Dust community, I'm looking for help. I recently decided to try out Mass Drivers two days ago and threw together a suit. I have been met with mixed results, and so I have a few questions of the MD community out there.
The weapon has an odd travel arc, is this part of the learning curve, or is there some trick to this.
Related to the first question, the weapon seems to be limited on the low ground. Should I rely on my side arm here, or is there another way.
I'm only using basic right now with complex mods. Is the weapon garbage till higher levels?
What fit is good? Should I worry about tank at all here or should a rack of complex dmg mods be all I need. Also, what equipment is good? Should I be packing nanohives to compensate for its low ammo capacity?
Lastly, is this a lone wolf weapon, or should I stick to my team. What scenarios will this weapon shine?
Thank you in advance!
Also please keep it constructive. Ty |

Keep in mind, 5% to splash radius per level, splash is the MDs bread and butter. If on the low ground, grenades or side-arm, high ground no-brainer. Travel time may be the worst part of this weapon so learn how to predict your targets path, not just lead them.
You can solo with it, but as a support weapon is where it shines. Look for choke points and bounce the splash off walls. ALWAYS carry a nanohive and invest in the rapid reload. Once you get good enough I've seen guys practically snipe with it. It's an indirect fire weapon to an extent though, think of every round as a contact locus. Hope some of this helps.

I usually run with the EXO-5 with 2 Complex dmg mods also proficiency 5. When aiming at the opponents at a greater distance I use the 2nd line from bottom of the scope. CQC i'll aim just beyond them that way I don't receive the splash damage. And Yes always extra Nano's.. Having higher ground than your opponent is also an advantage.

Do you attempt to armor tank at all? Or do you just run red and green juice in the lows. |

The nice thing is you've already got good speed, I'd run reactive plates in your lows. Keep in mind, the successful engagement range is not necessarily the same as the optimal range for the MD. Due to long travel times, you may need to close with your enemy more than you'd like, you need to be able to close quickly and absorb some of your blast damage, because you will mess up. Conversely you can stay at range and provide supporting fire for your squad, but it's kind of either/or.
I run this with a Cal logi so I'm less use for fitting, but I highly recommend the Exo-5, it's damaging enough I don't run a module, with a decent splash.
It's so satisfying when you kill someone and watch their body rag-doll through the air too.

Valerie, forgive me, because I don't run M-Assault, but let me try to peice together a general fitting. (Not knowing slot counts, so I'll just name a couple things you *should* have).
Shield Extenders. You're a Shield Tanker. Do it. Kincats/CarRegs. Minmatar have the need for speed, what can I say? AReactive Plate. No more than one. Need the independence. Breach Mass Driver. Just try it out. Get close using your speed, and then 2-shot 'em. If that's not your thing, the EC-3 obliterates everything but heavies. SMG. Because of where the MD falls short, you need a SUPER reliable sidearm. A Scrambler is good, if you're accurate, but under fire it's safer to spray and pray. Always have ADV+ Nanohives on hand. Anything from level 2 and below just don't provide enough ammo to resupply you in time. The K-2 is one of the few things that I have no regrets purchasing.
And yush. At least try to have half of that stuff with you. It all helps. Remember that Armor Tanking is a no-no for Mass Drivers. I run a 600+ eHP Gallente Logistics and I've been using the Mass Driver since early chromosome (I'm incredibly skilled with the thing). I still suicide daily because of the damage it does to my armor, especially with the larger splash radius of the EC-3 and the ADV Damage Mods I equip.

Tips for mass driver usage/pwnage:
1.) Remember it gives bonuse dmg to armor and weak against shield. It will take more shots to go through shields (sometimes almost your full clip) so it is wise to invest in flux grenades even at lvl 1 they take out all dropsuit shields within its radius and it goes through walls. so you can 1-2 shot shield tank guys with their 100-200 armor left when their 600hp shield is gone (works even in the proto lvl)
2.) Learn the arc. It will become natural with experience. Learn to shoot their feet. Learn to lead with the shot. learn how big the splash radius is. the more surgical you get with it the better you will be at medium ranges.
3.) Elevation is your friend. learn the maps, any ledge on top of a group of guys is prime hunting ground for mass drives. watch the kill feed fill with your name first on the list . watch as your mail indicatior starts flashing constandly from hate mails.
4.) Learn to use your sidearm (smg). Once you get good with the mass driver. and get higher kdr with it youll start to run out of ammo as u rack up the kills. at this stage, to be more efficient. learn to use your sidearm not as back up but as a PRIMARY weapon to start an engangement. once shields are down. pull out your massdriver and go for the kill. not only will you save your ammo but will improve on your sidearm gun game.
Just remember to take into consideration if your enemy is shield or armor tanked. at the proto lvl its far more efficient to hit a shield tank enemy with a flux than give them the time to kill you with their weapon as you whittle their shield with an smg. with proto armor tankers especially logi armor tankers. be sure to get their shields out someway before you start firing your MD. if you dont, you wont have enough ammo in your clip to go throught their shield and armor without reloading. (though not always the case because it depends on your skills, your enemie's skills and fittings also).
5.) Learn to bunny hop while enganging at even level with your opponent. it allows you to evade the gun spray (sometimes doesnt work against really good players) . But it can cut enemy dps in half as your go about killing them with a massdriver |

Ty Vyle, I'll keep those tips in mind. I already have adv flux nades and proto smg, so those shouldn't be too hard. I really just bed to work on the md aiming. |

Instead of aiming with the camera control, try leading the shot -aiming with your feet. Okay, maybe that was confusing. Use your angle indicator at first to get a feel for where the round will impact, once you find a comfortable medium between your usual engagement range and your splash damage, try not to adjust the elevation.
If you are a dead eye or used to the shottie scout, the breach variant will serve you well. The travel time of the round makes for a challenge at mid range and further. If you are in a non ff environment and/ or need heavy suppressive fire, go for the assault variants. The quicker ROF and higher ammo capacity more than make up for the decreased damage. This variant is pretty cool and the kill-steal king in dust. For solo battles the standard variants will be your friend.
Just to summarize:
- Aiming is secondary to learning the feel of the weapon. (Learning to lead the targets if you don't like the phraseology)
- Your variants matter.
- And bump to what everyone else already said.

I know it seems strange, but with the trending short range dps/armor tanked suits being popular right now, use an assault mass driver on a suit with stacked shield extenders, and a cardiac regulator + a shield regulator. It sounds very odd but trust me: it works. You basically want to assault your enemy from the front, but stay behind your tankier allies. If the close range assaults get to close, simply run away, as your carreg will allow you to outrun them. You want to keep your distance around 30-40m. When fighting in close range, use the splash as your weapon. Fight around corners and dont ever allow them to see you, but kill them with splash.
Also, mass driver is garbage until you get MD OP to lvl 5. Then the exo is good and the freedom is bomb for close range room clearing and such. For spamming, area denial, and outdoor assaults, use the ec-3 or the boundless.
The callogi and the MN are particularly good with this weapon because using it without a good shield buffer is asking for trouble. Dont bother with damage mods bc the dps is so low that itll barely affect it, anyhow.
Also, it works best with logis bc if you arent carrying at least 2 nanohives (preferably k-2s or better), you'll be screwed. You can only engage as many times as you have nanohives, so you basically HAVE to run logi-assault style (2 hives and maybe a scanner). If you're running assault, get them ishukone gauged hives bc they allow you to carry 4 hives with you.
Don't bother with flux nades either. Just stick with locus bc those ohk everyone, anyway. SMG is a good choice, too. Dont use flaylocks. You want something dependable. If you can cut it, the scrambler P is the best bc it takes out shields and can OHK weaker suits with head shots.
