it some how feels appropriate that I'm writing this with exactly 666 likes.
however before I get in into the meat of the matter I would like to say that this isn't a QQ thread... mostly. it is a sumation of ideas thoughts and insights I have gathered from around the forums. normally I would submit any Idea to GD for peer discussion and crowd sourcing before making any decision to put a request tag on it. however i think this Idea has been thrown up often enough an I have read enough threads about it to make an informed request.
while I realize that many of you have strong opinions about the matter at hand I urge you to be level headed and open minded to others opinions. if you have a problem with another player or group please take it to the war room. if you have a problem with me, save yourself the time and don't bother taking it to the war room I won't read it. simply don't post. if the problem is with my logic or the logic of another player please do post!
CHAPTER 1,
vehicle sp refund
in case you haven't read it there is a new vehicle devblog up detailing the transition to new vehicles. in it, it is stated that all vehicles, modules, skill books, and and sp, used by vehicles that are being altered will be refunded to the player in full. this is a great way of going about it and ensures that only what needs to change will theoretically everyone who isn't a pilot will notice nothing, the pilots will skill back into their vehicles and the world will spin on like nothing happened. I'm sure a number of pilots will do exactly that. however there is one problem with that thought process. what about everyone who says screw vehicles, and skills or furthers their skilling in infantry?
there are many others like me who like to pilot and do it with some regularity but refuse to do a full spec because it isn't profitable or wasn't, hopefully 1.7 will fix that. we have a vehicle, it's nothing special a tank, a dropship, a lav, at most we 4 million SP sunk into it. that was fine up til now, in fact it was pretty good for running as a secondary class. right now the skill tree is really really small, that is about to change in a big way. for a guy like me who has 2.5-3 mill invested why would I go back to a vehicle? my 3 mill won't go nearly as far so whats the point? sure I could do it and be 3 mill ahead of some newberry in the academy but I will get eaten over and over again and lose massive amounts of isk, that blows. no I'm gonna sink it into my infantry role. in my case it would be a springboard to get the kitten out of that kitten scout suit.
would this refund accomplish it's goal? I guess... the few dedicated tankers and dropship pilots with unhealthy amounts of sp in their fits would stay, but for the rest of us, probably not. it's just not efficient I could spend 3 mill perfecting my cores and getting a med frame, or I could get a crappy second hand half fit tank, the choice is pretty obvious.
CHAPTER 2,
this is what you signed up for
scouts, heavies, is this what you signed up for? have nerfs, buffs, aim assist, or hit detection alterations fundamentally altered the function of your suit? are you not what you used to be because of alterations to the game? most of you are probably thinking I'm happy in my god mode murder logi, the rest of us however are probably thinking, yeah my heavy is a slow med frame now, or yeah my scout is just a MLT med frame now. In my opinion the changes to the suits have been drastic enough to warrant a respec.
some of you would argue that your SP choices need to matter and have consequences. I agree, but how can they have consequences if your role is shifted and changed build to build. if i had known what would happen to the scout would I have skilled into it? no. simply no. adapt or die I suppose, but I just died a lot, pick up a black eagle and see if you can maintain a 1.3 KDR...
CHAPTER 3
guns, guns, guns,
the assault rifle was a forced choice for may of us who would have preferred a different race's variant that didn't exist at the time. while this isn't enough on it's own to warrant a respec it is worthy of a mention. the reasons above are a respec cake, this is just the icing while it doesn't hold on it's own when combined with the cake both improve greatly.
then again maybe for some of you icing does stand on it's own, I don't judge ... fatty.
