We all know ammunition for weapons is resupplied by nanites... but what if instead of ammunition stores all dropsuits had nanite stores?
Imagine a bar to the bottom left of where your ammunition is usually displayed, labelled Nanites. It could also have a percentage bar next to it indicating precisely how full it is.
This bar is not only your max ammunition supply, but your maximum sidearm and grenade ammunition supply too.
Essentially today you load in with maximum ammunition for all your weapons and grenades, and deplete them as time goes on, and restock at depots or nanohives. What I'm proposing with this idea is a dynamic maximum ammunition system where a weapon's maximum ammunition is determined by a player.
When this is implemented, you load in with a maximum nanite supply, 1 clip on all your weapons, and 1 of your chosen grenade.
Once you've depleted a clip, your suit automatically draws nanites from the supply to replenish 1 clip, or a grenade. Nanite supplies are independent of weapons and are dependent on dropsuits and special skills/modules.
A lot of the clutter with the event indication (GEK-38 AR + 30, Locus Grenade +1, SMG + 50) can be reduced to a simple (Nanite Resupply +40), and once nanites are supplied the user's weapons can be reloaded.
Furthermore, this is unique. Different to other FPS systems, and opens up possibilities for more dynamic gameplay. Using grenades essentially eats away at your AR ammunition, because all your ammunition comes from the same supply of nanites. Conserving nanites means using ALL weapons sparingly, not like now where spraying the SMG scares off people to reload the AR.
Modules can be included to increase nanite store, and individual modules can extend the clip size or number of clips for weapons.
Skills such as Ammo Capacity can be changed to Nanite Efficiency, where a weapon draws less nanites to resupply a bullet.
Ideas, thoughts, additions welcome. I will be monitoring this thread and editing it because I think it's an idea worth pursuing. Just had to put this rough idea down first so I don't forget it.

This is nice and all, but it doesn't make sense for weapons that don't use physical ammo.

Aren't all weapons resupplied by nanohives?

Aren't all weapons resupplied by nanohives? I always figured nanohive had some sort of generator to charge the magazines before you get them. I suppose your suit could do the same. I would rather see Lasers get unlimited ammo, but their focus crystals get damaged when you overheat, so you need to replace it. You can only carry so many crystals obviously.

This is a pretty good idea The only problem i see is that someone could spam 5-6 grenades and blast away all the competition in exchange of using up their ammo. I know theyre not suppposed to do that but it would still happen.
Instead we would need to keep a cap on grenades. |

I'm pretty sure the nanites wouldn't be consumed when making new ammo. They're the machines that manufacture it, not the raw materials. |

Hmm... Didn't know that. So nanite swarms construct ammunition... But aren't they themselves consumed in the process? Wouldn't nanohives be infinite otherwise? I mean, where is the raw material coming from?
