Most core skills need to be maxed for the stats above and could be made better with Shield Regulation 5 Caldari Assault Suits 5 (This is only a basic medium suit and you have access to this with a logistics suit because you need the Caldari medium suits skill at lvl 3 to unlock the STD Caldari Logistics suit which gives you access to ADV level basic Medium Caldari frames) The reason the STD AR damage is so high is due to AR Proficiency being maxed but even at lvl 3 it is 40.3 !
This is my favourite fitting .. not because It's OP or anything like that but because it is extremely cost efficient without having to use BPO's
I'm interested to see what fits other players have using STD suits and no BPO's which are as cost effective or more cost effective than this suit
PS The question in the title of this thread is rhetorical so please keep the replies relevant to your STD Suit cost effective loadouts and feedback on this loadout and other peples loadouts and not about the protostomping discussion

Hi.
Yes, the topic title is a bit provocating, lol. But it's fine. I generally think that everyone should feel free to use anything they feel like using, being STD, ADV or PRO, it's a game. I know you think I run proto 24/7, but I just run whatever I'm in the mood for and I don't have any problem with anyone running better gear than me.
I find that ADV suits are the most cost-efficient, but a good STD fitting can be awesome, yes. Unfortunately, this doesn't apply to all classes, as I can't really make a decent Scout fitting which is not Proto.
I generally choose ADV over STD because I use the Tactical AR, which is only available starting from ADV tier. The GLU-5 sucks away a lot of resources and I need an ADV suit to fit it.
I still have to do the matchs about the Rail Rifle, because that's what I'm probably going to use and the PG cost is extremely high even at STD level. I'm not sure if I'll be able to run a Rail Rifle on a STD suit.
That said, ADV gear is my favorite. I rarely run STD when I can run ADV. With my secondary character I run STD all the time, but I will eventually move to ADV when I'm going to have enough SP.
With ADV suits I can make cheap and complete loadouts.

Your title and content have nothing to do with each other. The answer to question GÇ£Why use Proto in public games when you can use STD?GÇ¥ is vastly different than if you had asked GÇ£WhatGÇÖs your cost efficient STD suit?GÇ¥ or GÇ£What is your money making suit?GÇ¥ maybe even GÇ£whatGÇÖs the best possible STD fit you can come up with?GÇ¥

Generally I only run ADV fits, price ~40K. I make money with those, no need to downgrade as far as IGÇÖm concerned. Racial STD suits are very good though, I admit. The difference to ADV is pretty minimal.
The only STD fit I have is a suit named "spare parts". I hate clutter and since I cannot sell my useless items I have fitted them in a suit which I never restock. If I run out of items I replace them with other useless items from my inventory. It's the cheapes suit I have, because I never restock any items. Pure profit.

I could fit a gek and if I used more STD instead of militia and had more core skills I could probably get the plates to enhanced as well the shield extenders but I like a dirt cheap fit.

You mention ISK in your post but when your rich and run proto that is generally not that big of a concern.
