Forgive me if this has been answered somewhere. I've been gone awhile, I just heard about and read the 1.7 vehicle changes, and don't really feel like wading through forums to see if this has been addressed.
The biggest issue I had with dropships were railgun tanks sitting back in their redline, sniping me from halfway across the map... completely out of harms way. Even if I switched to full anti-tank gear, they'd just roll back behind a hill, too far in the red zone to even hit.
Has anything been done that fixes this? If not, I really don't see a reason to come back to piloting. |

Nope, if anything with the changes to turrets (Compressed Railgun Damage at the Heat Gain and Rate of Fire Non-Compressed Rails), the changes to vehicles (Dropship and Tank decrease in eHP with the tradeoff that active resist modules are much more potent but have long cooldowns) and the addition of certain modules (+30% Damage Modifiers) Redline railing in 1.7 is going to be more powerful than it is now.

The rendering issues benefit us in this regard. I have rarely seen tanks railgun snipe anymore, in fact, last time I saw a railgun tank he was on the frontlines blasting at other tanks at close to medium range. Sitting at the redline will be very quiet for the tanker, and lonely too.

Nah, rail tank sniping is always going to be a thing whilst there are lol redline mechanics like there are atm.

Luckily such huge targets as tanks are easy to scout out for orbital strikes. And since they are in the enemy's redzone no chance of friendly fire. ;)

Rails need to be long range, but not artillery. The maps are way too small to allow a 600m weapon, especially one as powerful and accurate as the rail tank.

nothing has been done about them yet. No vehicle should be able to fire from friendly red lines. Though the changes to dropships might be worth coming back to piloting. Caldari dropships are getting awesome shield regens and more HP. All dropships are going to be doubling in max airspeed as well. I'll let you know how it is in 1.7 if you are still interested in flying. |

... but it's not impossible, just unlikely . A good pilot with a fitted afterburner can do the job, even if it takes three - four times of flying into the enemy redline to deal with the perpetrator.

Sure, in a situation where you have an immensely incompetent Tank driver that isn't able to retreat deeper into the redline or activate his own defensive modules or recall the damn thing then an extremely well fit Python with the assault dropship skill maxed might be able to take one out without his dropship exploding.
In the meantime we'll continue to talk about realistic battle situations in which a Redline railer is more or less inaccessible to a pilot.

Don't dropships get an expanded redline while they are in flight I know they used to.

They do. I'm not sure if Flix is a pilot, so he might simply have overlooked that.

They do, but only around the common line. The enemy redline is not altered for airborne vehicles. |

Maybe the speed will be enough to balance it? |
