... in pictures like this CCP tries to make it look like there is diversity by putting different suits with different colors and different guns, when in reality the gallente logi in that picture (or is that an assault?), would actually have an AR, and kill the assault , heavy, and scout in .5 seconds each. Seriously there isn't any diversity right now in dust, AR and ScR are king, and even I take out the Duvolle sometimes when the people on the other team feel that they have to use an AR or ScR with damage mods, otherwise I will use the scout. Why don't people use more niche weapons? I would actually like to hear a good answer.

Because players tend to choose the path of least resistance when they play games. They opt for whatever fit/weapon will give them the most kills for the least amount of effort. Assault rifles are pretty easy to use and many people spec into them early on because it is a very recognizable weapon. Also, "The best defense in not a good offense, it's a good defense." I see you there Marcus Kincaid. HAHAHAH SOMEONE GOT THE ******* REFERENCE LOL! You just made my damn day +1 to you good sir!

Flix Keptick wrote:The reason why people don't use niche weapons is because they want no downside. The assault rifle has 0 downsides. It is also just as good as most niche weapons in their own niche, why use something else? CCP needs to fix this. It's just crazy; Shotgun-close quarters only, but very powerful, requires decent accuracy. AR- close quarters to mid range, requires no skill to use (especially with aim assist) and is very powerful. See?

My favorites are the MD, LR, SG, and SL.
But I also use Burst and Tactical ARs; do those count as niche weapons? I would say the ARs would be a niche weapon if there were no breach or regular ARs, full auto =/= niche. (maybe with the exception of the SMG, maybe...)

Theres too many who want to win just a bit too much probably, the most hilarious is playing a pub match and the other team caps everything super quick like it matters, the reality is that the shorter the match the less sp and isk we get. Translation: Too many try hards.

(maybe with the exception of the SMG, maybe...) The Breach AR is not a niche weapon, but I do believe that the SMG is a very niche weapon. If you want to be effective you have to get within 20m of the target. I just wish the Regular AR was not so ridiculously OP right now. It's existence really makes me embarrassed to have the SP into ARs. Even if I don't use the vanilla just seeing one is like watching a video of squads spamming Assault MDs on a high tower or building. Sickening. Just the fact that there is a weapon that is better in any situation (except long range, thats for snipers and lazors) and takes less skill than any other weapon, and it has the least fitting requirements out of light weapons, is embarrassing to the simple idea of game balance. I take down heavys in CQC with my Duvolle (makes me sick to say) with 3 Cx damage mods, but since I'm a min logi, I'm not as OP as cal or gal logis, but the guns still is, and they die in less than a second, and auto-aim less me hit every shot without even trying.

The option should be there but they shouldnt be forced into it though And lets all just be completely honest for a minute and admit the AR really isnt over powered but that style of weapon is generally used by guys with a lot of modern FPS experience rather than older games were almost everything was niche and due to that things like mobility and attack angles are more important that what you are using and that alone can trump the rock paper scissors system a lot of people think that this game should run on and not what it actually does I mean hell, I can be just as effective with the SMG as I am with an AR and its partly because I dont have any notion of X should beat Y should be Z and stay on my toes all the time Do you mean CoD? Because CoD's TTK is faster than the speed of light. The last thing Dust needs is to be like CoD, even though it looks like that's what CCP wants. In CoD everyone has the same health, and everyone moves at the same speed, and everyone uses the same gun. That is literally the worst sounding game imaginable. And it's not just CoD that's the only modern shooter like that; Battlefield, for example is CoD except a lot better. I'll give Dice that, Battlefield is a decent game, but it's still far from what Dust is...,
EDIT: Oh and what? "Let's all be honest and admit the AR isn't OP..." What the in the f*cking world are you thinking? Have you ever ventured from your assault or logi suit?

What the in the f*cking world are you thinking? Have you ever ventured from your assault or logi suit? Not just those two but grab a list of FPS games and see how many have a general purpose weapon with no downside or particular strength but that lack of a downside being its strength and at least get COD mechanics right if you want to harp on them since the perk and fitting systems there are really just a more condensed version of what we have here Im no fan of the series since its just yearly full priced map packs but I do like to know about something before whining about it And it really really isnt OP, widely used sure but not OP I mean if your metric for OP is something that kills you often then scrambler rifles are OP to me since I get killed by those most often or if you want to break it down with some actual reasons the scrambler rifle has a greater range, more damage, and has the same ROF and lack of kick as the old tactical AR which people screamed was OP all the time *Note to you guys already getting your panties in a twist because OP was close to the words scrambler rifle, I dont think its OP I think its fine If you really think neither the Scrambler or the AR are OP, then you must have never used a different gun. Go use a scout with a shotty or nova knives. Or go use a heavy with an HMG. Get off your logi / assault bandwagon and wake up to your reality.
And this isn't a "modern" mainstream shooter, this isn't CoD or BF. Using an AR or Scrambler takes as much brain effort as tying your shoe.

Wow! Outstanding weapon balance!
