Once again a Learning Coalition district has been attacked by a Corp who did not know who we are. I think the problem is that the people who read The War Room donGÇÖt read the Rookie Training Grounds forum, and the people in the Rookie Training Grounds forum donGÇÖt post in The War Room.
It was suggested that we should make a GÇ£Planetary Training Club" (PTC) post in the War Room to let Corps and Alliances involved in Planetary Conquest know who we are, and why we have districts.
The Learning Coalition was setup as an organization to facilitate the training of new players by experienced instructors, often from active PC corps. It is setup around the chat channel: GÇ£Learning CoalitionGÇ¥. While we have Instructors and Mentors from many Corporations, the core of the Learning Coalition is made up of 3 Corporations and a training group. They are Immortal Guides (my Corp), BojoGÇÖs School of the Trades (currently run by Artificer Ghost), R 0 N 1 N (run by Lightning xVx), and the Mango training group (run by Charlotte OGÇÖDell).
The Learning Coalition was given two PC districts to be used for training purposes. Those districts are being administered by Immortal Guides, and BojoGÇÖs School of the Trades. Having districts allows us to setup controlled training environments which we canGÇÖt get elsewhere, since CCP has not added a training ground to the game yet. We use the districts to run classes such as Dropship Flight School, which allows new pilots to learn to fly Dropships without having to deal with people shooting at them. The Learning Coalition also hopes to hold events for the wider DUST community as well.
The Learning Coalition has support from multiple Alliances active in Planetary Conquest. Both Ancient Exiles and Molon Lobe have provided ringers when our districts have been attacked in the past. The point being that we are not tied to any one Alliance. We have held training matches with SVER True Blood and with Deadly Blue Dots. We are also in discussions with other Corporations regarding military support if someone attempts to take our districts. There are many more Corporations who have members in the Learning Coalition.
Ultimately the Learning Coalition will only have districts to use as classrooms for specialized training as long as the Community, specifically those involved in Planetary Conquest, agree that we should have them. The training Corporations which administer the Learning Coalition districts donGÇÖt have the resources to hold them ourselves, so we are completely reliant on the support of other Corporations.
I created this thread to let people involved in Planetary Conquest know what the Learning Coalition is and what we are trying to do. If you have any questions or concerns I will be happy to address them.

We do try to keep people posted on our activities in the Learning Coalition thread in the Rookie Training Ground, but I will likely start posting those details here as well. One of the Learning CoalitionGÇÖs hallmarks has been a complete lack of organization, but as a bureaucrat, both in game and out, I am doing my best to bring just a little order to the chaos without being too restrictive.
The Red vs Blue comment is very apt. We do intend to run something along that line. Unfortunately at this point we donGÇÖt have enough students to fill even one team, much less two, but we are growing rapidly and will get to a point where we can sustain that in a few months. In the mean time, we are open to setting up training battles using players from other Corps, if any small Corps want to experience a Planatary Conquest fight, or large Corps want to use our facilities to train their new recruits.
We held a Dropship Flight School today. It just finished. It was advertised on the Learning Coalition thread in the Rookie Training Ground, and anyone in the Learning Coalition chat channel where welcome, provided they had a mic, or could at least listen to and acknowledge that they understood the rules.
We are having a GÇ£No ProtoGÇ¥ training match against Eliters tomorrow around 17:00 EVE time. If we canGÇÖt get enough students to fill our team, there will likely be slots available for anyone else who wants to participate. Please stick to GÇ£No ProtoGÇ¥ and any other rules at are agreed to when Artificer Ghost meets with the CEO of Eliters.

Anyone who likes answering new-be questions, or squadding with new players and showing them the ropes, are welcome to join Learning Coalition chat. If you want to be involved in any of our PC activities, joining Learning Coalition chat is the first step for that as well.
One of the founding premises of the Learning Coalition, and one of the things I feel helps to make us successful, is that you donGÇÖt have to leave your Corp to get involved.

We may be able to scrape something together, depending on the time period your Corp is active.
The Learning Coalition faces a few challenges currently when it comes to fielding teams for training battles. They are mostly challenges that will pass as we grow, but that will take a bit more time.
The first challenge is one of demographics. For the most part new students join the Learning Coalition through joining Immortal Guides, our Basic Training Corp. So far I have been doing about 90% of the recruiting for Immortal Guides. It was a slow start, but we are retaining more members now that we have gained critical mass. So far I have been fairly successful in recruiting new players, often in their first days or even hours in game. As you can see from this Graph most of the member of Immortal Guides are very new.
It is my hope that as more people get to know what Immortal Guides and the Learning Coalition are doing, that people will begin directing new players to join Immortal Guides to get their start. It would increase our growth rate and take some of the burden of recruitment off of my shoulders.
After being active for only a couple or months, and having started with a much smaller student population, Immortal Guides has just recently started graduating students to advanced training at Bojo's School of the Trades. We also have had students move to R 0 N 1 N for Scout training, and we had a full graduate who was recruited by Molon Lobe. I also promoted that student, on an Alt, to the position of Director in Immortal Guides.
Many players don't have mics when they first start playing DUST. If we manage to inspire them, they often get mics, and a number of my members have purchased mics after joining. But that seems to be part of the development process as they get to know the game better and become more committed to it. We would really prefer that they have mics for training battles, but a lot of our newer members don't have mics, and don't really have the basics down enough to get a lot out of a PC training battle. So many of our students are not quite ready for that yet.
Then there is the problem of time zones. In the long run it is a strength that the Learning Coalition is active in many time zones, but in the short run it is also a problem. We have between 60 and 70 active students, but usually only have between 4 to 10 online at any one time.
As more of our students progress to the Advanced level and become Terrestrial Combat Officers, it will be easier to organize actual training battles using our students. At this point we still tend to have to fill a lot of the team with Instructors and Mentors from other Corps. A reduced team size might be feasible at this point, provided we have people on at the time with the roles to organize the event, and it is a time when we have a bunch of students on.

Actually after looking at this list, I can see that a lot more of my Students have graduated to well known Corps than I realized.
We have Alumni in: Molon Labe. Ultramarine Corp Unkn0wn Killers Immortal Retribution Robbing The Hood The Neutral Zone
To name a few of the Corps I recognize. |

Well, we have had a bit of a setback. Events in real life prevented Artificer Ghost, CEO of Bojo's School of the Trades, from attending yesterdays PC match. He did not have a backup lined up, so there was no one from Bojo's School of the Trades to bring other members of the Learning Coalition into the match.
If I understand the mechanics of Planetary Conquest correctly, if the attackers win with more than 100 clones surviving, then another match automatically begins 5 minutes later. I assume that this process repeats in the second match, so if the defenders don't show up the attackers can take a district without really trying.
So the long and the short of it is that no one showed up to defend the Bojo district, Egbinger VII - District 6, and Eliters now own that district.
This highlights one of the other challenges the Learning Coalition faces in operating districts. We had not expected to get into district based training this early in our development, so when two districts were donated to us, we did not have the people in place to manage them effectively.
When we were first given the districts, Red Star attacked one before we could reset the timbers. I had to stay up late to bring 15 Ancient Exiles into the match to ring for us. I did not want to have to stay up late to deal with them, so once the Districts were unlocked I set them to early US prime time, when I could be on. I handled the training matches with SVER True Blood and Deadly Blue Dots. After administrating the Districts for a week, I realized that it was more than I could handle. I am married and have a life outside of the game. Managing the Districts was to much of a commitment for me to take on all by myself. So we changed the timer to 17:00 EVE time so that Artificer Ghost could administer the Districts. This was better for holding Dropship Flight School as he is one of our Flight Instructors. However, this has not worked out so well, as he cannot always be online when he would like to be.
In order to administer our districts effectively we really need a pool of people with roles in Immortal Guides and Bojo's School of the Trades who can take turns organizing matches, and can act as backup for each other. We have started working on getting more people in place, but are not there yet.
***
The Immortal Guides district, Egbinger VII - District 7, has a battle on Friday at 17:10 EVE time. Our District was attacked by Maphia Clan Unit Unicorn, a Corporation with 30 members, founded by xxwhitedevilxx. Current CEO is Bimba Arnoux (an EVE Pilote). I have sent them mail, but have not heard back from them yet regarding their intentions.
One of my Students has agreed to ferry ringers into the match. I will be at work myself, and will not be able to attend. I believe a squad or two of Molen Lobe have agreed to ring for us, but we may need more to fill the rest of the team. |

xxwhitedevilxx M wrote: wops it would have been better if you send a mail here on my character's mail. Anyway, we have no intention to take that district. As already stated we had intention to test lag / framerate problems in PC under controlled conditions. There could have been some problem in communications. Mail me ingame please whenever you want.
Ah, good. I think I missed the post where you mentioned this, but I am sure I will run across it once I start poking about on the forums. Or did you sent a mail to Fox? I have not logged in on him in a day or two. I have mostly been playing Crash Gaden, and do most of my in game correspondence with my EVE character Renier Gaden.
What support do you need from our end to help you with your Lag / frame rate tests? I will let my people know what is going on, and may be able to get some people to help with that testing. |

Very good. Scientific testing for the betterment of the game and the benefit of the community is certainly one of the things we would like to do with these districts. I donGÇÖt think any of my guys has video capture, but if anyone with that technology is available I am sure we could get you in on the Immortal Guides side.
Be sure to be in Learning Coalition chat so you can coordinate with our guys. |

Artificer Ghost is going to be contacting Tremal Jack regarding the Eliters occupying the BojoGÇÖs School of the Trades training district. We are hoping he can sell his clones and allow BojoGÇÖs to reclaim the district. It has become more complicated though, as the district appears to have been attacked, and we donGÇÖt know who attacked it. |

xxwhitedevilxx M, you should join Learning Coalition chat to coordinate with the Immortal Guides team to insure that they properly support your testing in today's match. Medaman, from Molon Lobe, will be Acting Grounds Keeper, as I canGÇÖt make it to todayGÇÖs match, and the students I expect to have on at that time are inexperienced in the mechanics. Artificer Ghost may be there. I am not sure. |

xxwhitedevilxx, when you post your results, post a link to it here please. I am looking forward to seeing your results. Art said you managed to produce some real intense lag situations.
Tremal Jack, I will give your offer some thought. Immortal Guides could produce matches by moving clones, rather than paying for Clone packs. We would need to have people from your Corp available to bring people into a match if we start getting bigger attendance numbers, so we can double the available vehicle limit. We might want to change the time again, do you have members active at other times? |

As a pilot project, the Learning CoalitionGÇÖs foray into Planetary Conquest was very successful. We determined that there were several types of training and events which the Learning Coalition could run using Planetary Conquest districts, which were beneficial to the community. We also determined that the Community is supportive of the Learning Coalition holding districts and hosting such events.
We were able to gain experience with district management and the mechanics behind Planetary Conquest. This gave us a better understanding of the resource requirements for effective management of PC districts.
Students: In order for training matches to be viable, the Learning Coalition needs to be able to field 12 students, with 4 instructors, at any time that we have an active district. This would allow us to field a full team for training matches against external Corporations, or to stage an 8 v 8 internal match in a Red vs Blue style.
Administration: It is clear that for any time slot in which the Learning Coalition operate a district we need to have at least 3 people fully capable of organizing events, training sessions, or coordinating ringers. We must have backups for our backups if we want things to run smoothly. This must be in place for each Learning Coalition Corp which holds a district.
Even for Community events or public training sessions where the event is open to the public, rather than requiring the presence of LC students, we would still need members to organize, and bring people into the match.
Based on the projected growth rate of the Learning Coalition it is expected that we will have the student body and administration in place to be able to properly make use of, and manage, Planetary Conquest districts in about 3 months. Adding a little margin for error, our goal is to get back into Planetary Conquest district based training in April. Provided that the Community still supports us in this endeavour.
Therefore, Immortal Guides has sold all clones and has abandoned its district. All funds from clone sales have been transferred to Learning Coalition Bank, where transactions with these funds can be tracked by members of the Learning Coalition Council. The ISK will be used to fund education programs such as: Skill Book reimbursement, vehicle reimbursement when an Instructor calls in vehicles for students to train with, or to purchase clone packs to claim districts in April.
BojoGÇÖs School of the TradesGÇÖ district was lost to Eliters in a training match due to our guy not being able to get online to bring people in to hack an objective to ensure a defender victory. Since the Learning Coalition is pulling out of PC, we release all claim to this district. BojoGÇÖs School of the Trades did not make any profit from their district, although I think they came close to breaking even, minus the cost of some dropships used for training.
The Learning Coalition may continue to offer PC district based training, if arrangements can be made with Corporations holding districts to allow us to use their facilities. Our capacity to organize such events will increase as we train up more Terrestrial Combat Officers, and more Terrestrial Management Officers. By train, I mean more than simple the mechanics. We need people in these roles who are capable of organizing events and training sessions, so that we can distribute the workload. If we hold multiple events/sessions, each should be run by a different person, to avoid an undo burden resting on a single set of shoulders. |

Now for a bit of recognition to members of the Community who helped to make this Pilot Project such a success.
Many thanks to DJINN Kujo and Ancient Exiles. for donating the two districts to the Learning Coalition. It was a bit of a surprise, but we learned so much from the experience.
Another thanks to DJINN Kujo and Ancient Exiles for providing ringers when Red Star attacked Immortal GuidesGÇÖ district.
Many thanks also go to Molon Labe. which agreed to ring for the Learning Coalition if needed, and provided members to fill our teams for training matches when we were short.
Many thanks to individual members of the Learning Coalition who offered to ring or fill slots in training matches, from corps such as Robbing the Hood, Science of Death, Southern Legion, Onslaught, and many more.
I must thank SVER True Blood, in particular Roman837 and CPL Bloodstone, for organizing a No Proto training match using the BojoGÇÖs School of the Trades district. It was not only my fist time as FC, but my first time in a PC battle (even a training battle). It was a good fight and I learned a lot. Top WP on our team in that match was actually a student.
I must thank Echo 1991 and Deadly Blue Dots for organizing a Meta 2 match in the Immortal Guides district. We had a new member who had only been playing DUST for a few days Squad Leading in that match.
I would like to thank Tremal Jack for agreeing to a training match using BojoGÇÖs School of the TradeGÇÖs district. I am sorry that we did not show up, but getting the district is a good cancellation prize.
Finally I must thank xxwhitedevillxx M, and Maphia Clan Unit Unicorn, for the privilege of hosting their PC Lag and Frame Rate testing. I feel this type of testing makes a positive contribution to the game and the community which could benefit from any tweaking CCP does as a result of this testing. Besides, if I ever feel sentimental about our time in PC, I can always watch the MCUU video of their testing to see the district we once held. These are the results of PC testing |
