You can circle the Earth 7 times a second at the speed of light. I'm not sure how that's a problem.

Just the bottom line that for order for this to work very optimally, you need everything on the fiber.
Also things about the fibers.
Light degrades over a period of time requiring repeaters.
Photonic circuits (on boards) are also not a thing yet and would need to be able to boost the signal given to them.
Fibers are also restricted to how many beams you can barrel down own at a time. Currently with multiplexing we can send a 'rainbow' of lights down the fiber about 10 ish is the current standard

Aye call of duty is pretty nasy about this,
I was strafing for about 2 seconds after clearing out a previous guy and still looking for the next quarry.
Guy pops around corner kills me in 0.2 seconds.
Kill cam pops up.
According to his story
I was standing still
he stared at me for a good 3 seconds before he decided I needed to die.

Additionally software protocol are going to be a bish.
Typical Server conversation:
Server A>I want to talk
Server B>I am ready ready to listen
Server A>Okay ready to talk.
Server B>Listening
Server A> Talking "BLAARG"
Server B>I heard that you said BLAAARG
Server A>Correct I did say BLAARG,
Server B>Im Glad I am correct
Server A>I dont want to talk anymore
Server B> Okay good bye.
and if this conversation doesnt happen this way, BAD THINGS VERY BAD THINGS HAPPEN.
Oh and that's just the simple greeting.
Imagine going down your entire neighborhood knocking on doors looking for a 'John Smith' that you knows to live in your neighborhood but you don't have his address specifically.
