I know how many times its been suggested, and I know its supposedly coming eventually. I also know how things get pushed back, so.... I'm suggesting vehicle locks again.
Today I see a blueberry against 3 reds, so I swing my LAV near by for cover, then hop out to help him mow down the reds. Next thing I know I hear my LAVs engine rev up and by the time my fat ass turns around he's 100 meters away in my brand new 206,000 ISK LAV. I can only stand firing at it in vein as I am mowed down in my back.
The worst part is that it happens frequently. It used to be once or twice a week. Then it became daily, now multiple times per day. Some people don't know, and some enjoy it. Either way, the best I can do is to send them a hate mail after, although this probably makes most of them lol.
My suggestion: I should be the only one holding the keys to my lav, and that should be automatic. If I get out of the vehicle, then the keys come with me. I should have to give explicit permission for otherwise. This should be constant for the entire match, unless it gets hacked. If it's hacked, all bets are off, no more owner, anybody can drive it. The owner should lose it from his inventory. And the only way for him to get it back, is to recall it. If a blueberry wants to sit in my passenger or gunner seat, that should be allowed. I think squads should somehow get priority and kick a blueberry off.
And a message to all blueberries: I realize that 90% of you are good people and wouldn't intentionally steal my stuff. But it's that 10% that do that make me seem like an a*s. For that I'm sorry. I won't pick you up if I can help it, even if you are stranded and about to die. I've left many clones that could have been saved. If you manage to get into my vehicle and you remain for too long, then there is a risk that I will team kill you. I may park in harms way, or crash into another LAV, which always seems to kill my passengers. I'm sorry for this as well, but it's that 10% of you that are unpredictable that cause me to be this way. I promise you I'm actually a nice guy, and if you ask on com for a lift or ride along, I'm happy to oblige. So far, nobody on com has stolen an LAV from me.
If CCP will give me ownership of my vehicle, I promise to be more of a team player than a team hater. Anybody can have a ride. I hope CCP will realize that this is important and will work on implementing it.
There is already ownership in place for 5 seconds after the vehicle is called in, but only if you are in a squad, I believe. This should be extended indefinitely until it is hacked. And it shouldn't matter if you are in a squad or solo.
It would be nice to set permissions on a vehicle to be either: owner, squad, or team. so that we can choose the people that are allowed to drive it. passengers should be open, but squad should get priority. |

The key thing here is that you can do something about it. With FF off, you are powerless to retaliate. If FF on, you can just shoot the guy that's trying to hack your tank.
Besides, if your own PC corp mates are stealing your tanks from you, then you're in the wrong corp.
As for the upcoming FW changes, it would just be a matter of friendly hacks causing some sort of standing loss.
I get what you're saying, and it makes sense. But like you pointed out, I think it's a pretty rare situation where it would matter. I would have probably made my vehicle "open to team" if it was my own corp. I'm not sure what FW changes you're referring to though.
I'd rather keep it simple for now and just get the locks out there. I'm not sure why it's been delayed so long but it makes me wonder if they have some complex plan for them. |
