I currently have Minmatar Logi at proto and I love the suit...however I have always wanted an aggressive suit that has both a light and sidearm slot.
Other suits I have at ADV:
Minmatar Medium (very similar to Minmatar Assault)
Heavy Frame
Sentinel
Caldari Medium
I at first wanted a shield suit so I originally thought I should go for Caldari Assault. I then realized that I wanted more of a heavy shield fit...so I will have to wait for the Caldari Heavy.
Then I thought about maybe the Amarr Logi, as it has lots of equipment and a sidearm....but it's slow, and I like my suits to be fast and agile (besides heavies of course). Amarr Assault sounded like a good choice as my primary weapon is the Scrambler, but I feel as if the low slot count at ADV would mean that I would have to use at least one slot for an armor rep or rely on a repping nanohive, meaning that the HP would be low.
Lastly, I thought about a scout fitting. Minmatar scout relies too much on not being detected as speed/shield tanking it doesn't really do much. However the Gallente scout seems interesting to me as not only does it have an automatic bonus to detection, but the low slots give it the ability to be fast and have a lot of HP.
I bet you're wondering "but what about the minmatar medium frame/assault?" Well, unfortunately I've tried many setups with it and just haven't been able to see a large advantage from my Minmatar logi. The extra slot count, higher armor, and automatic 5hp/s reps let me do so much more in terms of both shield tanking and speed that I just don't feel it works for me.

or something else? I eventually want to get one of these to proto, is the proto variant of any of these make them much better than the others? Is the speed on the Amarr Logi not really that big of a problem/can it be remedied? Is there a suit I'm possible overlooking that has what I need?

dont go logi if you plan on being a slayer, remember there going to be putting only a sidearm on it in the future, so start getting use to it now. if you use SCR id say amarr assault for the 25% reduction to heat. also its a shame about you not liking minmatar, alot of the top players rock it.

More low slot means more versatility, go for gal assault.
Then try inverse tanking.

My personal suggestion is Amarr Assault, if you enjoy the Scrambler Rifle. The difference is night and day.
You're going to have a moderate amount of HP on the ADV suit, yes, but it's a fair trade for all that power. Don't forget about the PG/CPU, you will be able to fit your slots with the best modules and a nice sidearm.
I wouldn't stop at ADV, however, I would go for Level 5 as soon as possible.

The proto Minmatar Assault is where it's at...I just don't want to spend a bunch of skillpoints into a tree that I already have the ADV suit of (minmatar medium frame is almost exactly the same).
