I guess most of you already know, but for the ones of you who are new to Dust 514 or even MMOs: Never play on patch day. And Tuesday will be one hell of a patch day. So don't expect to actually be able to play normally on that day.
1.7 is the biggest patch we had so far and it is VERY LIKELY that the game will be broken for a week or so with stuff not correctly working. I could think about lots of stuff that won't work like not getting LP correctly or standing being buggy and so on and so on. After all the patch isn't only introducing big changes to FW but also brings new content and totally changes the way vehicles work. So it is to be expected that basically nothing will really work like it should on patch day. So don't leave the game because nothing works on tuesday. CCP will probably hotfix most of this in a matter of days. Totally normal service probably won't return until a week later or so. CCP is able to deploy hotfixes and they often do this without you noticing when you don't read all the dev posts. So you won't have to wait until 1.8 before major problems introduced by the patch are fixed.
So do us all and CCP a favor: Don't flame about CCP being bad developers and not properly testing stuff and we sure as hell don't need more "The game is dying!"-threads just because a patchday isn't smooth. They do test it. Sony tests it. But a small test environment is totally different from thousands of players playing at the same time. It is just not possible to test every situation some of you may encounter. If you encounter a bug just head to the tech-forum (there will probably a dedicated thread about bugs in 1.7) or submit a ticket on the support page. And remember: Bugfixing takes some time. So don't get upset if the bug you encountered isn't fixed immediately. This is just the way every patch day in every game works. So please be civil about it. |

A real quick tip for everyone, before downloading the patch, delete DUST from your hard drive, then do a fresh install of the whole thing.
It takes longer sure, but you're much less likely to have any problems, I've found anyways.

I'll Add to this that if you can esily reproduce the bug, ask one of the youtubers, like me, to squad up and film it. This seems to greatly help the devs. I am sure Gaz, Bamm and Moody will also be filming bugs too.

I know with Twitch you can go back into the stream and create highlights, which would make it that much easier for devs, since they wouldn't have to sit there fiddling with the times to see what you were talking about, they could just go straight to the bug. Granted, it's a bit hard to go through the stream yourself to find said bug after streaming for a while, but it's certainly an option.

Nowadays with EVE I uses the Repair exe, but obviously you can't put one of those into a console game. Doing a clean-install is the next best thing.

This reminds me that I wanted to reinstall Dust anyways. 1.7 seems like the best time to do this. |

This! Also when encountering a bug, try and reproduce it, so that when you send in a ticket or post on the bugs thread, the devs will have that much more info to use in patching/hotfixing the bug. The more we help the devs, the quicker we will have a solid game. While the devs write and design the game, we as a community have an important part in its evolution. |

And... yup. This is the first post in months that has inspired me to crawl out of my hole, actually log in and even POST. I won't be playing patch day, being that I work long hours, but I look forward to this and the next patch with a happy heart. It's good to see at least a few dedicated, logical, NON crybaby whiners on this forum.
I happily add my humble +1.

Better be smooth - taken the day off to get comfy with my Combat Rifle.
They are adding 2 weapons and removing vehicles.
I can see issues with the players getting SP refunds and issues connecting and playing FW. For those people do the above but I dont see this as some massive patch people are making it out to be.
I just hope there isnt massive downtime most of the day. CCP, get the big stuff right and deal with the niggles as they come to light. |

Taking a day off for this on patch day is dangerous. It might as well be possible that the match making isn't doing what it's supposed to do again. This can always happen when they fiddle with the game modes I think. Not saying that it will happen, but there is still a possibility. |

2,4GB in size kinda disagree with you. And while the content which is important for you may look small you have to think about how much new or changed code the patch will introduce. And that is a lot. First of all the already mentioned FW changes, respecs, vehicle changes, bug fixing. This is a lot. And coding can be weird. Fixing one thing may break another. Adding one thing can influence another which is totally unrelated.
Think about working on the motor of your car and suddenly the trunk pops open.

2.4 GB can be a whole lot of textures that have nothing to do with gameplay as well
As I said I expect the game to work unless something screws with connectivity. The respecs and such shouldnt and can be handled by ticket. Vehicles have been scaled back but are basically a few less assets with changed attributes.
I think EVE orbitals are already in - they will now just be only from EVE in FW.
I dont think any matchmaking has changed either. Definitely delivery of payouts in FW so that and market issues could arise.
I just dont want people giving CCP a pass as oh its a huge patch so expect alot to be broken. To me that sets the bar way too low when you really look at what we are getting.
Yes, with CCP things can go wrong and delays happen but I think they can pull this off with a few hiccups. - Things like racial symmetry and proper balance then to introduce new assets? Much less confidence there. |

That is a great analogy is you have sloppy code.
Good code doesn't suffer from your analogy because it is properly managed and has gone through rigorous rounds of QA.
Too bad CCP doesn't do any QA.
And they are introducing lava moods, weapons, and stuff. There is your 2.4 GB. There could also be updates to existing textures.
Game code itself may look long on paper, but that, by no means, translates to large file sizes

That is why it is better to have people who aren't coding the game responsible for QA.
