Really, i love the hell out of this game but in my opinion you guys run an inefficient system of developing your game. No offense mind you, i see things being done WHICH IS AWESOME but it strays away from the things that NEED to be done. I know that you have your "plans" for future content but i highly suggest you arrange what your priorities are. Use the the resources you have to give the players what they need to see to keep this game fresh in their minds.
In my opinion this is a list of the things that need to be focused on first. Personal notes in parenthesis
1. MATCH MAKING. (This is huge guys, i dont know why this hasn't been on the top of your list already. Their are an overwhelming number of negative posts completely trashing the match making system. This is ESSENTIAL for holding on to the hope of keeping new players.)
2. OPEN PLAYER MARKET. (This is big in my mind, because its one of those things that ccp has promised for a long time, it would totally change the future of this game as a console fps. It would automatically be set apart from other fps and attract so many players with the fresh idea of player trading. I think it would be so popular that it would force other developers to copy the idea for their game. I know it would be a lot easier for me to convince my friends to play as well if i could advertise an open market to them.)
3. "FINISH" BASIC CONTENT [complete skill trees, racial content, weapons etc.] (This one should almost be number two because it would be harder to add stuff into the market then it would be to create a market with 100% of its content. On the other hand i think its snug at #3 because their will always be new content added so their never will be a 100% mark, they will have to add stuff into it anyways. Otherwise this one goes without saying.)
4. FIX AND BALANCE THE CONTENT. (So this is where i get to explain where i view the inefficiency.... This game needs new players, we know this, i think your trying to attract them to quickly. As part of your business strategy i would STOP advertising, just here me out on this...... )
5. EVENTS [marketing dept.]. ( i put this one here because its essential for the capital required to produce anything in the game at all. I just think they need a huge overhaul at the marketing department, they could be making some real money. This "black friday sale" is ridiculous, especially cause it is the only deal and they released the info on it a couple days before hand. )
*adjust when necessary

I think this is all fine, but balancing should be viewed as a process, not a single event. Balancing, like in EVE, will have it's own patch section, and be constant. I think what this game really needs is something to increase longevity for players. So to me that's the meta-game and content - the player trading and secondary market is indeed one of those issues, as well as the rest of the racial suits, vehicles and weapons, then there's PvE - which I think people forget is the only way to have an inviting new player experience to increase player retention rates. It's interesting to see CCP devs talk about improving the new player experience, when without PvE, whatever they throw it is a stop-loss measure. You cannot introduce a new player (whether he's played FPS's or not) to Dust 514 in a gradual, structured way in a dynamic, uncontrollable multiplayer environment. |

Core mechanics should always come first.
Hit detection, lag/latency, algorithms, command response (not having to hit your reload button 4x just to get your gun to start reloading), and match making.
Everything else simply doesn't matter. People want games that work. CoD4, Unreal Tournament, MW2, and soon to be Titanfall are huge success and have the longest after release playerbase than any other game in their genre... because they WORK. |
