I can see Gamestop losing potential customers from this glaring mistake alone.

Has CCP notified Gamestop of the change regarding merc packs? If so, how long ago was that notification made? Has Gamestop responded at all?
OP, did you get your refund from Gamestop?

As the article implies, there was a debate about legalities on whether or not a retail store can rip away part of a merchandise and still sell it as NEW.

I often question the overall effectiveness of that method. Sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn't. It all boils down to technicalities.

I just brought it up because I have seen people claim to threaten to use this method in regards to the BPOs being removed, but that subject belongs on another thread.

He's not an idiot. He did it out of pure curiosity to see if it would work. Apparently he has done us all a service by providing us with information on the experience so that people like you and me won't have to suffer through it. On top of that, this revealed a glaring issue with Gamestop and its service.
Not only that, but if Jadek is right about Gamestop mixing up the descriptions of the packs, then the problem with Gamestop is bigger than I thought.

OP, did you get your refund from Gamestop? I'm incredibly interested in these points. I'm pretty positive we won't get the details of internal affairs of this little fiasco.
At this point, in light of the mistake that Gamestop has made with the description of what they're selling, I'm going to assume that Gamestop dropped the ball on this one. If they can make an error like this, whose to say Gamestop hasn't made other such errors?

Also, I was there in regards to the early merc packs. Maybe you were misinformed on what some scrub told you or you misinterpreted what you saw back then, but what went down is that there was confusion in regards to the refunding of the merc packs in-game once Dust 514 went into full release (which it did). Because of the nature of the release, players who purchases these merc packs back in closed beta were given two options. Either...
A) Keep your character stats (SP, KDR, etc.), assets, AUR and ISK but don't get the merc packs refunded to you. or B) Get your merc pack refunded to you but your character gets wiped back to "zero" (as if you just started over).
It was a long-winded debate over that.
Anyways, back to the topic at hand before we stray off any further.
This is about Gamestop and its business practices.
EDIT: In addition to the two options given above, players who didn't opt for the refund were also given the option of getting a free respec during the full release.

Update time. I have gotten word back from CCP that the sole code I received of two packs ordered ($150) is, you guessed it, invalid. And I cannot go back to check my code for reference because Gamestop has deleted access to viewing my exact code. Their phone support is worse than useless. And after a full week I have not received a single update on my complaint requests; besides auto message bots. This is just wrong Gamestop. Utterly wrong!
I did not imitate a chargeback, however they are treating like one without actually sending money back to my card.
Time to contact the journalist now. Don't forget to try Ten Ton Hammer as well.

I suggest you focus your skill points to train up Reading Comprehension to Level 1. We're talking about Gamestop here. In this case, at least a HUMAN representative from CCP tried to help him. As for Gamestop, no response other than a cookie-cutter autoreply, no refund, inaccurate product description, etc.
