I feel that resistance plates would finally be the module that brings armor tanking on par with shield tanking.

EM Resistant - Would be resistant against shield focused weapons (Amarr weapons and Gallente weapons)

Thermal Resistant - Would be resistant against weapons that deal thermal damage. So far I do not think any weapons deal thermal damage in DUST, but they could be arriving in the future.

Kinetic Resistant - Would be resistant against weapons that do kinetic damage (Minmatar weapons and Caldari weapons)

Explosive Resistant - Would finally protect your ass from the Mass Driver and Grenade spam

If these are ever implemented, at long last we would see armor tanking as being a viable tanking method for players. Unfortunately brick tanking (simply stacking a ton of armor plates) is not truly viable. Brick tanking slows one down too much due to their speed penalties, and does not protect the user from any specific damage type. Rep tanking is also not viable in DUST unless you're a logi. With the built in complex repair module in a logi suit, only then can you get usable repair values on a dropsuit. A logi running complex repair modules can get in the 20's of HP/S armor regen. On an assault suit the most you can get is around 5 - 15 HP/S and that is by sacrificing plates.

If resistance plates are brought into fruition, I feel that armor tanking will finally enter a golden era.

Right now, shield tanking and armour tanking are bad. You have to duel tank now. Or armour tank with repairing nano hives.

+1 Because DUST needs to be more like the EVE FPS hybrid they promised and less like CoD in space like they're trying to do.

I swear if this game becomes anymore catered to idiots I'm out. I can stick with this game with poor mechanics and all the bugs but once it's confirmed they make this a casual shooter that doesn't require thinking then I'm ******* done with this ****.

CCP can simplify it for console idiots.

 1) Have the weapon types in the market
 2) Put a little picture icon of what type of damage it deals beside the weapon, for example put a little lightning bolt beside a SCR
 3) Have the resistance plate types in the market
 4) Have a little picture icon of what type of damage they are resistant against, for example an EM resistant plate would have a lightning bolt
 5) Players will now know what weapon does what and what plate to use to counter it.

You'll never be able to simplify things enough for console idiots. Reading is fundamental in figuring out how a game works and I can assure you these people are the types that skip cut-scenes and tutorials and then whine and blame the game when they have no clue what's going on.

DO console players really require that it be so simplified?

Last I checked Skyrim sold pretty well on consoles, so did Dark Souls, and they both have complicated systems, much more complicated than damage type resistances.

Hell just about any RPG has a ton of resistance types.

Skyrim was incredibly watered down compared to other Elder Scrolls games.

I.e. It was extremely simplified, play Morrowind (my fav) or redguard and see just how simple Skyrim is.

Hell, even Oblivion had more depth than Skyrim, not saying skyrim wasn't good. I'ts just adapted for the "New Generation" of yolo swagtards.

That just pains my soul. Something that makes sense and would add a new exciting layer to the game is "too much" for certain players that won't be able to wrap their head around the idea.

The idea is not complicated but I don't think that directly translates to fumed down or watered down.

Also skyrim was a joke, was it an RPG? No doubt but stupidly easy, it felt childish.

Demon's/Dark Souls was more complex and fitting was a integral piece to success but I would not go so far as to say that the resistance was difficult or complicated by any means. Also past NG++ in either game resistances were almost irrelevant as If you get hit, you die. Also keep in mind in these titles you can swap out gear any time, even in combat.. If you can survive.

If you added an ability to swap resistance on the fly it would make an interesting mechanic, but I could see it being very broken.

I mentioned this last week about introducing the shield and armor resistances of the eve ships onto drop suits in order to balance weapons. it would allow for a lot more balance as suits can be tailored for strengths and weaknesses. assaults could have higher resists to give them benefit over the logis and it would fix the whole issue of how much damage lasers are doing to armor. shield tankers could add em resist to help agianst lasers and armor tankers can use an exp resist to help with nade spam. its a pretty simple solution to a lot of issues where weapons are concerned

YESH. YESH ALL THE WAY MAN. I LOVE YOU FOR SUGGESTING THIS.

i mean, yeah i like this

But you should actually put this in the suggestion section instead of pushing it here, I believe they actually look at those and stuff.

But yeah, this would elevate the TTK somewhat for one and it would also mean that we would actually have suits more tailored for certain defense against weapons.

I've wanted separate resistances for Armor and Shields since Closed Beta.

All of the dropsuits and vehicles should have resistances just like the ships in Eve, then they could give us ammo as a weapon mod so that we could tailor our DPS output.

The math-illiterate scrubs would cry so much, I'd probably die laughing.
