I'm putting this is the Rookie Training Grounds section due to the fact I think it could be a dumb question...but here goes.
I use the active scanner a lot (the Quantum one) and run into the issue of it scanning people who blink for a second and then disappear. It's been individual and multiple people depending on the occasion, and I've visually verified multiple times they weren't all killed at the same time (stuff happens). Why am I getting them to only blink and not remain on my screen for the allotted time? |

Also! I'd like to add something else to this. I've gone around scanning someone only to have them disappear on the subsequent scan. When I investigate, nine times out of ten they end up killing me because they were there all along. Why do they appear during one scan and disappear on the next? They're usually not right next to a Supply Depot, so their scan profile hasn't changed. I'm just baffled. |

If you do a quick sweep you see them but they won't be painted. You need to focus more time on them in order for them to be fully painted and stay lit for the duration.

I think there is an issue of multiple scanners being used in one squad, not sure if one person using a proto scanner may be overwritten but someone in squad only using a basic.

I did a quick sweep on the first time around as well, though. That's what's confusing. Why would the first quick sweep catch the individual for the full duration while the second sweep doesn't even make them blink (in my second instance)?

I'm almost never in a squad (lack a sufficient internet connection for a viable mic chat), so there's no issue with other scanners overtaking mine. I will admit I often scan immediately after I get the scanner to recharge even though the enemy should stay around for a good ten more seconds. You never know when someone has gotten closer in that time, so I feel like it's a good idea. Would that be a factor? I don't see how, though. |

Scanners are sometimes wonky when it comes to illumination time. It might have to do with being unsquadded; I'll check if I notice a difference between running solo in my own locked squad, or being just another unsquadded blueberry.
Interesting facts - if you're running dampeners, the person who scans you does not receive a "Some Margin of Error" message anymore. I tested this extensively. If you evade a scan, the scanning merc still receives "No Margin of Error" even if you have line of sight on the person you're scanning. When that person ducks back into cover, they do not pulse on the Tac Net either.
If you are scanned you can actually hear when the person scans you (and it is somewhat directional). It sounds like a string of four single SMG shots, separated by one second intervals. Obviously if there is gunfire going on it would be very hard to pick out this subtle noise, but it is definitely audible when it's quiet.
Lastly, it seems like the scan fidelity of installations is somewhere above 45 but below or equal to 50 dB. From the reduced profile just by having the skill to Lvl 5 (no additional dampening modules), I do not appear on the Tac Net as a medium frame when I am next to enemy installations. |

To add to this, I use the scanner a lot. Obsessively so, now that I know what it does. I feel naked and surrounded when I don't have it, but that being said, I have this happen a few times. Once when I do the sweep too quickly AND they happen to show right before the end of my sweep. I feel like after repeated use, those I pick up at the very end of my scan seems to be hit or miss in that window. I've never had whole bunches disappear, but have had singles disappear on me.
I KNOW that some of the ones that only blink and don't stay highlighted are running some very good dampeners. No matter how I scan them. That and like Sana said, if they've sunk into the reduced profile, there is also the chance of them sneaking past you. It's a pretty good balance. |

Squadding up in a solo squad seems to help with scan results disappearing too quickly. I haven't proved anything extensively yet though. |

Turns out there is a bug. I'm sorry, I don't know how to link in forums, but check the bugs/feedback from the devs. Apparently it is something they are fixing in 1.7.
Man, I hope so. Hi, I am Seeth, and I'm an addict. I can't run without a scanner. I tried it, and found myself doing little pirouettes while I dropped my remote explosives.
Hi! Gosh, I've missed you...with every bullet, plasma shot, rail gun, and missile.
