A self stabilizing ability was added to the Militia dropships to return them to a stable state when you let go of the controls. This would make taking off without crashing easier for new pilots, but it makes landing harder.
I am not a very experienced pilot, but I did a bit of flying before this change, and have done a bit of flying since. Before you could tilt forward, or to the side to fall in a specific direction, and then balance your thrust to maintain your altitude in order to drift in the direction you wanted to go. This controlled drift made it much easier to line up for a landing on top of a building. As you approached, you would do the revers manoeuver to slow you down so that you would come to a stop above where you wanted to land, then ease off the thrust and set her down.
With the stabilizer you can get the drift going, but you have to keep fighting the stabilizer to get going at a decent rate, and then as you approach your destination it is hard to judge how much you have to correct to counter your movement. Plus you are fighting the stabilizer which wants you to remain level, drifting for ever in the same direction. It means you have to be making constant corrections to keep your ship from leveling off, which is much harder than just setting up a stable accelerating and then decelerating drift.
All in all I think the stabilizer may be helpful in the first couple minutes a new pilotGÇÖs flying career, while they learn to get it off the ground, but it very quickly becomes a liability.
I would also like to learn how to fly a real dropship at milita dropship prices. Now to get a feel for flying a real dropship I will have to buy Standard dropships, and considering I tend to lose 3 dropships a match when no one is shooting at me, that could be expensive.

I never let go of the flight stick, good way to get shot by anti aircraft. |

Does the Militia Dropship never change its orientation on its own when you are manoeuvring? Do you support the change? Are you in favour of the Militia Dropship having different flight characteristics than all higher level dropships? Do you think the self levelling is a good thing for new pilots?

I basically agree w/ OP - I use MLT dropships frequently (as elevators), and I've gotten pretty comfortable with them. The auto-leveling is a hindrance, but a minor one. I'd be all for assigning that functionality to a button...isn't there an unimplemented "bay door" control that could be repurposed?
RDVs are a failed experiment - can't we just remove them from the game?

It's hard to land them the old way, but I don't have issues with landing them.
Madness is the emergency exit. You can just step outside, and close the door on all those dreadful things that happened.

Perhaps a way to toggle it off in the flight controls menu?

Agree. Remove the training wheels. Don't turn dropships into disposable free-rides for anti-social snipers who want to get zip around the map without communicating with their team.
Besides that, there's no need for it. Flying is not that hard, take some time getting the feel for it and landing/hovering is not a problem.
Who cares what some sniper has to say

I like the concept, but would prefer to press a button to level out instead of having it happen all the time.
I think of it like this:
* Training wheels are good for absolute noobs but hinder experienced people * landing gear, on the other hand, is a useful thing for a pilot, but only when the pilot has control of when to enable it.

I like the autostabilization feature but I would like it much better if it were mapped to a button (like the currently unused square button). As I understand they square button will probably be used in the future for a reload button - but I'd prefer vehicles to operate under 'smart reload' where whenever guns aren't firing for x amount of time they automatically attempt a reload. |
