I read this post: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=125692&find=unread
I agree with the OP, and apparently something snapped in me.
This is a shout-out to any DUST devs that may be reading: I made this suggestion bach in April...
You guys need to figure out a way to keep the rump of a community you still have engaged with your development.
Now, more than ever, you need to keep a nearly-daily blog going about what you're doing with this game.
Make it someone's work assignment to spend 30 or even 60 minutes each day to post something , if only a paragraph or a picture showing some new creation or idea you want to add into the game. It shouldn't be too difficult.
I've heard the criticism: maybe the devs should spend their time fixing or finishing the game. I'd like that to happen, too, but the last 8 months should teach us better.
Creating some sort of continuous communication with the playerbase and public will profit the game even more than the small amount of time spent instead on development by helping to create any more interest and excitement in its ongoing development.
Seriously guys: it's been almost a year since the open beta/de facto launch, and you have laughably little to show for it. Anything that might dispel the idea that you're out to collect your salaries as long as you can hoodwink CCP executives into thinking that this game might not be a huge albatross would very much help you now as much as ever, if only you can be bothered to employ the minimal diligence necessary.
Monthly updates were a good step, but not enough. I fully expect to be underwhelmed tomorrow if I can even be bothered to log in, since I, like many, am almost beyond caring.
Do as I suggest, hold your own feet to the fire, and you'll reap rewards. Don't, and you'll persist in languishing until this game dies a sad death |

Like everyone else, I like devblogs. But what your proposing is all a bit intense. The fact that updates are every month (pretty much) is enough to keep 99% of players coming back to see it.
Maybe don't ask the devs, but the CPM?

Well I see you linked my post and I understand your frustrations. Mine was more on par with the "visible" things that new players are meant to see, in this case, a giant NOVEMBER login screen when it is very clearly December - the same applies today and I think there has been in general a big silence throughout the month of november from the community team (saberwing, mintchip and cmdr wang - Logibro has still been very active) and this is a bit frustrating as their role is to engage with the community at large.
If you visit www.dust514.com ,vthey are still talking about 1.6 and "winter carnage", which now finished 10 days ago. The november events were up already as of 31/10... correct me if I'm wrong but the winter carnage rewards haven't even been paid out for everyone, and they are also supposed to post the response to the interview with CCP flying scotsman, which was done on the 15th November... but still no visibility on this.
Anyway I don't want this to degenerate into a "bash ccp" thread, but for me, aside from CCP logibro, most of them have just disappeared. Maybe I misunderstood their "role" - I understand the forums are a hostile place and that they also have to update facebook and twitter pages, but I feel the tempo of communication should be slightly higher than what it is now... |

I can write you a couple sentences about brushing my teeth this morning. Why can't we expect to get a couple sentences for 100 man-hours of work? Or a picture? Or a joke? Or a story?
How on earth is that intense?
Yes, they update every month, but in case you've failed to notice, the game looks almost entirely the same now as it did at the beginning of the yeas, and the way that the devs have taken at least one step back for every two steps forward means that it's hardly become a better game in the meantime.
If the CPM, were developing the game, I'd be happy to ask them; it's the devs who need to give enough **** about their game that they're willing to make it clear they give any fucks about their game, because 99% of playera s now means less than 4000 at a time on a good day, and they certainly aren't getting many new people to stick around. |

The devs communicate on many channels. Some are less formal so they feel more able to talk without a bunch of overly entitled players holding them accountable to random comments. Anything posted to the official web site has more weight to it so those messages tend to be more crafted.
If you want more frequent information then look to these other channels but understand that things are likely to change.

I do think we're talking about the same thing.
My working life has been spent in hospitals. If a nurse delivers the correct medication at the right time, shows warmth and compassion to the the patient, and does everything else well but misses the last 1% of effort by leaving a needle in the bed, then despite everything else, that one thing will form the patient's impression, and the nurse ends up looking negligent or stupid or both.
This is the lesson CCP would do well to take: it's one thing to actually care, and it's quite another to look like you care.
Justicar, you're observed the problem. I am proposing a solution which will also help rebuild some of the mountains of enthusiasm that the devs have heroically squandered all year.
I don't mean to bash CCP; let's call it tough love. Just like our unit director would kick our asses at work about appearances, someone needs to make this clear to the devs.
I want to be excited for this game again, and if I didn't care, I wouldn't bring it up again. |

Yes.
Not every person- especially new or potential players which this game desperately needs to court- will go nearly as far as looking for the devs' twitter feeds to get a perspective on the development of the game. This should be concerted, public, and official. |

Official takes the informality out of them and suddenly the conversation will stop or be severely limited by management.

Once upun a time, the devs though that each update needed to be so well-crafted and planned to take months for each, but in the end they thought better and now we have monthly updates.
They might do well to apply the same notion to the game's publicity. Sheer volume isn't the issue; method of delivery is.
CCP relies on player enthusiasm for the financial viability of this game more than others because of the microtransaction business model. They shouldn't be expecting players to go looking for several channels to get information and cultivate enthusiasm. They should be delivering their message directly to players' eyeballs continuously.
It isn't a matter of convenience, but a matter of good business practice if nothing else. |

OP have you considered that maybe you were not looking in the right place for your updates? Right here on the forums is a place to see what they have been working on, what communications they have been fielding, and what is to come in the next update before they even make a Dev Blog about it. Please make sure to use the search feature, or your eyes, which ever comes to you first next time.
Thank you, Veka Kari

Wow... what? I wasn't aware that there was any two-way conversation going on to begin with at http://dust514.com/news/blog/
A blog is only as formal or infomal as the blogger makes it, and readers will adjust their expextations to what they've seen.
If they spend a few days posting concept art for the Caldari heavy, then we'll see the forum conversation move from more whining to more drooling, and the devs will improve their PR far more than any formal writeup. |

A list tracking bugs. I'm so thrilled seeing that I need to go change my pants. [/sarcasm]
I did see that when they started doing it, and that isn't what I'm talking about. I'm proposing to overhaul this game's publicity on a larger scale.
Please make sure to use your eyes and read the thread next time.
