Part A:
"Next on the list are view distances, and the issues vehicles have been having with them. We have identified the cause of what we believe to be the major problem in this area and have made improvements to it. "
Part B: "There will still be some lag time between when you should see an enemy and when you do, as once he is in range it will take a moment to render him, by which point you will have traveled closer to him"
Part A seems to be saying that they fixed distance rendering, such that if I am flyting at range I will actually be able to see targets (infantry, turrets) whereas before they would only render at about 50 meters or less.
Part B seems to be saying that in order for things at any distance to render, like now, you will need to hover in place, still in the air, for a few moments before being able to see any targets at all while they update.
Is there any chance CCP will be able to fix the issue in part B soon? Flying in at turret range to attempt to kill an AV who's been harassing you, only to have to float there for 5 seconds before the guy renders, at which point you find out the chevron you were reference was also out of date, to the tune of 300 meters West. Then you take a few giant nukes to the side and die from the guy you thought you were overtop and waiting to appear....
That's a problem. |

Where did 5 seconds come from? And where did the need to stay still come from?
All I read into it is that if (for example) the render range is 50m, you are moving towards it at 10 m/s and the lag is 0.2s then you won't actually see him until you are at 48m because you'll have moved an extra 2m closer.

I'm a pilot
If I want to battle ground units at the moment I need to fly in very close, slow down, and stare at a point on the ground for up to 5 seconds before they render for me at all.
That's where it comes from.
Sure you could move in slower, and thus keep moving but it ends up being the same as zooming in and stopping. A slow moving DS is as easy to hit with forge/swarm as a stopped one. And the longer you take to reach an area, the longer they have time to setup and fire at me.
So, does that make sense or am I out of line? |

It seems like a short quick fix until more time can be dedicated to it and I hope this is NOT the final solution.
The blog seems to indicate that; yes it would benefit those that stopping to observe, zoom, or take aim would be able to see target eventually, how fast is eventually is anyone's guess but its more akin to scope focus/out of focus on very few rare games have in an attempt to give the game time to load information needed or requested by the operator/client.
The most disadvantage vehicle pilots would be unfortunately those getting shot by the forge gun, but unlike the swarms the big blue kamehah ball of death could help if it ever rendered in time which I am afraid the render time will be much sorter than that of a maxi or officer assault forge.
The issue will be continued to be pressed upon I promise until we are very satisfactory.

Ultimately not rendering at all is not a good alternative for the time being.
What about swarms range is being reduced? The lock on distance The missile travel distance or both? |

considering even AS infantry trying to render vehicles, infantry, turrets etc. is iffy at 200m, while from vehicles viewpoint rendering is EVEN WORSE, ill be glad just to have things render at all. so many times i've had to kill tanks or snipers that haven't even rendered while going off a red crosshair.
SERIOUSLY JUST MAKE **** RENDER- IDGAF IF ITS A LITTLE SLOW AS LONG AS IT DOES
BECAUSE WHEN IT DOESNT IT MAJORLY F CKS UP GAMEPLAY & BALANCE.

well, slow is also bad and too slow gets you the exact same problem. especially worse when you move a lot or fast |

The time it takes to load will prolly be very close to the time it takes the client to load a dropsuit or vehicle model it hasn't yet loaded in a session, so i'm thinking it's going to be dependent on your drive(e.g. HDD vs. SSD) and how much is going on on the screen at that moment.
Just a guessing but we're prolly looking at something like a fraction of a second to a second. My hybrid drive loads new models in a few tenths of a second as far as i can tell. SSD would be better than that.
I support SP rollover.

damage is being nerfed by 33%.

The lock on distance The missile travel distance or both? lock on distance 175 m..and no the swarm nerf is not overkill it seems spot on to me...to bad i wont be playing as there is no vehicle lock after 2 years...would love to drive around in my lav offering a fair fight to proto tankers..but sadly itll get stolen..sighs i dont understand you ccp..why fix anything to do with vehicles? without a vehicle lock all is meaningless |
