A players role is not defined by the suit he wears. Suits do not have defined roles, they have roles they can excel in, but are not strictly limited to what everyone thinks they should be. The suits in this game are only limited by the players creativity.
If I am going to use a scout suit, I am not going to just choose 1 of 2 different play styles that the community thinks they should only be viable in. A: sit back and snipe. Or B: run around with a Shotgun.
I would rather use and avd light frame , and fight on the front lines like an assault. Which I have done in the past with great success.
If i am going to use a heavy suit, I will not limit myself to only using heavy weapons. I would Mich rather slap a rifle, mass driver , or even a shot gun on one of these walls. I would use the HP, and the help of a logi to win impossible fire fights, rather then sit in some nook with and hmg, or camp a tower with a forge. I would rather be in the first offensive line instead of being the last resort to defending a NC.
IF I PLAY AS AN ASSAULT OR LOGI, THEN I WILL USE WHATEVER FIGHTING STYLE I SO CHOOSE.

The community hasn't defined anything since codex CCP stopped listening to them in Chromosome, hence uprising.. |

As the game grows, I'm fairly confident that CCP will improve suit bonuses to suit a particular role. If you choose to use that suit outside it's intended role, then you can do so, but you may not be as efficient.
Otherwise, good for you. You tell em! No one can define you! You're an individual, with feelings, and desires! |

I have recently skilled into Gallente Scout level 1 (so I can finally use my Valor suit after the long months it has spent in my warehouse!) and have been running it, successfully I might add, as a harassing suit: Standard SCR, Scanner, Dampener, Reactive Plate and Shield Extender. Run around, flank the enemy, slam a volley into them from a random angle then get the hell out of dodge.
I may not be shotgunning or sniping and neither am I running on the frontlines, but I'm doing it how I do it and it's working well so far. |

+1. This is one of the things i love about DUST. Absolutely cannot stand being jammed into some cookie cutter class. That kills the appeal of a game for me almost immediately.
I think class in DUST really comes down to how CCP writes the suit bonuses, and a player can choose to take advantage of all, some or none of those bonuses. Can make for some surprising and effective fits if you can use other players' preconceptions against them.
When CCP does get around to looking at suit/role bonuses, the community needs to be vocal about what we want and don't want, and provide CCP with a solid threadnought examining the alternatives.
Those dropsuit racial and role bonuses(even saying racial and role is an unwarranted assumption, imo) go a looong way towards defining what kind of game DUST will be.
I support SP rollover.

Concerning the Heavy Dropsuit, that's a very skewed way of thinking.
Would I like to do more then just Forge Gun at long range, or HMG in CQC? Of course. Yet CCP has failed to develop more then those two weapons since the game was launched.
Would i like to use a Light Weapon to achieve this desire? No. For I'm sacrificing speed and module/equipment slots for the sole purpose of being able to use Heavy Weapons and Heavy Grenades.
I can't play chess using different strategies if the only pieces i have available are pawns.
