Since CCP has confirmed that a nerf is coming for Logistics suits but won't say what, all we can do is speculate. Since in the announcement they link to a thread focusing on talk about making logis sidearm only I assume that's what's going to happen. (post)
I run mk.0 and use an Imperial Scrambler Rifle (as a logi, not a slayer).
I was thinking about how everything would change with a sidearm only nerf, but then I realized something. Since I'm good at FPSs and have a PRO weapon that means that sometimes I will go off on my own and leave the group (although not in a squad, when I'm in a squad I stick with them, since I rarely squad up, just follow the horde and logi all).
So even if we are being a logistics sometimes we'll go and lone wolf for a bit. A sidearm only nerf would actually stop me (and others) from doing this by restricting our combat ranges, we could still do it, but it wouldn't look as appealing since we'd have our range cut down. (I've run sidearm Logi before, could tear through enemies in close quarters better than an HMG)
And then I remembered, not all sidearms are out yet, and some look quite promising, specifically, the Magsec SMG.
The reason I find it promising is right here. We've only got the SMG (Projectile) right now.
The Magsec SMG is a railgun so it'll have the highest range, and it's Breach by default (from what I've heard) so it'll be accurate. And going from the concept art (top left) it'll have a red dot sight for improved ADS.
Going with the whole range chart, off the top of my head I expect the Magsec SMG to have about the same range as, or just below, that of the Assault Rifle.
I'd be fine with sidearm only logis if the Magsec actually turns out like this. By swapping out my SR for MSMG I'd get more CPU/PG for modules and equipment since Sidearms use less. And since I've run Sidearm only logi before, I can tell you, the damage won't really be a problem, only the range would be. (although that was with the current SMG, and not the MSMG)
But if a Dev reads this please do these two things:
- Seperate release of all sidearms and logi nerf. (If all sidearms are released in 1.9 then logi nerf will be 2.0 at the earliest.)
- Confirm that it is indeed sidearm only nerf when all sidearms are released.
Number 2 will tell us that we have to decide, otherwise only the paranoid ones or ones who would go sidearm anyway will skill into Sidearms.
Number 1 will give Logis time to decide which sidearm they want and to skill into it (even start making fits), as well as fix any balance issues with them. |

Ah, not quite.
I saw in another post (can't remember where, so no link, sorry) that the logi nerf won't be for awhile. With 1.7 just around the corner this doesn't mean it isn't the sidearm only nerf, just that whatever the nerf is won't be coming in 1.7. |
