Any pilot that runs a hybrid tank is ridiculed until they comply with the EVE rule that 'thou shalt not hybrid tank.' In the early days of my merc career I tried to follow this same rule but many of my suits now mix armor and shields. Despite being common I don't believe super brick tanking gives you much of an edge so many of my suits are 500 HP or less and I can still place in the top 3 of a match.
I have my armor tanking skills maxed but I'm considering skilling up rechargers and regulators so I can run pure shield tanking with fast recovery. Is anybody running that type of defense or does every one have a basic plate too? I'll probably change my armor heavy fits and replace shields with damage modules. I run all types of Minmatar suits and the Logistics is particularly adept at handling both tanking types.
I guess I'm mostly curious at regulator use. Anybody using them?

Surviving that extra half second is why I don't bother with brick tanking. If you are out of cover you are just dead. Maybe I'm just a little better about leveraging cover than the average blueberry but I feel my low profile fits survive longer since I'm never on their TACNET unless they are looking right at me.
I'm always experimenting though which is why I was considering regulators.

If EHP is so important then why do I generally win against heavies when I have close encounters with them while in my militia fit Dren Logi or advanced Minmatar Scout? The current wisdom is EHP > everything. I guess I'm not a wise man because I only have one bricked suit and I rarely use it.

Shields are better for those who only ever take on opponents on their own terms; you take someone down, with minimal health loss, and move on to the next in seconds, back to full health. Too many people pick shields for the convenience, only to use them in scenarios where armor is preferable.
I rarely run with the pack. Maybe that's why I haven't seen the benefit of the super tank.

Weapons were balanced when hit detection was in bad shape. They have done several passes to correct this problem and added typical FPS aim adhesion to several of the hit scan weapons.

After analyzing the numbers and comparing full shield Caldari to the do-what-you-want Minmatar, which is what I run, I've decided to train into rechargers next but continue to run a hybrid tank. The Minmatar Logistics seems to work best with some shield, a damage module, some armor and still have a little room for mission specific extras in the low. I'll see how bumping up the shield recharge by 46% helps with recovering from an encounter. Combine that with at least 8.2 HP/second of armor repair and I should be in fighting shape faster than most other suits if I survive the encounter.
The scout looks very interesting running one recharger and one regulator but it probably doesn't have the CPU and PG to handle it along with a profile dampener. I'll have to play around it and see.
