The saturation of the market with infinite 'two words mashed together' items that have no perceivable long term value is going to kill the paid element as people become more experienced with the game. I'm convinced the main reason they sell any at all right now is by confusing the average player into thinking it's necessary.
The endless AUR variants in the marketplace diminish the idea of paying for anything exclusive or unique, and the whole premise of them is basically an admission that you didn't have the foresight/patience to win the metagame of staying ISK efficient and distributing skill points wisely.
I would suggest that they stop carpet bombing the game with barely thought-out replicas of everything in the game and roll the system into a dual-purchase strategy for all existing ISK items. As a bonus this would instantly clean up the ridiculous marketplace duplication clutter.
After that, rethink a way to make Aurum relevant in a way that's going to capture the players in a positive way, rather than making them feel back-of-the-brain bad for shelling out to momentarily subvert the grind ladder in a game that doesn't even know what it wants to be yet. |

While you're quite right about the troubled development of Dust, outside of that it just sounds like you're an Eve player at heart. I appreciate that a lot of Eve players are excited about the idea of the universe expanding and want to be a part of it, but the whole idea of spinning off a new aspect of it is to bring in people who are not already catered for by that original experience.
Dust will always be an FPS, and most people here also understand that the genre casts a wide net: From twitchy mindlessness like COD, to more cerebral team based experiences such as SOCOM and MAG.
I think most people here are very much hoping for the latter. |

calvin b wrote:The problem with dust is CCP has put to much EVE mentality into Dust. In a game like Dust we want content and a way to earn items without the ever grueling grind. I should not have to grind millions of SP just to skill into a suit that might be nerfed a month later. I should not have to grind for months to just raise my base stats to just be able to survive for another 1-2 seconds. I should not have to grind for months to max out my stats in CPU/PG and still not be able to place all the gear I need on my suit. If I am running advance I should be able to use all advance items on the suit same as proto. Challenge I dare someone to be able to put all Complex and proto items on a proto assault suit and show a working model. You cant due to lack of CPU/PG and you have to choose were to sacrifice.
The problem is not with 'the grind' per se, it's that the skill paths we're offered as goals to strive for are liquid, and change in value dramatically as new patches tear up the rules of the previous versions. The only thing that's remained a steady constant is the same thing causing most of the game's upset, the ever-present AR tree.
(You can probably lose the second half of your paragraph because it gets a bit I WANT ALL OF THE THINGS ALL THE TIME.) |
