I guess most of you already know, but for the ones of you who are new to Dust 514 or even MMOs: Never play on patch day. And Tuesday will be one hell of a patch day. So don't expect to actually be able to play normally on that day.
1.7 is the biggest patch we had so far and it is VERY LIKELY that the game will be broken for a week or so with stuff not correctly working. I could think about lots of stuff that won't work like not getting LP correctly or standing being buggy and so on and so on. After all the patch isn't only introducing big changes to FW but also brings new content and totally changes the way vehicles work. So it is to be expected that basically nothing will really work like it should on patch day. So don't leave the game because nothing works on tuesday. CCP will probably hotfix most of this in a matter of days. Totally normal service probably won't return until a week later or so. CCP is able to deploy hotfixes and they often do this without you noticing when you don't read all the dev posts. So you won't have to wait until 1.8 before major problems introduced by the patch are fixed.
So do us all and CCP a favor: Don't flame about CCP being bad developers and not properly testing stuff and we sure as hell don't need more "The game is dying!"-threads just because a patchday isn't smooth. They do test it. Sony tests it. But a small test environment is totally different from thousands of players playing at the same time. It is just not possible to test every situation some of you may encounter. If you encounter a bug just head to the tech-forum (there will probably a dedicated thread about bugs in 1.7) or submit a ticket on the support page. And remember: Bugfixing takes some time. So don't get upset if the bug you encountered isn't fixed immediately. This is just the way every patch day in every game works. So please be civil about it. |

It takes longer sure, but you're much less likely to have any problems, I've found anyways. I'll second this one. Many of my issues with both EVE and Planetside 2 immediately after patches were solved with clean installs. Nowadays with EVE I uses the Repair exe, but obviously you can't put one of those into a console game. Doing a clean-install is the next best thing.
This reminds me that I wanted to reinstall Dust anyways. 1.7 seems like the best time to do this. |

They are adding 2 weapons and removing vehicles.
I can see issues with the players getting SP refunds and issues connecting and playing FW. For those people do the above but I dont see this as some massive patch people are making it out to be.
I just hope there isnt massive downtime most of the day. CCP, get the big stuff right and deal with the niggles as they come to light.
Taking a day off for this on patch day is dangerous. It might as well be possible that the match making isn't doing what it's supposed to do again. This can always happen when they fiddle with the game modes I think. Not saying that it will happen, but there is still a possibility. |

I am not advising it but hopeful that most stuff works.
I dont think this is some massive patch like it is being billed but yes some of the changes could make it screwy.
2,4GB in size kinda disagree with you. And while the content which is important for you may look small you have to think about how much new or changed code the patch will introduce. And that is a lot. First of all the already mentioned FW changes, respecs, vehicle changes, bug fixing. This is a lot. And coding can be weird. Fixing one thing may break another. Adding one thing can influence another which is totally unrelated.
Think about working on the motor of your car and suddenly the trunk pops open.
So by all means: Try to play. I will too. But don't be upset if not everything works like it should. |
