I first started reading the eve forums about market trading, imagining all the going ons in the sector back in 2008. I aspired to that goal and waited after I heard of dust in 2009. I played eve this summer I took up being a courier for the salvage market in eve and help make my employer billions in profit within a week. When trading and manufacturing come around I look forward to sitting in station all day tapping my foot while I buy low and sell high.

I came from this game so player freedom, persistence and the butterfly effect. is something I love, DUST looked like a complex game with loads of ways to do things that would have an impact on the universe, that's why I started. I only stayed when I found out this wasn't happening any time soon because of Seraphim and when they finished (and a fair amount turned out to be massive cunts) I stopped :)

mmo, freedom like in PlanetSide 2, connection to EVE, reality that EVE universe gives (everything has it price, nothing comes from thin air, no insta-travel/teleport etc.), non violent ways to play game (manufacturing, traveling, salvaging etc.) empire building, not a lobby shooter, skills, sandbox, every planet is different with over 500 maps overall, future.

Another Fommer? <3 It recently finished a kickstarter campaign (actually hit its targets) for an expansion called Fall of the Dominion, should check out the ideas for it, Marko came back and is working with Oblvious so it should be cool, that said would not recommend playing atm, until FotD, due to like 10 players per faction online atm.

I have always loved the idea of a combined arms game with a impact in the game's virtual world from each battle and interaction, and I fricking love scifi, so even though it took till Sep. 2012 to get into this game, it has been worth it as it has more than delivered on my desires. Issues are there but the game itself doesn't have any competition for what I want. I'm here for the long haul |

The EVE connection is the hands down reason. I didn't play EVE at the time i downloaded the game but knew the reputation of the universe and the incredible player driven activities and being a part of that from a totally different perspective (the ground) would be epic. I figured bringing that to an FPS would be groundbreaking and provide a long term game that I could watch grow and develop....as frustrating as it can be sometimes I think I'm getting just that. |

The concept was brilliant .. combined all my love of MMO's and my love of FPS games ... the stuff CCP talked about sounded amazing .. i was super psyched about this game
I've always understood that this game is in development which is fine but poor matchmaking is really really affecting my enjoyment of the game .. it makes me not want to play it and not stick around ..
In all honesty if matchmaking was fixed . alot of the current QQing would die down .. if games are balanced and fun players are forgiving to slight flaws in content / gamemodes

They called the game a spiritual successor of MAG.
It has the elements, I think we are in "Beta" still and when everything is polished it can do a full release blitz on the PS4 with advertisements and commercials.
Perhaps offer a merc pack that allocates 10 million SP to a new user. So the COD cry hards can at least be competitive by speccing into the known fotm suit. The game is TOO BRUTAL on new players, they need a starter crutch.

I seem to remember something about persistent open world MMOFPS PvP.
Between that and the whole spiritual successor to MAG thing is what really got me interested. I was looking forward to PMCs that actually behaved like PMCs, a deep and rich player market interface, being able to have a home base map that is more than just a battlefield accessible only through a lobby.

The connection (and ramblings about other games that came before dust):
When I was a younger man, I looked at my consoles, and wondered why there was no connection between the same game on different consoles. I always thought it would be a cool idea to have them interlinked. Where as you can play online with a ps3 and an xbox, against people from both consoles. I was younger then and didn't fully understand why this wasn't possible.
I've known about EvE since 2005, and thought it was a very awesome game idea. Then I played it, and realized I wouldn't be doing anything fun anytime soon. So I stuck with WoW and forgot about EvE. But to me, EvE was still an awesome idea, it just wasn't the sort of game I wanted to play. I want instant gratification from my play time.
WoW gave me that, large open world to explore. Perks and character development. Lots of extra stuff to do, professions, quests, ect. WoW, in it's early stages, was incredible. More so for a person that played the original warcraft games. Not to mention I'm really big into RPGs, or was I should say.
CCP should like this one though. WoW has died to many, because they made it fluffy. They wanted it easily accessible by everyone, so they dumb down mechanics, choices, ect. Anyways, that was mainly the only game I played back then.
Until Call of Duty Modern Warfare came out. Going to say it, awesome game. The weapons were familiar with our time, the gameplay was brisk, and spot on with a shooter. Plenty of customization choices, lots of weapons, perks to specialize in a given role, killstreaks. So in some ways, it felt like that RPG I was used to. Minus one thing I was cool with. Quick kills
Many here hate the fact that any "Scrub" can point the gun and insta murder you. But that was the point of the game, in real life, you don't eat a whole AR clip and live. What kept you alive were your tactics and map knowledge. Nowadays though, I will say the game lost all appeal with me.
But the game made me love shooters like I never did before. Now I had heard of mag and battlefield and all that. Never once wanted to play them. Though as you get older, you get busier, and have less and less free time, or will for that matter, to play. So some quick gratification, like top of the leaderboards, was nice when time was limited.
The Answer: But when I heard about Dust 514, I said holy **** ****. That's quite possibly the awesomest idea I have ever heard of. The connection that was described, in what I read and from the trailers I watched, was incredible. I immediately thought, this is my game. This is what I have been looking for.
Knowing about EvE a little, the industry, the wars, the complexity, I knew that potential was all there for the worlds greatest MMO FPS. This was early in beta, and my PS3 always had problems connecting with server so I decided to wait until official release.
In the meantime though, I had thought to play EvE to ready myself for the connection. I made a char, fully focused on mining and industry. I wanted to be ready to support my merc with my EvE pilot. The nostalgia of EvE though began to wear off, as I discovered how incredibly boring mining was. But I thought, hey this will be bearable when I can start making things or money for my dust merc. I got 2 accounts, practiced mining and hauling at the same time. Boring. This is why I like to call EvE a scifi simulator, 30 minutes( back then it was, now I'm at 18mins) starring at a space rock as I wait for my hull to fill.
Fortunately, Dust Officially released when I had lost nearly all interest in EvE. Man was I excited as that thing downloaded. Loaded it up for the first time, and everything seemed magical. Spent a good deal of time looking through the skills, but I hardly had a clue as to where to start. So I play a few games, get stomped on. I knew then that I wasn't going to be doing any good until I spent some points.
4 mil misplaced points later, I'm still horrible. Didn't like infantry and wanted to do me some tanking. So I start a new char, and this time am very careful with my points. This though is when I begin asking and looking around for that connection with EvE.
I had already noticed that the market was an NPC market. Also I noticed there was no real way to interact with EvE in a way that you yourself felt. Eventually, I learn the truth. The only connection that I see, is the one to tranquility. Beyond that, there is nothing. No dust side industry, wars, PvE. No way to control, or even see the universe around you. Planets are all the same, dusty. I can't help but say that this was a major let down. But the game was still fun as I was learning to tank.
Then I learn about the imbalances and lack of content. And I actually feel that imbalance in my gunnlogi when stacked against a maddie. 6 months later, we are still here at the start. Game mechanics and balance issues have always been first, which is cool but when you read patch notes that barely fill a quarter of my screen you kinda wonder.
Will that which inspired me to play the game, ever come to light? Because now I'm losing my will and love for the game.
Luckily, I always have civilization 5.

Back in 2010 I tried EVE and really enjoyed it but I couldn't afford the subscription. Around that time they'd just announced Dust and I thought I'd follow it and see if I could still be a part of New Eden and all the fun that comes from its politics. But I forgot about it like an idiot until I saw it in the PS store in may.

Saw a game poster long time ago at GAME or GameStop (dont remember which one), at that time I though 'Dust 514, that sounds cool' and the poster looked really awesome. I was just walking by and saw the poster.
My PS3 was shelved in my storage room at the time, but I decided to read up on what this game was all about. Starting up playing with the controller (with no RL skills in controller). Not a good experience for me. Then I took a little break and after some time, I figured out that I could just plug in my gaming mouse and keyboard into my PS3. This is when the game really opened up for me.
The skill system got me hooked for theorycrafting from day 1, even though I am a pretty casual player I can just play the game through thinking out new fits while on the bus from work, or spending some time at my PC doing the meta game ;)
TL;DR Game concept was/is AWESOME. Best skill system in an FPS ever made (IMO). Balance between hardcore, core and casual players.

Setting and unique nature of being on PS3. I'm big into sci-fi settings, and I love the idea of fighting on strange and foreign planets. Thought the idea of using unique and futuristic vehicles would be fun and unfamiliar. Ended up having a Gallante Blaster in my hands since Closed Beta thanks to lack of variety and unique weaponry.
Needless to say the game's scope was on an incredibly tight leash, and I've spent a lot of my time being bored and uninspired by the setting itself.

Message from Godin: Being in New Eden on the surface of planets. I'm also want to play Valkyrie (but **** the Oculus Rift) when it starts up. Yes, I haven't forgot about it. Especially if it allows for the actual bridge from EVE to Dust (IE: sending mercs into a station to capture it from a Cap's ship, or vice versa. Or even dropping them off into some kind of site and give them fire support. Hell, they could even be a kind of OB.) I hope that game becomes another great game in the world in New Eden (yes, I think Dust is great. I understand that there's lots of problems with it, but they're trying to fix them, so I guess it's okay.). |

it's sort of a funny story actually.
I was super hyped for the PS vita launch (I have since sold the Vita) but I was looking at it's line up for good games that I wanted. killzone mercenary, call of duty, resistance, escape plan, it looked great. you remember the vita app that to my knowledge never happened? It's not often brought up so I'll refresh your memory. there was supposed to be a vita neocom app for the market and chat channels fittings ect. so you could access them anywhere, you couldn't play the game though. anyway not knowing what the app was I looked it up learned about the game and fell in love with it. the market, fittings, owning a piece of space. I signed up for the closed beta, started reading the dev blogs, both of them. in august or september I got my invite, it was before corporations were in place so, a false promise got me into the game, go fricken figure.
while I don't have my original beta invite anymore :( I did find this gem the other day, hiding in a throwaway inbox. so... if anyone needs an unused closed beta code there it is.

I'm an EVE player who bought a PS3 just to play this game. It's been a rough ride, but I'd do it again without a doubt. I truly believe that this game can become the best FPS ever made. The SP system, depth of character growth, endless fits, tons of potential with vehicles, the RISK vs. ISK, there is so much more right with this game than wrong with it. I see it improving every patch (well the TTK is an exception, but I have faith it will get fixed).

The idea of dust. I always thought the future of gaming would be massive space and land battles in a huge galaxy of opportunity. The eve connection is a milestone for games. I like the eve universe and its endless possibilities that could impact the whole universe is the most meaningful cause to fight I've had in a video game, causing trouble on planets sounds like fun to me! That and a story, everyone has stories that effect new eden, Im tiered of playing games where the sole purpose is to kill to look different. Also ccp doing dropships gave me hope that they would get them done right. I know it will take them a while, but that's how ccp works, and so far they have made a fun, painful, exciting, heart racing head slamming, thrill ride of an experience. |

What inspired you?
The original 2009 Trailer which depicted large scale cinematic conflicts, a sense of locality being important, and a battlefield that looked suitably grim and corporate due to the Carbon engine.
I lament what dust used to be in that trailer.

Because it was a FPS Game that I hadn't played yet.
My psn is Demon Ronin. not bob the builder. There is only one thing I can bring to eve (if it was fully integrated) Destruction. |
