A little irritated with one of my occasional forays into the Ambush gamemode, I decided to see if many ambushes were like the one I'd just played. So I fitted up a dampened scout, hid back a bit, and watched through a scope.
Match 1: Full squad on my team. Mostly using protogear, two were using GEK-38s but were in protosuits. Other team populated with NPC corps and various randoms, no squads. Won 74 - 00.
Match 2: Two full squads on my team. Couldn't tell if an entire squad was using proto but there was a lot of it. Other team mostly NPCs and randoms, no squads. Won 76 - 00.
Match 3: Full squad on enemy team - mostly proto. Squad of three on my team from a corp I'd never heard of. Lost 00 - 67
Match 4: Full squad on enemy team - did not see non-proto players from that squad. My team composed of randoms, no squads. Lost 00 - 70.
Match 5: Full squad on enemy team - mostly proto. Witnessed one of the most disgusting matches I've ever seen - the entire squad was using scrambler rifles and clearly using the bypass-overheat bug. Lost, didn't catch clone count.
This is pretty much why I don't play ambush. A few things to note:
1. The spawn system is god awful. Several times I saw people still spawning into a huge pack of enemies. This persisted for some time every time it happened, leading to lots of spawn killing. Typically the spawn shifted once or twice once every last dot was exterminated.
2. Matchmaking is horrendous. It's an insult to call it 'matchmaking', frankly.
3. The scrambler rifle glitch is ridiculous. It's in fairly wide-spread usage now, and it shows.
Honestly, if I was a new player and my first few matches were consistently like that? I'd be out. Wouldn't look back.

Pretty sure they turned off matchmaking a day after they implemented it due to issues with 5-10 minute wait times. There just isnt enough players to give matchmaking a chance, tiercide or lonewolf matchmaking is the only way. |

Why are so many people under the impression that matchmaking even exists in this game?
We have no matchmaking whatsoever. And no Scotty does not count.
He does a really bad job

There is one other problem with Ambush and that is that Spawn Uplinks cause the Smart Deploy to lock to them. There is also the part where some fool always drops uplinks the instant he spawns, resulting in this happening. You want your team to lose an ambush drop uplinks the instant you spawn.

The lack of players couldn't possibly be related to how ridiculously difficult it is to get into this game for a newbie due to the constant stomping, could it?

Yes, it's a joke. The only way to have matchmaking in this game is to do it yourself. There's a "Leave Game" function. Use it. CCP refuses to do anything about Public Contract matchmaking by taking the necessary steps to help the newer players. \
Meta level restricted contracts or a solo queue contracts were needed and were heavily petitioned to CCP before their supposed "Improved matchmaking" was implemented. They ignored us and we're still left with the most atrocious matchmaking of any FPS I've ever played.
They refused to implement those because of the small player base and they didn't want to segregate it any further, but without them, player retention is pathetically low. "Friends don't let friends play Dust." I like it and I have tried introducing several friends to Dust, but every single one of them hate it and I refuse to even attempt it anymore until CCP takes their head out of their ass and takes the necessary steps to correct their mistakes. |

Issue with leaving match is that so many battles are exactly like this across all game modes.
Trying to find a competitive match is insanely difficult. You just have to hope you end up on the side doing the stomping if you want any SP at all. |

Try keeping a bunch of new players from quitting when your on the side that's getting stomped into oblivion.....it's really hard to get then to come back after the 3rd round of being drilled into the ground.

What bothers is that a squad of proto on the other side can negate any kind of skill what-so -ever (no idea) because there are rarely any people good enough to fight 6 guys with good gear at the same time and when those people show up (Khemlar Makthar) they get showered by cores.

That's the sad truth. I solo a lot. I probably solo a good 70% of my games with less than 5% of my total games being with a squad of 4 or more. It is difficult to find a match that isn't going to be a complete stomp, though not impossible. The key is when leaving a game, NEVER choose the same game mode immediately afterwards.
I play Skirmish, Domination, and fight for Amarr/Caladri FW. If one's imbalanced, I leave and move to the next one. If by some strange and cruel fate that all 4 in a row are bad matches, I reluctantly turn Dust off until later and go do something else. It is far from perfect, but it keeps you from hating it. If anything, you just get bored of the game hopping and just go do something else. Boredom > Hatred, so it keeps me sane and is far healthier for my interest in Dust. It just sucks that I have to resort to this, but it is the only way. |
