I actually know several 'whales'. Specifically players that spent hundreds of (random country) units of real world cash. And, yes they spent it on DUST, so don't get snarky with me.
It was a revelation even though I have spent $60US on DUST myself (three Merc Packs). I felt like it was a reasonable enough price and I wanted to support CCP and their efforts down here in the DUST. My friends spent significantly more than I did, however.
I have managed to contact most of them over the last week or two. They are trashing their characters and the quote that stuck with me was, 'this is the last time I will log in to DUST'. I have one that is not completely out but he really doesn't like the game and only checks in now and then. He is going to see how 1.7 turns out, if it is bad he is done with DUST as well.
The consistent replies I have gotten when I asked them what happened was they all thought DUST had fantastic potential. Chromosome was a great game and then Uprising was such a horrible product it didn't deserve to use the same name as the BETA. Most have moved to BF4, GTA-V/Online and they aren't coming back.
Chromosome was something great for those that missed it. It needed much more work yet there was consistent hope for the future. Personally Uprising no longer shows much promise at all and it has been mostly one batch of fumbles after the other. Some were not planned admittedly, but the bug list is horrific and I seriously wonder if any of the Devs are actually either FPS or RPG players. Because DUST doesn't play like they know what those genres are.
Matchmaking has never progressed, while supposedly it was going to be a cornerstone of the release. Oops, looks like they missed it altogether 'cause DUST has no matchmaking at all. Just stick the first Mercs that all want to fight the same type of battle. As little as 1/0 and maybe even 16/16. No limits on any equipment, SP level or whatever, just dodge them Proto rounds or die.
KB/M support was one reason given, consoles are controllers driven and many don't like the lack of balance. This was even mentioned by Devs that KB/M would be selectable in the matchmaking. Right. No problem, man.
The rest say nearly the same phrases: Boring, graphics are nice but the game doesn't work, guns change so fast no one knows if they will work week to week, hate discovering another Ninja Nerf and finally the lack of any resetting of SP when they drastically change the functionality of a weapon Skill that cost millions of SP.
The EVE crowd had high hopes but DUST wound up on PS3 and several I know only bought one to play DUST. There is hope for them as the Exec Producer recently stated in an interview that there was no piece of paper keeping DUST anywhere. So PC, PS4 or whatever is a possibility. Hopefully the game will be working before they start to port it.
Now we have a real free too play game. It has the worst grinding of any game I have ever played. As far as I can tell the SP levels are based on EVE which has a completely different SP solution with the result being the eternal grinding that DUST has become.
Many are playing Pub matches with Proto gear and it gets tiresome to many. I understand both sides so it is difficult for me to defend either position. On one hand this character has Proto skills for four weapons. Just goofing around I can make 1-2M ISK profit per evening. So why wouldn't I use Proto gear when I want to? Yet, getting killed by a Duv AR will get a ton of complaints in squad. Then I point out that I am running one as well. Well, it can get quiet quickly on the squad chat.
Of course I remember when getting killed by a GEK ticked off quite a few Mercs. Now it is the Duv AR. For me it is the scrambler rifles and the re-emergent laser rifles. 1400 hp and my heavy drops in seconds. But that is a different issue.
Why did I bring all this rambling up? Well, my alt has 8.6M SP and my test character that is waiting for the pilot drop suit to be released has been ticking over passive SP has ... 7M SP. So why am I running my alt? Truthfully, I no longer know. I have ground the hell out of him and for what? 1.6M SP over a passive only character. It might be time to let him rest until the player's market opens and I can sell the stacks of collected salvage.
Oh well. They are still my friends I met in DUST and that is a good thing. Even if they don't play DUST anymore.
Welcome to DUST.

Spectral Clone wrote:Also, if any of the guys leaving want to donate their accounts to a good cause, please contact me here on the forums, or by ingame mail. Yo Dorkness!
You cannot transfer accounts. They are yours forever. With the obvious EVE inspired farming of accounts taken into account (ha-ha) all of these have accounts on their personal PSN account. Which means giving that account to someone else gives them access to everything.
A separate PSN account with one character is farmable in DUST and on PSN. Your own is not. At least only a fool would consider it. |

Spectral Clone wrote:Please dude, we KB/M users cant even turn off mouse acceleration, and we have to live with high input lag due to the emulation. Just the messenger, here Dudeness.
I have used a KB to type in text and have tried KB/M. The mouse worked great when the small rail gun turret was worth using. The head shot with a small rail gun was very possible with a good mouse. I am not a consistent KB/M user though, I even use a controller whenever possible on my Steam games.
I don't like the break in the game mechanics that KB/M causes for me. WASD is a dumb solution in particular if you have trouble with a finger or two. As the Keyboard mapping we were supposed to get turned out to be allowing a CoD setup for controllers I have stopped using either of them. I could try them again if I could change the button/key bindings as is common in PC games. |

Takahiro Kashuken wrote:So they have a passive alt on 7mil SP, another alt on 8.6mil SP
So what is there main at? Sorry if I was not clear. That player is myself. My alt is Thranx1231: Heavy, Assault, HAV Gunner with 8.6M SP.
I have another PSN account that I created sometime back (don't recall when now) that was supposed to be a Pilot and use the early released Pilot Drop Suit Skill tree. It was very expensive for SP so I started that character with the intent that it would only be a pilot. However, the pilot suit has yet to be released and thus the SP for it is unknown. So it is just sitting there waiting.
7M SP is not going to be enough for that character as I have 6.5M SP in armor tanks alone and will need to double that at the very least without adding in the pilot drop suit. |

Snaps Tremor wrote:Tebu Gan wrote:the biggest post While you're quite right about the troubled development of Dust, outside of that it just sounds like you're an Eve player at heart. Excuse me? If you have seen Any posts from me that contain EVE it is obvious I hate that game and 99.999% of its players. I hated it before DUST and only because of playing here I have finally found a few EVE players that are likeable nice people. Every other person I ever knew that played or wrote about EVE were horrible examples of something less than humanity.
Is that clear enough for you?
I am an RPG player that does some FPS (Borderland level no CoD or BF(1-N). The tied in to EVE as an MMO with the RPG/FPS is what got me interested. The failure to deliver what was promised or to even come close the to great potential of the game is what is driving my friends away. I am still here. Quite grumpy, admittedly, but here.
For all its greatness MAG is dead, or will be when SONY finally kills the servers in Jan/2014. I never played it. |

Reav Hannari wrote:What counts as a whale? Between my son and myself I think I'm at about $260. I've used up my Elite Pack and it's about time to buy new boosters. I just added money to my SOE account but I haven't pulled the trigger. I may go without until 1.7 drops and then see if I'm disappointed or not. My son has already moved on. Whale. Definitely.
A normal game cost $60. It might require monthly access Xbox Live $5/month (and PS4 soon as well). Spending four times what you would on a non-Free game must surely count as a whale.
Sorry to hear about your son already having moved on. 1.7 will be the make or break for me as well. |

Mouse input is crippled in Dust so badly anyone complaining about it is hating just to hate. There is no missing clue, Zyrus.
You just have different opinions than some of my friends is all. Clues are not required when all the data is in.
They don't like the imbalance that KB/M gives over controller players. It is well known and documented extensively. Aim Assist has helped but it makes the game less fun.
And KB/M players have a very well stated opinion regarding CCP ganking their mice. All true. However, if you don't like to play against controllers because they can easily kill you then you have the right to that opinion. Just as they do because they fell that KB/M players have a distinct advantage over them.
Just the way it is. |
