It is the same way here, but with out all racial weapons and so far no way to test out gear before using it. CCP likes it when people find fits that decimate the opposition, as evidenced by the Forge, Grenade spam and a sale of Contact Nades that the forums raged about. As an eve player you would know that by now. As for logi being as easy to run as storm troopers, the SP requirement to do so is considerably higher for anyone who also wants to be a ammo toter or rep giver. It balances and is not easier at low SP levels but will certainly look easier at High SP levels simply because the support skills are already trained.

Look, unless you're not firing you're bullet in a match you're helping by using you're equipments i see logi's ignoring me when i need reps. You see logis ignoring you when you need reps because we can't see your health bar.
Don't be a fool use the pool of nanites coalescing around your feet. Heals and repairs, that's all that's there.
