I really like these giveaways. It's not really the ISK, it's the themes. I enjoyed reading about loads of different fits last time and the posts here are just as enjoyable.
So, my entry.
A little thing:
I would like to see a scout buff.
Scouts are by far the worst off group in Dust at the moment - they have miniscule HP, barely any room to fit modules, low slot count, only a marginal speed and stealth advantage. It's possible for medium frames to get scan profiles almost as low as scouts, and similar speeds - I've taken to running KinCats on my Amarr Assault rather than using a scout simply because there's so little difference. Active scanners can pick almost anything up if they're motivated to anyway.
They don't have the versatility to use equipment that seems so suited to them - it's sad. Their weapons are lacklustre. You can backpedal away from nova knives fairly easily and shotguns aren't very lethal except when you're practically touching the enemy.
I'd like to see the speed advantage increase, a decrease in scanner effectiveness, a second equipment slot, more PG/CPU, more slots, nova knife fixes. Perhaps not all of them, but love for the scouts. I'm hoping that this is actually coming as well.
2014
Well. There are lots of things that I'd love to see in 2014 that I feel are realistic goals. Not necessarily all of them, but some of them.
I'll go for multiple - I hope you don't mind!
The first thing I'd like to see would be active modules. At the moment, infantry combat is just bricktank and/or damage mods. Ideally, this would change that.
Here's how it would work - It's similar to the 'waves of opportunity' mentality that's being applied to active tanked vehicles at the moment. You have active modules, and you have passive modules. The passive modules would work much as they do now - you put the module onto the fitting, and it applies the effect permanently whilst fitted. The active modules would work differently, much like vehicle modules. You would go to the equipment wheel and select the module to activate it. As an example, you could have armour/shield hardeners - increasing your resistance and your effective toughness for a short period before cooling down. This allows you to get an advantage in things like cover to cover combat - giving you high burst HP. This would be balanced by being in high/low slots - you'd have to sacrifice passive modules to fit hardeners or active modules, making you weaker than a passive user when the modules aren't active. This would make you vulnerable to things like snipers or ambushes in return for the strength you can get in burst periods.
There's a lot that could be done with this - you could have speed boosts, quick regen modules, shield/armour hardeners, damage amplifiers, hack ciphers, etc. It'd introduce a great deal more variety into what can be done with fittings, and variety is the spice of life.
The second thing is the economy. I think this is crucial to Dust's development as a meaningful shooter with consequence as well as a sandbox. Amazing things have been done with the market in EVE - it's almost entirely player regulated, as I think you know.
It'd allow a great deal of interesting things to happen in Dust. An economy would develop - you could sell and trade your salvage for equipment you're actually likely to use. This could help regulate the FotM and underpowered roles, as FotM items are in very high demand leading to a higher price for them whilst 'underpowered' items are less used and so any spares end up going for a low price.
Luxury goods could be bought and sold, letting people's bank accounts be more useful than just having stockpiles of the same suits - got a lot of ISK, feeling good? Splurge and get an officer item for your next match!
It lets scams happen. This could be seen as a bad thing, but it drives emergent gameplay - people conning others into handing over their kit for cheap, mislabelling items.
It drives conflict. ISK becomes of more value than just having enough to fund your normal equipment. PC districts could become more hotly contested as people become very interested in those ISK sources.
It paves the way for LP stores in FW. It's absolutely crucial to the success of the upcoming FW system that the LP store items can be bought and sold - there is no other way for FW players to fund themselves. This can also create interesting balancing factors within the warzone - if one side is losing badly and the other is winning, then the winning side's wares go for less as there's a greater supply, and the loser's LP store items go up in price, incentivising people to try and change the balance of the warzone. These battles have meaning as a result of this - people care whether they win or lose, how well their faction is doing. The space war changes as a result of what's happening on the ground. In the Gallente/Caldari warzone battles over systems like Heydieles were changed massively as a result of what was happening on the ground - the market could bring even more of an interesting balance in the warzone.
Thirdly (I started talking about this in the last point) faction warfare revamps. I'm pretty sure these are coming though!
And finally, full racial parity. Simply for the variety - there are so many cool things that could yet be done with full racial parity - fully armoured Gallente heavies, Amarr combat scouts, surprisingly fast yet tough Minmatar heavies (with added duct tape)!
I'm running out of space in this post, so I'll continue on to future vision in my next one.
I'd just like to say that actually, I think CCP can do a fair bit in 2014. I know there's a lot of doubt, but the game has actually come a long way since the first days.

Brokerib wrote:Wow, thanks so much Castor. Now I won't have to start playing pub matches after all! And congratulations to the other entrants too, there are some great concepts here. Hopefully CCP takes note. In particular Arkena's future vision, Marston's PVE concept, and Svaknai's weapons room. Now I can't wait to get back from holidays so I can logon and open my presents
Gratz! Thanks Castor. <3
