Gallante use hyper accelerated plasma, they could use a hammer, but its a low tech solution.

Take off the pneumatic pistons that keep your arm from breaking, the arm guard and the lever action (which doesn't load another round by the way it loads coolant to keep it from ****ing exploding from the awesome forces) and it's literally just a handle with a particle accelerator on it o_o;;;;
