 6ers with 2 logis and heavys, who walk over the map and kill anything.
dont get me wrong.. i dont mind them doing this in FW or when they fight for there corp in null or what ever.. for me its about that i just want to play a shooter from time to time and i'm bored of onesided games.
i understand that hardcore people want the barges and anything.. but guys.. i have a GF and a life that i have to deal with. i also enjoy eve and i dont understand why CCP punishes this with those 6ers who go rampage easymode by mowing down anyone who dosnt want to join a big corp with a headset.
i dont want CCP to destroy your game.. i just want CCP to give casual players a way to enjoy the game.
i see two very simpel solutions: a)remove 6ers from normal Q and just let them fight FW (normal Q just for duo play, so you dont have a kickass zerg killen anyone) b)give us some PvE, so people can grind SP and money there and then also go proto
i have 100 to 2XX stats by now and anytime i end up against "what the french" i wonder if i should fight and end up 2-10 or just sit in the MCC and try to snipe, while the others stand next to me and go afk over the time, because we are 70 clones behind.
sorry, but this is just boring and it happents way to much

Best way to make ISK: Use the free starter fits, gives you by far the best return of investment
Most effective way to farm WP and SP: Play domination, most of the SP accumulation from battles is passive anyway so the longer the battles the more SP you get.
Best way to make it to the top: Power playing, play a lot every day, grind grind grind.
Now then if you want to get a decent KDR that's completely different matter, but then KDR does't give you ISK nor SP. KDR is just to give you boner and something to brag about. KDR doesn't win you matches either. The other day I was in a game with the top player of the game (you know who you are) and observed how (s)he played and well I'm not impressed. After (s)he had died a few times (s)he ran to the edge of the map avoiding red dots like plaque. So when (s)he got hammered down by a better team he chose to ran, not a very nice team player. I would rather take a newbie that wouldn't give up on my team than the top notch that is interested only in protecting his/her own "tough image" with their high and mighty KDR BS. |

Would you believe me that this is thy most friendly version of Dust we have ever had? The low TTK makes the difference between proto and militia the smallest yet.
What I recommend to new people I bring into the game in this
1) Play ambush and use uplinks (militia or otherwise), in fact start off more on support or "logi" because its thy least skill intensive role in the game, and the strongest suit in the entire end game as well (this will net you warpoints)
2) Work on passives and one weapon and one equipment, test out the miltia items before you go heavy into a route, watch videos on playstyles as well.
3) Squad up, even with randoms, it makes a world of difference

A great way to start is to buy all the militia gear x1 to figure out what you like best. If you have a prefered medium frame or light frame it is great to run around and drop uplinks in any match of any type, they spawn people facing the direction you are when you drop them so place them well and people will spawn on them. Put your sp into a weapon, grenades and all the core skills that are not suit dependant, once done it is time to specialize. "Premades" as you call them are great targets to shoot, they deal more dps but will make you more isk in the end of match screen and it also costs them often 10x what it costs you to die once in a Starter + Militia Uplink + Advanced weapon suit. Proficiencies are like a free damage mod don't hesitate about the High SP requirement it makes it a lot easier to kill.
Happy hunting
PS. We are still waiting and wanting PVE too.

you have one choice in this game, go flavor of the week, its maddening but there you go. Teircide needs to happen, rifles need to be rebalanced(tho that should wait for the turbo controller no recoil fix), and ARs need to be brought back to 110% sheild dmg, before this game is even close to not maddening.
tho in the mid term I would like to see insta battles get a meta level limit to advanced gear at the most, I mean I hate to suggest it but the community is too small to split off a separate set of battles, and too many new players are being chased away by enemies that do 40% more damage and have 2-4x the tank.
15% skills+15ish%between std and pro +10% complex dmg mod=40% damage increase that doesn't even take into account sharpshooter. |

ok first off run a logi suit put a stick hives and link ( or just hives and links) keep your suits cheap, stay behind your team and just revive resupply and respawn. when you do see the enemy make sure you are behind your team and take a couple pot shots for assists... if you see your team dying, run.
you will make lots of WP on your links and hives, and once you realize you cant be Rambo you will not die as often.
this may not be your style of play (or desired style) but you ill make sp quick, die less and therefore make more isk.
the key is to be support but also be a coward.
it doesn't matter if you win the match, because there is no meaning in winning a pub. what matters is how many wp you get.
invest in an LAV. once you drop your equipment (or before) go hack turrets (tankers will hate you, that's a good thing) and depots and cru's. if you see a red berry hacking a blue one, let them... when they run off, rehack it, or if you feel confident kill them then rehack it.
and that's how you pad your wallet and sp and win this broken game.
never again will i spend money on this broken game....

I'd just like to say to you, my lovely lovely newbie (The good kind), join the Learning Coalition! We have plenty of students and instructors you can talk to, just join the channel and play with us. :)
If you don't know how to join a channel (I'm sure you do, but just in case): -Press Select on your DS3 or "T" on your keyboard -Scroll through the current channels (Default is Local, Corp, and Squad) -At the bottom should be a small box, when you highlight that, it says "Create/Join" -Press "X" on DS3 or I think "Enter" on keyboard -Should be a black box to put text in, again press "X" or "Enter" with the box highlighted. -Type in "Learning Coalition" (Without quotation marks) -Profit.
We have tons of people online EVERY day to help you out. Hell, if one of the other instructors aren't online, come to me. I run Bojo's School of The Trades, a school specializing in Advanced Training, Dropship Piloting, and Infantry/Vehicle Specilization, so I could probably teach you a thing or two.
While you're at it, I suggest you join "Immortal Guides". It's the other half of the Coalition. They teach basic infantry tactics, and the CEO is a really cool guy that's written A LOT of guides. If you want to see a couple of them, look up "Fox Guide" or something similar in the search function of the forums.
