That worries me because it touches on the common sense of the people who are building this game. There are 80M PS3's out there because the PS4 has not yet been released. The PS4 is debuting at only $399...that is less than new model cellphones when they hit the market. Why does CCP think that people won't buy the PS4? How many people still play on their PS2's??
The PS3 is going to be a dead system in a matter of months and CCP has a few years plan on it? That worries me because how do they not see that pushing for the PS3 is a fail idea? As much as I enjoy dust.....no way will I be unhooking my PS4 and then hooking up my PS3 for a pc match or to cap each week. I won't be getting the PS4 at launch but it won't be too long after that. I'm not going to be going through that trouble of switching systems just to log onto dust. I already have too much congestion with my pc, ps3, Hauppauge, cell phone charger, internet router, etc. I have to use two extension cords......something will give.
This topic has been raging since last year.
The official answer of "focused on the PS3" has to do with timing. They won't ever say this, but:
They are trying to grab recruits from the legions of people who don't upgrade to the PS4 in the first year. Most of the major houses are focusing new development on the PS4, which is good for Sony, but not good for companies that don't have EA's advertising budget.
Then, once the PS4 is a well-established platform, with say 20M users, CCP can very quickly change their development path to support it. Most of the assets are portable and the game is built in an engine that supports both platforms.
So, to summarize- CCP isn't dissing the PS4. They're quietly letting people know that they can spend a lot less money by sticking with the PS3 (and buying Aurum) and still enjoy Dust until the preponderance of users makes it cost-effective to switch.
