Quote: So it has been over two years since the fateful walking in stations expansion Incarna. I am wondering if it ever came out; who at CCP messed up the whole walking in stations idea that badly?
I think many of us remember back in 2007 the ten ton hammer video of CCP showing us a glimpse of walking in stations, it was gorgeous and we waited anxiously for 4 years to see this come out. What we got was completely different from what was shown to us before. It was not anything like we expected or was advertised, a total let down.
So who made the big decision to scrap the good walking in stations for what we have now? Why did CCP drop development of walking in stations when all they had to do was come out with what everyone was looking forward to...walking around a station. Being able to walk up to your ship and zoom out to see the awesome size comparison.
Do you know there are sci fi games coming out that are in beta right now that allow you to walk up to your ship? After ten years of EVE and two years of incarna, why cant the biggest sci fi game in the world still not let players walk up to their awesome ships? What are you doing wrong CCP?
Concerned customer.
OK, CCP. When are knives finally going to be improved?

If I remember right, CARBON scaled badly. It could reliably handle one avatar interacting with the environment, but start adding more and things rapidly went awry. I gather they've been working along on it, but they did declare (partly to mollify their irate fan base) that they were going to focus on what EvE does best: ships.
So far, I guess they've stuck to it. If they're still working on WIS at all, it's on the back burner. |

but until the RELEASE day they were still promising that all the bars were done and ready, could even find the models on SiSi. In the end they didn't even finish more than just the minmatar Q in time for release. They spent tons of money and time on the cash shop art assets instead of WiS. |

Presumably the work CARBON needed to be what it promised to be has already been done in Vampire 514.
That, at least, is the natural implication to draw from what CCP has said - what the reality will be is another story. Could be the game wont be released until graphics cards are strong enough. I'd lol but it might be true :(
I support SP rollover.

Walking in stations will be great when EVE and DUST players can actually chill in the same space bar together

It's a shame, it would've really opened EVE up to a much larger audience and made them a bit more money. Too bad they did it all wrong.
We might see it come up in a different form in 5-10 years, the integration with Dust will make it awesome unless someone else does it first. |

I think Star Citizen will have it on launch, but as the developer of that game pointed out it barely got started in terms of production. It probably won't be for another year before we see full release of that game. And by then, Eve and Dust might catch up for once.
