The aiming mechanics in games where you would train your aim would gimp you in DUST.
Aiming in DUST is about as consistent as a promise being kept by CCP Shanghai.. Which makes it hard to take a consistent aiming game and transfer that ability over to DUST.
DUST makes me worse at other games because of this.
Edit* CS-GO is worth a peak for aiming on the ps3. |

I am downloading CS 1.6 right now. :( Dust was my first FPS so I didn't notice any wonky mechanics, until Uprising ruined me.
Most people in Counter-strike have had one sensitivity for 5-10 years... if not longer.. it is the very definition of a consistent aiming platform..
They will change and or mess with analog/mouse sensitivity in DUST every patch. seriously can go on forever... |

I haven't played another shooter since Dust but I'm fairly sure my tactical analysis has shot up since playing.
Situational awareness... in DUST is probably the least usefull skill i've translated over to DUST from other FPS's. You don't have to plan/guess enemy movement's you don't have to guess enemy positions... there is no Prone, duck... cover mechanics... Camping players are countered with a scanner.. Everyone in DUST uses a MOB mentality cuz of the new TTK, cowardice and ignorance so it's rare to get flanked or surrounded.
About the only major situational awarerness used in DUST.. is vehicle positions, sniper's...where the other team is. And who your fighting on the other team and their capabilities. Otherwise we have modules that do all the other stuff we have to do in other FPS's.
Edit* When every player could see everyone... There was 200 times more Tactical nature to this game... it was like chess and everyone could see the board... it was amazing... Scanners are a neat idea... but thats about where my praise stops. |

Maybe it's just an indication of how much I suck at FPS games, but Dust has improved my gun game considerably in Halo, and I did rather well in local games of Ghosts against my son.
Halo has bullet magnetism so your bullets will curve in the air to hit the target... and CoD used for an example to anything AIM related.... hurt's my brain... |

Cause I'm not sure how well AK shots transfer to Dust. Download APB Reloaded, grab a Scout Sniper rifle, use it as a shotgun in cqc, then lose 50% - 70% of that well trained aim again when you try Dust again.... Dust screwed with my Muscle memory patch after patch after patch ....until i had literally none left...then they released Uprising and put my Muscle Memory under their boot, cocked the shotgun and offed it .... I still can't aim a damn on this game.....but yeah go for APB R and a Scout Sniper if you want to build aim....after a while you might even aim like me in my Accuracy movie :p GL o7 I doubt about aiming as good as you but thanks. I am starting to notice that some guys can just outsrafe my aim and it feels humiliating :) Its still in the hitdetection / drop of framerates and or lag when you absolutely will not hit your opponent, even if your reticule is dead center over his chest ... Happens quite allot, guy strafes from around the corner, aim like a boss, dead center chest, squeeze trigger, Everything misses, except the round that missed gave a hit marker ....aaand you die ... On other occasions when the framerates drop to sub 10 FPS, its impossible to track your target...ive been at this game for 10 months now and i still miss shots in a game where the strafing speed is allot slower then in APB R. Gave up on them fixing it and ill just take the good days with the bad days i guess...but if i went back to APB R right now and record a new movie, i guess idd be hilarious :p (in a bad way)
This happens frequently, You'll hit every shot perfect and then all of a sudden with that last sliver of health they have left... they are invisible no matter how many sound effect's you get in your ear telling you that your bullet's are hitting.
Most player's don't know what or who is the cause of this and often blame their own aiming inadequacies. After a decade in FPS's and getting a consistent result it sticks out pretty clearly to others.. specially when it will replicate sometimes several times in a match.
The frame rate drop's hurt me more then almost anything because it's been a solid staple to a competitive edge with First person shooter gaming.. Is having the max frame rate solid even through the most grueling fire fights, often reducing resolution to rediculous level's to achieve this in early years..
Well even players do that now on DUST reduce resolution below HD to achieve a more stable frame rate. |

So what current console game has the best bullet physics? Those are the only games I have to compare Dust to.
CS is a good game to look at... there are thing's you learn there that will translate to every FPS. There is a Gamer "God" that gives good video's on some of the technique's used.
