As an eve capsulier I spent the time/isk to skill up and fit up for a Dust-514 ship that can try and survive 0.1 low sec space for extended periods of sitting in one place ... hook up voice with my dust corp and off to find some districts.
Reading eveonline faq's, forum posts, asking around all the chats ... all instruction/advice (no one gives a damn, is most of the advice) I am faced with no targeting radial I used to, nothing on probe, directional scan, All selected overview, no promised small explosion visuals on the surface ... nothing
Yes I right clicked the planet, no there was no district sub-menu, yes I double checked that the overview satellite, as well as a few other surface and orbital options were on (verified select all was on actually). No damn satellite, no warp to district, no nothing but a scary "planet view" that takes for ever (0.1 lowset forever) to switch to a pretty view, which blocks all your life saving pins etc.
After all this I note the eveonline faq's note that this pays the eve pilot NOTHING, no LP, no ISK, no nothing ... WTF (and everyone bitches/wonders why eve could not care less about this)?
So after bitching on here for long enough, can some one here tell me how to support my dust squad from the eve side and deliver a damn free to dust, expensive to me, orbital strike? |

An OB is expensive to you as a pilot?
It's been a while but i would say you can fit an ob destroyer for around 2-3mil.
I'm about 7 days in, the cloaking l1 skill book was 1mill, yes the 7 gun 1 cloak, 3 warp core stabilizer catalyst is only about 3mil, of which this new FW enlisted, lowsec living, PvP trying to learn to make a living newbie would not normally want to pursue, its a chunk (many learning tackle Atron's worth).
But that's beside the point ... really sorry for the frustration ... I still want to support my corp, could some one please help me know what I was doing wrong, why I could not find the satalite, etc. |

well I assume I get to press 7 buttons in my case ... if I could get hooked up that is .... pew, pew, pew, pew, pew, pew, pew.
well at least it was fun to say .... gee maybe I should drop that cloak and put one more pew in there?? |

Dravon,
Thank you for the kind reply and offer of help. I've also been watching the dev notes on the upcoming FW changes, which lead to some threads here on Factional/alliance run chat channels (which I believe will become popular/needful with proposed FW changes), I pretty much did an inny, meeiny, miny moe (along with my beloved Gallente Logi suite) and found a promising Alliance public chat. After finishing the tutorials, I quickly (maybe way too quickly) jumped into an eve side FW/PvP Corp/Alliance in the hopes that they would be willing to train up a newbie.
So, that being as it may, I may be a WT to you and if so would hope, that for the sake of the small fraction of eve players that care about dust, that we might be allied at least in this cause, i.e. of helping ccp/dust-514 succeed. I think many might agree, that the proposed FW changes, and further/deeper integration of dust/eve is critical to the long term survival of dust.
So I will take you up on your eve contact invite, but will also understand if this is a touchy situation.
Thanks again. |

Oh help, a million and one things to learn about eve ... thanks for sharing one of those I will now figure out how to do. On your module rack next to your capacitor, there should be an icon that looks like links in a chain. Clicking that should stack all like weapons together. Keep in mind that the weapons MUST be all identical and loaded with the same ammunition. When you launch an OB you only get one shot, and that means your weapons must be linked together otherwise only 1 gun will launch the OB. Because damage is directly based off of how many guns are firing, you want to make sure you have all of them launching that strike. Do you understand how OB ammo works for EVE? There are 3 types and they're all a little different from your usual War Barge Orbital.
I do have a bit of a handle on the guns/ammo, and have fitted small hybrid turrets with Hybrid Tactical S (10 rounds each, even though its cheap) |

Happy Violentime wrote: This was for a PC battle?? right?
Unfortunately (and yet I still want to support my corp in PC as well), Molden Heath is a hell of a lot of jumps away from where my daily PvP is going on. And it appears that the Dust FW battles (i.e. not public and not PC, but yes obitally supported) seem to be in the systems much closer to where the daily eve side FW battles are going on.
I started a couple threads (one here in war room and one dust forum on eve side) asking about jump clones to try and support MH battles, but got no responses with much of use.
So in answer to you're question, yes PC and yes FW - especially upcoming changes to dust side FW. |

Well I was more referring to the effect you want on the ground with each ammo type. If you already know this please forgive me:
Hybrid Strike: Similar Damage to War Barge OB but over a significantly larger area of effect. Generally the most common OB type ammo .
Laser Strike: Similar area of effect to War Barge OB, but significantly higher damage and fire rate. A direct hit from this will kill any HAV regardless of their defenses.
EMP Strike: Largest area of effect, wiping out all shields and deployed equipment. fairly certain you can't actually kill anyone with this strike, but it has some specific uses.
Yes, I do recognize the above information that I saw in the eveonline faq on orbitals (very end of that guide/article). I was feeling pretty good about life on this, since I had already skilled into hybrid turrets, and typically the strike the squads need/want the majority of the time. However, as you note, that laser strike is sometimes desired from the ground (take that damn tank out).
I'm assuming (and hoping) that third one might someday come into play with POS types of deals (maybe it already does? i.e. take out that PC districts clone/warehousing//transport factory)
I suppose what this really means is that important PC battles, or later, if any eve side rewards start becoming lucrative, two or three fitted ships ready to deliver their special kind of destruction will need to be orbiting those district satellites. |

Takahiro Kashuken wrote:So you want an orbital?
Get rid of free warbarge strikes
sorry, until you get something besides pure loyalty of an eve player to a dust corporation, that is not going to do diddly. Now have the surface battles have even a greater effect on eve side FW, and make dust side orbital support as lucrative, like say existing PvP "plexes" now, as a dust squad leader, you are going to be see 2 to 4 options of orbital strikes (i.e. the ammo types mentioned upthread)
You will have eve players seeking you out |

TEBOW BAGGINS wrote:eve pilots no longer care about mercside and vice versa. thank CCP for that. we're no longer under the delusion that we'll ever connect to eve in a meaningful way. we play dust simply in the hopes that our playstyle will compel someone to make a rage post here. orbitals were a prebeta hype up that had a remarkable effect on nearly everyone until a year into beta when everyone realized orbitals for what they really were- a marketing scheme.
Dust will die then, as just another fps (not up industry fps shooter standards, i.e. ps4 killzone).
with only about 3k regular dust players, verses 30k eve players at any given time, ccp may decide to let it die. If it is cost effective for them, or they feel it can still become cost effect, they will continue to integrate it with eve
