Public contracts divided by security. High Sec contracts max tier equipment is standard, isk reward to match, Low Sec contracts advanced gear is max tier, higher isk reward, and Null Sec contracts all equipment can be used, the isk reward the highest. Also incentive, extra isk and/or sp for que'ing for multiple sec contracts to not make a problem filling matches, maybe even higher bonus if certain tier contracts have low activity?. What does everyone think about a system like this? I think new players would have a place to compete and enjoy, and most of all learn the game. A just reward for running end game equipment. A lot more competition and less red lining on a balanced field. Less reliance on match making. |

What does everyone think about a system like this? I think new players would have a place to compete and enjoy, and most of all learn the game. A just reward for running end game equipment. A lot more competition and less red lining on a balanced field. Less reliance on match making. The advantages of this system would be a very fair way of setting up your suit. However, I strive to have a slight advantage on the field while running deceptive gear. How does this help my playstyle? OMG he puts proto mods on a less than proto suit? Yes I do, because I can.
Do I run Advanced Equipment or Proto Equipment on meta 1 suits as well? Why yes I do, combating cost, I strive to make my suits Isk efficient. So if I need to lay out Proto Hives or Proto Links I spawn with a Sever suit, wet towel and my Links or Hives. This is not a technique that a n00b can do but it works and I like it. The cost of the proto gear on the suit is far more than any of the other modules on the suit and otherwise I would not even come close to my PG/CPU limits. Do I die quickly like this? Sure but it is a suicide/supply depot fit, requiring one or the other afterwards. The restrictions on meta level gear would certainly restrict my play style and also affect more than just my Logi fits.
I have yet to see anywhere in new eden where we are restricted to a meta level of gear. I also don't thing Dust would be a good place to start this kind of restriction. Eve/Dust are about Isk vs Risk, they are not about equal fights or fair fights either, for instance 2 days ago while piloting a T1 Rifter through factional warfare space I cam across a T1 Kestral that was using offgrid boost as well as a speed fit to kite (I didn't know this at the time) and he clearly had a large advantage. I went down in a ball of fire, went back to a market hub and started fitting a new ship.
How the above battle equates for risk vs isk is that the enemy ship increased his risk (offgrid boost) to increase his isk chances (advantage of double my speed) in the fight. If I would have found his offgrid booster and killed him rather than gone after the target that looked easier (offgrid boosters usually use a T2/T3 ship). My Isk reward from that kill would have been higher because of a higher value ship being removed from the fight, allowing me to then go after the Kestrel with ease.
How does isk vs risk equate in Dust? Not very well. You risk far more throughout the battles by being in Proto gear if you are prone to being a bullet magnet. Yes you can fit more gear and more tank mods as well as more damage mods and higher meta gear easier. Unfortunately there is little in the way of better reward for a player who can go 42-2 in meta 1 gear vs one who goes 42-2 in proto gear. The reward is the same.
The solution to the problem is simple, higher WP for higher meta gear when used in conjunction with WP reward-able activities. For instance if a Logi were repping with a Militia Repair tool, he is putting out less isk than if he is using a Proto repair tool. The reward for using the high meta rep tool should fit with the isk spent not be the same as the BPO level rewards. For weaponry this already seems to be in place, with higher meta of weapons able to do more damage faster. Not so with other tools of the trade we each add to our kits.
Hives. Links, Injectors, and Repair Tools all suffer from this issue and really are often the deciding factor in a battle. The Meta 1 suits can achieve the tank that a Proto suit can so why does it matter if there is no restriction on gear in battles? Where is the benefit to players or CCP in putting something like this in play? I see none for your idea op, on the other hand, appropriate equipment rewards based on Meta level of equipment would benefit those providing life to the entire team.

With this system you can still run your isk efficient suits on a null sec contract, but if you run a 100k suit and die twice, you could still make a small profit, you die alot more in dust than eve. But new and casual players wont be forced to compete against end game equipment users, but not blocked from it either. I understand risk vs reward and the rewards do not match the risk especially in such low ttk times like now. But in the end you still need a fun game, for all players fun>real. I love this game because it reminds me of old ultima online days and losing something with every death, only equiping what you can afford to loose, but red lining or getting red lined 9 out of 10 battles, close fights few and far between are annoying for all experience levels. I too run adv tier equipment with complex modules, but i would gladly que up for high sec low sec and null sec contracts, and just play what im dealt, too many people are getting turned away from this game after 1 or 2 battles.

Very true. I myself have a full advanced assault suit im proud of, may not be much, but if I had the choice I would sleep in the thing in real life xD 7.6 mill sp at this time and even with that, I still get easily frustrated with the matches I usually get into, completely one sided ones where everyone blames the newberries on the team for at best tickling a proto suit in a one on one duel.
In matches like that, far too often do I see on my right side corner "__________ has left battle", and we can easily guess why. Would you work on a lifelong project that only gave back to you Death and Despair, or would you rather work on, lets say, helping Father build that treehouse you so wanted as a kid, with a little tire swing hanging from the branches, a sling in one of the two windows facing the street so you can launch water ballons at trash cans for target practice, and all the while having a blast with your best mates and buds? That's only an example of course, its just for the general idea.

I would enjoy this. I would go HI/Lo and look for newer players to recruit and train. I would even kill anyone using ADV gear in my STD "Raven" Suit.

Right, I would que for all three and probably still run adv/std gear in a null sec contract just for the isk.

I think Eve player contracts to capture X district would be better than this, and also provide a reasonable way to include Eve pilots in Dust.
