Wow you really are the worst CPM ever... dude seriously go home.
Anyway, down to it: here's a little statistics for our genius CPM based on weekly peaks:

Statistics 101 is ---------------------------------------------> that way Lol! You do realize the math adds up right? So if we take into account all the new players: Current week active players - first week active players SHOULD EQUAL: First week active players + all or at least a small portion of new players since First week. Instead what we see is: Current week active players < First week active players + ALL new players since first week. Or better described as, players are quitting faster than they are joining. Ok, since it's a Friday and I'm feeling too lazy to work:
The numbers you quote do not indicate active players. They show player counts online at a given time. That means, on the assumption that there is overlap between different players playing at different times, and that average play time is 2-4 hours a day, you'd be looking at an active total playercount much higher than the quote 3000-4000.
Next, you have the X number of new characters created. The new characters created could either be old players creating alts, or new players creating accounts and creating characters. Therefore a more accurate indicator would be new accounts created, which unfortunately we don't have the numbers for. This is not to say that even if we had this number, we could derive anything from it, since it's hard to track how many unique new players there are as opposed to an old player creating an alt account. Even if we assume all new characters created are unique new players, you have to factor in that they will not ALL be playing at the same time, and at the peak time at that. Therefore, even if you have 800 new characters created in a day, you would probably only see a bump of an additional 20-30 players on at a given time.
This isn't to say that Dust isn't losing subscribers. But it's not losing it at the hyperbolic Dust-Is-Dead/Dying rate you're prescribing in both this thread (backed up by ****** maths due to lack of understanding graphs) or the other thread you started (also backed by ****** maths). CCP has, in the past and present, acknowledged that new player retention is a key problem. They also, however, understand that there is always that core base of players to whom the game appeals to. The key to their success is improving new player retention, either through making the game more newbie friendly or decreasing the 'difficulty'/complexity, while at the same time not alienating their existing playerbase by driving down the complexity and systems that drew them in the first place. I would say this balancing act isn't as simple as you think it is.
You're welcome for the maths lessons and reading comprehension lessons. Next time, maybe you'll be able to understand what you're looking at when you look at a graph.
I do, however, have a question for you. Given your earlier post about deleting Dust from your PS3 (referring to your post on 22nd November), why are you still posting rubbish maths on a video game forum when you' (1) are no longer playing the game; (2) do not have the game installed anyway; and (3) claim that the game is dying?
Just wanted to understand the reasoning behind this kind of irrational behaviour, since I'm basing it off what I would do and my own line of reasoning, where if something no longer interests me (like many of the games out there), I couldn't care less what happens to it and would not bother posting anything, constructive or not, on said games' forums.
Give me some help here, since I don't understand why someone who isn't interested in a game anymore would still continue making shitposts on the forums a WEEK after the game has been deleted. |

Slick Saan wrote:It should also be noted that the stats here are REALLY generous. The stats only include new players of that ONE day... Not all week long. The numbers would be much worse if all 7 days in the week were counted. Free lesson on understanding numbers and what they mean 1 post above this. |

Slick Saan wrote:The point is, with 800 or so new players a DAY for a week, in one weeks time you should at least see the active players in a given day (the weekly peak) increase by 30-20, but we see that it decreases most weeks. You can hover you mouse over the little spikes in the graphs to see the player counts.
Quote:Using the word "maths" makes me question your credibility on this subject. "Maths", as in a commonly used abbreviation of the word "mathematics", which encompasses various disciplines (?) such as, for example, statistics. So sue me, I only studied 'maths' up to A-levels.
Quote:Because the game was good once. My favorite in fact, even with all the bugs. Then they started showing sloppy development habits (coding hacks and then forgetting to remove the hacks once they fix the real issues) and just like that, 1.6 HD fixes meant if I wanted to stay on the top of the charts I'd have to proto. So you are complaining about TTK and protostomping at the same time?
Quote:Plain and simple. If CCP ever comes out with a fix to this ****** TTK issue, I would be the first to re-download and start up again. My posts are a pissed way of saying, "CCP get your **** together!" So that we can reclaim maybe just SOME of the people who have left for the same reasons. I deleted it because I was sick of getting frustrated at getting killed just for being seen, even though I was still top three spots on the team. But I am hopeful that CCP will at some point realize how frustrating they've made their game and that they are in fact losing players over it.
People who don't care, don't hate. So you deleted the game from your PS3 in a fit of rage, even though in likelihood you will one day re-download the game if/when it gets better and the issues get fixed? Get a grip on emotions maybe?
I like how you avoided the rest of my post where you couldn't come up with an argument for. Good job. |
