The good news is that people are still trying this game despite the hardship trudging through the pub stomping.
The bad news is that I've identified most of these people through the barrel of my sniper rifle. Headshots are so much more fun when it is a OHK.
I almost feel bad, I don't want to be part of the problem. I never wear anything above advanced in pubs and try to give feedback to players who I noticeably see making poor choices. I just wish there was a better way to segregate new players, I don't think it is fair for either of us, I want them too stay, and they want a chance.
A lot of people make fair arguments for wearing proto in pubs. "Where else am I going to use it? I'm not in PC" "I use it to counter the other proto players" "I earned the skills to use better gear so I will" "I have plenty of ISK what else am I going to spend it on?"
As much as I hate dealing with proto stompers who am I to say they can't do what they want and they shouldn't?
Now I've always stated the gear has less to do with your effectiveness than personal skills. Proto is just as easy to take down as a starter fit when it runs across an open field and those of us who run BPOs know that 17-2 isn't difficult when using tactics and running in groups. So what's the point of this post? Let's all be clear that proto stomping, and more importantly pub stomping is a problem, anybody who runs in a squad can be guilty of it whether they acknowledge it or not, it just depends on who you're matched up with. At the same time it's not our job to hold back because we are stuck with new players and we want to stay competitive. Just don't overdo it, you do don't yourself any favors by giving yourself a bigger advantage over most of the other team.
I have over 23 mil SP and 300 mil ISK before anyone pulls the "blahh blahh blahh your a jealous newb needs to skill up" argument, and sniping is a recent hobby of mine, I'm taking a break from the AR.

you got valid points innthere, the only thing I don't understand is, thats regular game-business.
Have you ever played bf or cod? there is **** which takes forever to unlock, and it does bring you an advantage, people there use it just like some players use their protos.
Even tho I am not a big fan of protostomps, but I think its just normal, once others get their black suits they will use it aswell, for sure its like shooting cannons at kittens, but isnt this a videogame?

I agree entirely, I'm in the same boat as you, 31 mill SP and 1/4 Billion ISK. I don't care If I use 10 Proto suits, it means nothing .....as my most expensive suit is my sniper suit at 199K

I feel your pain brother, when i decide to whip out my Thale's with 3 complex damage mods as soon i see "frontline" instantly i OHKO him then i feel like i just raped a nun or something. I know to well that i'm making people really angry too cause people will try to counter snipe me and it doesn't work most of the time due to me wall glitching on the tower going 47/0 with the damn thing

Sure, go fight in low-sec or join a corp that does PC. You're still swimming in the kiddie pool after you've done grown up. Weirdo. I trained the skills primarily to make my cheaper suits more effective. If you are bored and want to swim in the kiddie pool then put on your low grade stuff. Better yet, find some nubbins and try and work with them to help them get better.

Try dropships. That'll drain your wallet fast if you feel the need to spend the money. Otherwise, save your money for a rainy day.

I've read about a million of these pub stomping threads by now. At this point the players can't fix something that CCP has no interest in.
I don't think the matches are as mismatched these days as they used to be. I spent time looking over the results of most matches I'm in. Often what seems like a serious stomping was actually reasonably close on a 1v1 comparison. Maybe that is the data they look at to have the indifferance to the issue that they seem to have?
I had an interesting encounter last week. I was placed into a match very near the end that was obviously very lopsided toward the other team. I did the usual thing I do when that happens, run around the back side of the main battle, drop a couple of uplinks, and go looking for an easy target. Two other guys spawned in and the three of us happened on a single player. The first to two started firing on him, I spent a couple of seconds moving to his side. I nearly emptied a magazine into his shoulder area while he took out the other two. He then turned to me and took me out in about a quarter of a second. The game ended. He was the only target I had in the game so the 400 points of damage I did from the end game stats were all his. At the point I died, his shield hadn't been exhausted.
That sort of thing used to really tick me off, now its just kind of cool.
I would love to see CCP's stats for the average career length for new players. It must not be as short as we all think or they would have done something about it by now. |

I see more proto stomping in public contacts rather than factional warfare. Last time we fought againsta full squad of Ancient Exiles but we still beat them because we had our own protos. I spent so much isk trying to bring a few down with me. Was a good game, all in all. |

Nope, that IS feeding the problem and you are a part of it. Meaning by "downgrading" yourself you are only making it worse.
Just as in EVE if you skill up for it and risk the ISK for it, then it can and should provide that advantage. It is not "Pay to win" it is not unfair, it is a mechanic of how the game works and that's that.
Until CCP "fixes" the academy so that the newbs understand the kill or be killed cut-throat nature of the game and have to "earn" their way into the ranks of the regular DUST mercs, you will find that newbs are gonna get owned a lot. It's a higher learning curve than any other FPS out there. The challenge rating is pretty much maxed out from the get go. But then so is EVE Online when it comes to MMO's. So why make DUST easy too? If you want easy mode go play another game. If you want a serious challenge play DUST 514.

EVE pilots can hang out in high sec until they understand the game. They can return there without stomping new players to rebuild wallets or relax. There is always the possibility to go to high sec to stomp younger players but the only reward is if you enjoy griefing. EVE is brutal but has a much better and more gradual introduction to risk.
DUST throws new players into the meat grinder far too soon. There is no PVE to grow wallets and skill trees. Too many veterans stomp the public matches and kill morale before the rookies can become invested in the game. There needs to be a more clear progression for players with reduced rewards for staying behind. I think PVE can help immensely but removing any incentives for veterans to play in public matches can help too.

I don't want Dust to be easy, I want it to be like EVE, but as it stands pub matches in dust are the equivalent of throwing new pilots straight into lowsec. I blame CCP more than anyone for this, PVE or a tiered battle system should have been in place form the start. It's a rough universe, but there has to be something to allow people to step outside the carnage every once and awhile
It's a free to play game so people lose nothing by trying it, but they also lose nothing by leaving it after a couple of terrible matches.

You probably beat them because they never sent a person within 50 meters of an objective. Lots of people are in it for the kills. They don't try to win, they try to get a higher KDR.
Remove time in battle from ISK payout formula and provide a bonus to winning team... Watch battles become fun again.

It's not our fault that newberries get thrown to the shark pit just when they're learning what end to point their gun. The NPE was doomed the day CCP said matchmaking wasn't a top priority. Play a free trial of EVE Online and then make a new too. In Dust and see how much the Devs really care about player retention by comparison.
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

I DO CARE about the win though . That to me , means just as much and even more so . It's not even a toss up between a victory and kills because victories are shared by the whole team , but only I can enjoy my kills .

If you believe you are "safe" anywhere in EVE that is not docked in a station, then you are deluding yourself and haven't really played that game much. Yes there are relative levels of "safety" in some places, but it's still possible for people to kill you anywhere. There are no guarantees in EVE and similarly in DUST you can get owned by someone using maxed out skills and gear as a newb. It's not meant to be easy-mode, it's only got one mode - insanity. Once you realize that is the mode you are playing with, then you start ot refine your tactics and behavior to match accordingly and the true challenge (and fun) begins.

Why are there sooooo many Public Avengers in here that believe the more seasoned players have to babysit the noobs? That is complete BS. Didn't we all start out the same exact way? When I started playing at launch I was stomped, stomped, stomped, and stomped some more. I bitched and I complained. But I made it through all that ****. And now the game is very rewarding because I feel like I earned something. I worked through the stomps to become a better player. All the new noobs can do the same or GTFO.
Hell, I still get the occasional stomping when I run solo. But I've learned to change tactics and deal with it. Even through the stomps I still run positive and make isk. You've got to learn somehow. Hand holding is not going to help anyone.

True but that's only if your running around with something lucrative enough to warrant suicide ganking you. When I get bored I run level 1 security missions for fun. I'd like to see someone gank my Tristan.

It's just sad, and it's nobodies fault but CCP. I think it's unfair for older players to say they are going through the same things the new players are, seeing as how we were on relatively equal levels in both skills and equipment.

I do agree that the academy sucks and needs fixing thought. For the purposes of increased player retention, having a longer academy where players have to "earn" their way out and becoming one of the regular DUST mercs means something and better prepares them for the "meat grinder" as you put it, would be of benefit to the game.
I never said you were 100% safe in high sec but the risk is orders of magnitude lower in high sec than low or null. A rookie doesn't undock and immediately fly into the cross hairs of a mass of Tech 2 cruisers that fry them in one volley. The number of people that lose ships in high sec to other players is extremely low unless you are at war. Ganks happen but just aren't that frequent. DUST won't get high numbers of players until there is a more gradual introduction to the extreme violence.

Maybe the beta vets but I started at launch. Plenty of high SP players from beta stomped my ass every day, believe me...

As a "Public Avenger" I want to see the game succeed because I believe in the concept. If the game doesn't reach some magic number for profitability at some point development will stop and eventually the servers turned off. We need more players. Those players need to stick around and then enjoy the game enough to spend real money on it.
If you are selfish and only care about your own success and stomp on the new berries then a high percentage won't stick around long enough to become proficient enough to survive and contribute.

I leave battles if I am getting Proto Stomped. I refuse to waste my Proto suits on Assholes who ruin the game by killing everyone in 2-3 mins. 48 to 0. A bit of spawn camping going on as well. Meet me face to face. Better still, bring in your tank.

I tend to run advanced now, unless i'm lone wolfing and I need a balancing factor between an organized squad.
I honestly don't look at suits anymore, I don't care if you are using proto, adavanced, or some super suit from the future sent back to make sure john connor isn't around to see D-day, I just bring what I need to kill you, that's it.
if you have time to think about what suit I'm using maybe you should be spending more of that time thinking about how you can kill me.
I'll tell you right now no matter what I bring to the table a standard RE in the right place at the wrong time will make all the difference in the world. |

Pretty much what this game has come down to and CCP does nothing about it. Kind of sad when you ask someone who put some effort into the recruitment program only to see a very small percentage stick around. |

Hell, I still get the occasional stomping when I run solo. But I've learned to change tactics and deal with it. Even through the stomps I still run positive and make isk. You've got to learn somehow. Hand holding is not going to help anyone. As a "Public Avenger" I want to see the game succeed because I believe in the concept. If the game doesn't reach some magic number for profitability at some point development will stop and eventually the servers turned off. We need more players. Those players need to stick around and then enjoy the game enough to spend real money on it. If you are selfish and only care about your own success and stomp on the new berries then a high percentage won't stick around long enough to become proficient enough to survive and contribute.
I completely agree with you. But you'll have to excuse me if I turn on a video game for my own selfish enjoyment.
As a side note it should be mentioned I run plasma cannon 99% of the time so I am not protostomping anyone as far as I know.

If I could like Reav's posts 10 times I would. Lets be honest, even if you started at launch you were not exposed to the level of stomping that goes on now.
I played at the start of open beta, quit for a few weeks because finishing off my weapons in Warhammer was more fun (except the pistols, bleh that was a pain), and came back a couple weeks before beta ended. My passive SP allowed me to make a more sustainable character so it was less soul-crushing. However, even for the first month or two post-launch, it was a rarity to see more than 2-3 proto players per side in pubs. You saw a duvolle on the killfeed and knew to stay the heck away from that guy. Consider this: There were no scrambler rifles at the time. Even still, Duvolles were uncommon.
Not now. At least every other match has a minimum of 1 full squad that runs full proto. Duvolles with prof 5 are the norm. It's just not the same.

It's a game that has serious trouble with player retention. I'm not QQing, I go positive most of the time in ADV gear, I've used my proto suit only a few times. I want the player counts to remain sustainable.
