This is a documentation of my experiences moving into a scout suit. I never used a scout suit for more than shitz and gigglz, even in the closed beta, I was always Assault/Logi, so this is new for me. Hope you have fun reading this, and hope that CCP gets some information from here to help scouts.
Day - #1
So, the black eagle event was tons of fun for me. While I last less than a wet tissue paper, it was really fun to be speedy, sneak up on enemies, and with luck (and the blessing of the CCP gods) get a kill.
I decided to go full on scout. Now, as someone who was running a Gallente Assault/Logi with 600/800 eHP, and a bunch of damage mods, and being slower than average, I knew itGÇÖs going to be a difficult transition.
I was also heavy on ARGÇÖs and SCRGÇÖs, but decided to go shotgun instead. As for secondary, I wanted a challenge, so Nova Knives ahoy.
So, I figured the first order of business would be to choose a scout suit. I decided to go for the Gallente scout because: A. Gallente for life B. Slightly more tanky than Minnie (And IGÇÖm used to high HP values because armor, so..) C. Slower but stealthier, and has longer scan range through bonus (A must, considering base is 16m)
So, I got Gallente Light Frame III, and Gallente Scout I. (I didnGÇÖt have a lot of SP to spend, working on Gal Scout V)
I bought 200 Basic Scout suits (I expected to die a lot).... And then I realized I have a Dren scout >_> Fitted it with: Dren Shotty Syndicate SMG Enhanced Shield Extender Nanohive STD nades Complex Kin Cats Basic armor rep
I chose Skirmish for my first few matches. After getting a feel for the speed, I started hunting lone soldiers. Sometimes I was met with great success, insta killing them with a shotty or knives. Others I damaged them, they turned around, and blapped me.
After I got a feel for the scout suit and shotty, and I started doing more complex maneuvers. For example: Two people see me, one is trying to hunt me, the other is covering him from behind. I run around the corner, making it look like IGÇÖm scared. I use my active scanner to see if one of them tries to chase me. If they did I: Wait right at the edge of the corner, and as soon as the person rounds the corner (And I can expect when it will happen because of passive scanner), I blap that person. Then I go behind a different corner and wait for his buddy to show up, and kill him.
If they donGÇÖt: I give up and go away, I wonGÇÖt win in a straight up fight.
If both go after me and not just one: I go to another corner and hope they split up.
I had a lot of fun doing these maneuvers, using speed and sneakiness to get the upper hand. (Though even when I had it I got blapped sometimes, because scouts suck :( )
One match I had a really awesome expierence. The enemy was dug in deep, and my team couldn't advance. There was a cliff that circled around, and went behind enemy lines, but only scouts are fast enough to get through it, because it was inside the red zone.
I went through, hoping that I don't get stuck on anything, and with 1 second left I managed to get through.
From there, I quietly destroyed uplinks using my nova knives to make sure the enemy doesn't respawn. I avoided contact using my passive scanner.
Next, I picked off the long range people, some TAC AR, some lasers, some snipers, even a forge. For all I waited for some loud noise like an explosion to mask the shotgun blasts.
Next up, 4 people left, I waited around the corner for them to get wounded from my team mates and get back. One by one I killed them, and as such, the area was secured. :)
Later on, some snipers decided to be a-holes and snipe my team mates from the redline. I decided to suicide gank them, by going after them in the redline to keep my team mates safe.
I laughed at how oblivious they were, as I killed one, two, three. dead.
Respawned, went back, killed another three.
RespawnedGǪ I heard a forge gun. I decided to hunt him, and I found him. I went into the redline, and with 10 seconds left on the timer (not enough time to get back, this was a suicide run like the others), he turned around when I was 5m away, I shot once, twice, but he blapped me with his forge before I could get a third shot off.
I was pissed, and that was my last match for the day. And that is how my first day as a scout ended.
Overall I didn't do too bad. Died far more than I'm used to, and killed a lot less than I'm used to, but had a blast.
Shield regeneration bonus for Gallente Assault is about as useful as Sharpshooter for Nova Knives.
