Scanners should only be able to pick up heavies and assaults that don't want to sacrifice armor.. |

Ok...so what was your position when squad view was enabled? Did you want that removed?
Absolutely no reason to remove scanners...they do exactly what CCP wanted them to: support team play and create more complex tactical problems. That said, I do think there should be a little better parity between dampeners and scanners. |

Imagine DUST without knowing where everyone was all the time. Imagine scanner's only picking up 30-50% of the people. Imagine if there was a massive delay between scanning and them actually showing up.
DUST would be a better place if there was some mystery... The fact that everyone has to carry a scanner to be competitive is.. Broken. This can't be what CCP intended.

I was wondering if the scan itself should be instant (so you can't rotate while scanning) but the scan results processing should take the length of time the scanning itself does now, so you see the results at about the same time.

They should give us 'zones' where probably someone is sneaking, or where something very noisy disrupts way how Remote Scanner works (giant nuclear plant, base ventilator, or air filtration system). We should have a maps where the use of Remote Scanner is pointless, same as being sniper in urban area with plenty of high walls, buildings and bunkers.
We already have maps where RHAV can not cover whole map..

At the very least, there need to be more checks between the varying tiers and variants of the scanners.
- The CPU/PG usage of basic scanners could use a slight decrease, while prototype scanners should have a small increase. - Quantum and Flux scanners should have an increase to their precision and a nerf to another one of their non-advantageous attributes, to balance with their duration/range advantage. - The Focused scanner should have either a slight increase to it's precision, or a moderate decrease to its range and duration.
I think these small changes alone would be enough to make scanners more of a tactical decision, rather than a necessity. Quantum scanners have an absurdly long scan duration, with almost no drawbacks, allowing one scanner to keep an area lit constantly, even if they need to respawn. If the overall precision of Flux and Quantum scanners was increased, it would make it a bit more viable for medium frames to avoid lower tier scans. Prototype scanners cannot be avoided in any fashion without dampeners, even on a scout, that would be fine if it weren't ALL prototype scanners. A precision increase to Flux and Quantum scanners would add some checks to that. The Focused scanner is insanely precise, the only way to avoid it being a scout Gk.0 with 4 profile dampeners and the skill at lv5, but it still has a range of 100m and a duration of 5s. If the range were reduced to 50m, or the precision was increased slightly, it would be a much more specialized scanner. |

NO they light up people like a christmas tree.
They allow proto squads to hunt new players down whilst the new players have NOWHERE TO HIDE.
This is how it should be done. Players only appear on your minmap for a certain amount of time if they are moving at a certain speed of creating a certain amount of noise. You then have a passive skill which increases the amount of time people are on your minmap for (a la MAG).
Scanners enable people to proto-stomp more efficiently, they are a detriment to this game, they are anto-tactical. They give one side an unfair advantage.

Dampeners is the dumbest addition to this game I have EVER seen.
Waste thousands of SP and forego armour just so you can avoid some scrub spinning 360 degrees with a scanner?
Why should I have to grind and completely change playstyle and HP just to combat something like that?
Armour is even more vital in this game now because everybody and their dog uses a scrambler rifle and the TTK is so short.
