Been playing since uprising. I was really expecting something great.
Made a character in beta, but due to lag, problems with the client, ect, I only played 4 or 5 games, and hated it. I remember lazers from across the map murdering me. I also bought the merc pack they had out.
I followed this since early december 2012 and was EXCITED. I knew of EvE, didn't play much but the whole idea of what EvE was sat well with me. I had already started a character with EvE but really got into it after hearing about Dust. I was like holy ****, PC and my PS3 communicating!
As a kid, I was heavy into RPGs. That is my baby, my genre. Started as a kid with my NES and zelda, then Ninja Turtles. Then we got our first computer when I was 12. This was before windows as we know it, this was MSDOS, the CLI. Maybe 8 megabytes of HD space, ram was in bytes, blah blah blah, old ass computer. So many old school RPGs were played on that thing. Biggest one that comes to mind is Darksun. LOVED IT, D&D game.
Then the PS came out, and I said to myself, "These graphics are incredible! It can't get better than this". I was simply in awe. But this is when I got a good introduction with Square Softs (now square enix) FF line, FF7. I had every value raised to the max, 99. My time played was also maxed at 99 hours. I would play this thing, ALL day long. Then ff8, ff9 ff10, and other RPG's rented from blockbuster (yeah they existed at one time didn't they).
So I like me some RPG's. But I also like me some RTS. Warcraft was one of my absolute favorite games, then warcraft 2, and warcraft 3 then good old WoW(mmoRpg).
Alas, as I grow older, 27 now, I find less and less time for games. And not just that, as I get older, games become stale and boring. Those old RPGs of the day that required a lot of my time, time I was able to give back then, to play are becoming less appealing. I already know what's going to happen, what needs to happen, and where I need to go, predictable. Hardly a challenge to my aging brain.
So I got into CoD modern warfare, loved it. Probably my first FPS ever. You know what I liked best about it, Player on Player. This wasn't another NPC, this was a living, breathing, thinking player. This was someone like me, so the kill always felt that much sweeter.
Dust 514, has pegged itself as a FPS / RPG. To me this is an amazing concept. I have spent many, many hours in the fitting screen. Sometimes I don't even play a game, just my fits and skills. Planning, theory crafting, and coming up with ideas on how to use new fits. That is one part of the RPG side. Dust still lacks in some actual RPG elements, as in actual gameplay RPG.
Just because you have character development and customization, does not mean you are a RPG. Character development and the deep customization are a huge part of it, but is still just that, a piece of the puzzle. Game play wise, this still plays like a FPS. If you want to actually interact with the world, you do it CoD style, shoot things. I can't tell you how boring this has become, shooters are a dime a dozen. There will always be a new shooter, that's not what makes you special.
For now, it reads like this, FPS first, RPG second. CoD may not have had character development, but it did have a healthy amount of customization.
I love what will become of FW, but I know it will still be the same kind of gameplay, shooting people. Reading about this game leading up to release ( a BETA release btw, who does that??) there were so many hopes and dreams. PvE, lots of customization and options. Then, as I get settled into the game, I see all of what you hyped up on was absent. It was worse as I noticed racial variants of things were missing. Then I discovered the divide between Armor tanks and Shield tanks, and found I had picked the gimped one (shield tanks). PC was always a big one for me too, whoo lets take control of something. Then I find lag plays a bigger part of the win then actually playing (sometimes).
I've been here for every patch since uprising, and really haven't been too impressed. I know some people will cry with joy when you give them that tiny tidbit, but to me it seems like so little. I know that these things take time, but man thats all you got done in a month with some of the patches. Maybe my expectations are a little high, but you made EvE. EvE has never been hugely popular, but holy ****. The game is like a ******* simulator. Spot on and well built.
For being the people that brought EvE into this world, I did have higher expectations. After seeing Dust 514 though I do begin wonder, how? SO much potential, so much hype, and not a bit of it has been realized. Most of your year has been fixing BUGS and Imbalance issues. 1.7 with your revamping of vehicles will bring in even more Bugs and Imbalance issues. A revolving door, and we are stuck in it.
Love the game, Love the idea. **** the bugs, **** your monthly patches. I always liked Blizzard entertainments motto. They followed it with all of their hits, WC1 WC2 WC3, WoW, SC1, SC2. **** the deadline, if it isn't done it doesn't go out. They never released piece meal bullshit. You don't need any deadlines, forget the players, investors, and other general assholes like me. If 1.7 isn't ready as you like, then you push that ***** back, and keep pushing it until it's done.
I think of this game like original fallout, 1 and 2. They were both pressured by deadlines, and actually released unfinished games, and the game remained that way. Man, do I hate me some unfinished, unpolished products. Lol
Seriously though, Love You CCP. 5 more years and you should have this thing nipped in the butt huh

I appreciate that a lot of Eve players are excited about the idea of the universe expanding and want to be a part of it, but the whole idea of spinning off a new aspect of it is to bring in people who are not already catered for by that original experience. Dust will always be an FPS, and most people here also understand that the genre casts a wide net: From twitchy mindlessness like COD, to more cerebral team based experiences such as SOCOM and MAG. I think most people here are very much hoping for the latter.
Funny thing is, EvE is cool and all, but far too boring. I'm a dust fan all the way. It has just been a let down playing as I progress. On the outside, it looks awesome. Shooter gameplay, with RPG style character development and customization.
After playing the 3 game modes, factional and skirmish being the same currently, for months on end, you tire of it. It's a grind just to be competitive, which is based on WP. But there are far too many actions that should get WP but don't. So you do the same thing, non stop. I don't typically mind the monotony but this is getting very old.
It is CONTENT, that this game needs. Something fresh, something new to do.
