Not sure where to ask this, but is every faction for itself or are there 2 alliances, Caldari-Ammar vs Gal-Min? My guy is a minmatar, but I really identify with Caldari ideals. But as a Minny, I can't possibly align myself with an empire that enslaved my ancestors. Started this character as an alt and somehow he became my main. I know it really shouldn't matter, but I like the rpg aspect with FW becoming more formidable. Just making up my backstory. Thanks in advance for any responses and sorry for any misspellings.
Great job, team. Head back to the MCC for debriefing and cocktails.

A mercenary is able to choose who to fight for and why.
I fight for both the Federation and the freedom of my Minmitar allies because I choose to. I have met many Caldari protecting the Federation alongside us, so it is not unusual to see such things. Although, any Minmitar that fights for Amarr is to be considered my enemy. I will kill them.

Hate the Amarr too. Just want to make sure, before I try to join a Caldari corp, that there isn't any chance that I will be fighting for the Amarr.

The alliance between Amarr and Caldari is shaky at best. I wouldn't be surprised if it fell apart some time in the future. You can choose to fight for one and ignore the other- the alliance does not force you to defend the other. It's just one of those "hey, we're friends here. Want to help me out here?" sort of things.

There are plenty of corps out there that dont support a specific faction, but have individuals that do. Within the alliance of top men we have plenty of supporters for all the factions. Should be some fun fighting each other. |

How many FPS games give you that kind of dilemma to wrestle with, huh?
You probably want to be neutral with respect to Caldari: you like their ideals, but disagree with their support for the Amarr, and won't fight for or against them. That means you would be neutral to Gallente as well, to avoid having to fight against Caldari.

strictly speaking in DUST, you can fight for anyone. If I understand the dev blogs, you will gain points for fighting for a faction and lose (a small amount of) points for fighting against someone.
Therefore, to maximize your rewards, you should choose only 2 factions to fight for.
Pick 1: Amarr or Mimatar
Pick 1: Caldari or Gallente
In the lore side of DUST/EVE Amarr and Caldari are allied and Minmatar and Gallente are allied. You are free to mix and match, look at which two factions you associate with more and which two have the unique gear/weapons in the LP store that interest you.
I am leaning Caldari & Minmatar but may change

That's a lot of food for thought:-) Might have to read deeper into the lore for inspiration.

Gallente and Minmatar have been growing apart recently due to a difference in perception over how much racism there is towards Matari expats living in Gallente space. You could latch onto this from a roleplay perspective.
I suspect we'll eventually discover that the fugitive Tibus Heth has been hiding with the Amarr, which will drive a wedge between Caldari and Amarr. That would help you move from neutral to favourable to Caldari.
